I was originally excited for this film. Hellboy vs Mythical creatures? Alright! That's the Hellboy I wanted to see. Not that I didn't like the first one. I just like the mythology side of HB a little more then the squid gods side.
Now after reading that article I want to go and build a Delorean and leap forward a year just so I can own this movie on DVD! This movie sounds incredible. Especially the Wink spoiler bit.
After Pan I'm looking forward to seeing more of Del Torro's creepy creature creations. Sounds like I won't be dissapointed!

I can honestly say that most of what is mentioned in those articles will probably be in the trailer. Does that help? :D

Helen and Valaria are also visiting the HB2 set. Helen's latest report:
HOLA!!!!!!!!
HM and Valaria calling in!!!
Well ... yesterday on the set of HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY.
We can but give a glimpse at present, there will be a MUCH fuller report later.
The morning began at 8am, with us being picked up after meeting with Doug by his adorable driver Gabor. We drove outside Budapest to the location shoot, which is, I CAN say, typically GdT - underground. We set up base camp in Dougie's trailer, next to Guillermo's, (Ron's is behind them both next to Anna's), then had a quick bite to eat before spending the next few hours watching Doug get made up by Simon Webber and Thom Floutz of Spectral Motion - just head and neck this time, with Doug being in goggles and respirator and his new, sexy leather pants and boots. And yes, Kusanivy, I asked them questions for you - they were delighted to hear you were interested. Simon also wanted to know if you were cute!
Once Doug was settled, we had breakfast at 1pm and headed down to the set, leaving Doug to snooze until his call.
So ... the set. we wandered down a chiselled out roadway into the depths of the earth, through craft service and tons of extras, and entered the dark, labyrinthine eerie world of ... The Troll Market. This is some set, I can tell ya. There are lots more goodies to come in the film, believe me, but this made me gasp. We wandered around for a bit, accompanied by John 'Johann' Alexander and Angie his wife. John was awaiting his call for a scene later on in the day with Doug, so wasn't in his Johann guise - but I can tell you now, the design is impressive.
I can't even begin to describe the set and its denizens, other than this is pure Del Toro - a strange and magical world populated by myriad creatures and beings only Guillermo could dream up. Brian Steele was on set, and we were introduced to his character - Wink - by GdT. This massive critter belied his terrifying appearance by waving at us cheerily. Brit Brian Herring is the Fish Vendor and Jamie Wilson is the Cat Vendor - both lovely LOVELY guys under lots of latex.
Ron was on set with his two stunt doubles, and seeing three Hellboys watching the playback screen was as creepy as all get out. Still, Ron fed Pat chocolate.
Lunch at 6:30pm, then back to the set to see some more action, of which there is a LOT. The set is dank and damp, and everyone has been affected by what has been dubbed 'Cave Cough.' GdT and Senor Navarro were both well into the fray, and the lighting and atmosphere on even the playbacks is gorgeous.
We wrapped at 11:30pm - poor Doug never got called, so had to get out of makeup and was back on set today for his scene with John. Got back to the hotel at 1:00am, and fell into bed. Oh, and we made friends with Ron's dog, Nigel.
We're waiting to hear from Dougie late tonight about our call time tomorrow, as the shoots are getting into night-shift mode. Sorry there's not more, but we'll have LOTS more to say when we get back - with pictures!
Cheery Bye for Now from VERY sunny Budapest,

Love all the reports!
By the way, the guy who works with film companies here told me that (as Universal told to him) the official name of the new Hellboy movie will be HBII and not "Hellboy II: Golden Army". They moved it from August 2008 to July (it changed places with "Mummy" sequel) and it will be out in Europe in September.

September? It will be perfect!!!! But, please, no spoiler about the film before we can see it here...I'm a curios creature....:p

I'm a little skeptical about a name change to HBII. Sure, I prefer the minimalism, but there's absolutely no brand-name recognition in the title. That's why I think your friend might be misinformed.
Still, I suppose they could go the TMNT route. If this movie is that much grander than the first, maybe it would be different enough to merit the name change and possibly gain a larger audience in the process, an audience that might've dismissed the movie based on opinions of the first Hellboy had "Hellboy" stayed in the title. Then again, I know many a casual viewer who says "Oh yeah, I loved that movie" when they hear "Hellboy," and to change the title to HBII might risk losing all those people.
What do you guys think? In a world where everyone knows it's a Hellboy film, I'd love the name HBII... Hmm. Maybe it wouldn't be an issue, since the marketing and such will make it abundantly clear it's a Hellboy sequel.

I think HBII would stink. I tend to associate bad movies with the letter number combo. Examples: H20, MI3, X3 (X2 being the rare good film).
They should go the Pirates route and just bill it as an entirely different movie (though Pirates was a sequel). Hellboy: The Golden Army. An all new Hellboy adventure. Bam.

I tend to agree with you Bellygrub.

I have some friends who are catholic, and tell there kids they are not allowed to say the word Hell.( no discussing hellboy in front of parents and preist). I can just imagine them saying, "so have you seen the new HB11", and parents saying "what the Hell".:D

Mmm. I forgot the tiny uproar that the name brought about last time. I know one theatre in my area changed the name to Heckboy because they didn't want Hellboy next to The Passion of the Christ on the marquee.
I got it! Let's just go with B.P.R.D! Then everyone is happy. :D

I like Hellboy11 I just have to be carefull when I asked the kids "so did anyone see the new Hellboy11 ". The last time I mentioned it to them they said "yeh", then I asked "what was your favorite part" (total silence).:D

I remember they came out at the time because Passion came in first on weekend gross and right under it was Hellboy.
Calling it HBII seems a little too generic and every time I see HB my first thought is "Hollowbody" in reference to guitars.

It's also quite possible that Ivar was just abbreviating Hellboy II as HBII.

I'm all for elimentating the "2" and retaining the pulpy titles of the comic, plus, it will have been over 4 years since the first film and the numeric titles always screamed "cash in" to me. By having it be the more respectable "Hellboy; The Golden Army" it may add an air of legitimacy to the film in the eyes of the public.
...does that make any sense?
Oh, and the trailer should open with; "From the creator of Pan's Labyrinth, based on the works of Mike Mignola" ... merely because it's the most awesome and true statement any film can make.
:D

"From the creator of Pan's Labyrinth, based on the works of Mike Mignola, and endorsed by Kirk."
Works for me.
I agree that they should drop the "2" bit. I never could undertstand it. Seemed like the creators were completely devoid of any originality or imagination so they slapped a number at the end. I don't recall "Empire Strikes Back" being billed as "Star Wars 2!"

***SPOILERS, KINDA ***
As far as I'm aware, it's still Hellboy II: The Golden Army, and I can assure you that all they have said in the reviews is true - and there's a whole lot more. I was watching filming on the New York set a couple of nights ago and spent a moment or two with GdT, marvelling over the set. He just twinkled merrily from behind those glasses of his and said he was squeezing a $200 million dollar movie out of a budget of less than half that.
BTW, I would agree on the Angel of Death set - downright creepifyin.' And I just have to say that the creature that is this film's 'Pale Man' is The Angel. An astonishing design by Norman Cabrerra that will knock your collective socks off.
Oh, and just to keep you assured that all things GdT are in this film, there are things that whirr and click and revolve, and also some icky stuff in jars.
I will be reporting on Dougie's blog sometime this coming week.

I really don't know what will be the name of the next Hellboy movie... But I asked about it again today before Rendition screening. He (person responsible for planning releases here) looked around in his mailbox and found this.
From an e-mail, directly from Universal, July 28th:
HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY is now titled HB II and the U.S. release date moves from August 1, 2008 to July 11, 2008.
So it looks like there IS someone planning the name change. Or WAS planning it...
