Does Alex Ross have like...three different covers in his repetoire. It's either heroes in a row, heroes standing in a line, or hero standing solo in light

Yeah, but damn if they don't look heroic and good.

Yeah sometimes it seems that way, but he showed us a lot more cover ideas on Justice over the past 2 years.

It's probably the only three poses he can get his models to do.

Is it just me or are some of the other JSaers not looking to happy as they look at Superman and Cyclone togther?

I kinda got that impression too. Why does it look like she's going goo-goo all over KC Supes? I could be looking at it wrong, she could just be in absolute awe of him. I dunno.

Would it be wrong for someone to idealize another person.
And then again, what if she loves him, or has a crush. Doesn't mean he does, and if he does, well, I dunno the age that girl "has" to be. But, who cares, it's a comic book. It is not real. At all.

I am so sick and tired of the Ross covers already. At the very least, couldn't DC give us Dale's variants at a 1:1 ratio? My shop is small. They only order enough issues to fill their pull lists, +3 for the rack, so they charge a premium for the alternates. So far I've dropped $20 more on this series than I normally would because I didn't want that abhorrent PG cover last month, while I did want the Hawkman cover to issue #2.
I realize Ross has his fair share of fans, but I'm certainly not one of them. I hope once this Kingdom Come story finishes, he moves along and we get some more dynamic, comic book-looking covers again for the defaults.

Agreed. Plus he's not nice at all.
Ross-butt-kissers are like drug addicts. They can't get enough, enough is never enough and more is always welcome. No matter how it looks, how it's drawn, painted or built and the same colors he's inyected everyone with.
Sometimes you can see his face everywhere in the illustrations. Narcissus looking at his reflection on the water? Or it's always his ugly friends in uncomfortable poses.
I am not including his father in my position, you have to respect family.

You keep wishing then "homie".
Let's give those 20 years to Superman then, you try that.
Cause it's so really happening.
So morbid, Ross caught your eye huh?

I like the man's art, but I kiss nobody's ass. I do think he is being stretched too thin now, is art was better back in the KC days, but now he's got Justice pages and covers to crank out that it made his art look watered down. Maybe now that Justice is over he can get back to his best art.
I do wish he'd stop making Powergirl look like Ms. Mann though.
I don't blame Ross, I blame the subject. Superheroes. OF course, he and probably his employer, wants him to make them look Iconic, Strong, Proud. If he wants to paint something differently, he should make non-superhero art. Can you blame a person for supposedly using their best that sells? I admit, I don't know if he can do anything else, but if possible...

I would just like to say as an artist myself... Alex Ross is an incredible artist.
... And his over exposure of comic book covers is so great that I wish the man would choke on something and die.
I'm sorry Mr. Ross, you've got marvelous talent, but you're as common as wolverine is in marvel's super hero teams these days; I'm sick of you.

Why is Cyclone holding on to Superman at all? I thought she could fly. That's really weird, and I hope there's an explanation in the book. Doubt there will be though.

I always thought he used Markie Post as his model for Power Girl.

I'm really pretty tired of Alex Ross in general. If I wanted to see real people dressed in home-made superhero costumes, I'd go to a convention.

Think I read somewhere that he initially based his take on Powergirl off the American Gladiator (remember that show? Assault ruled!) named Zap.

I really like Alex Ross artwork, but I am getting tired of lifeless poster covers. How about some action, something to get readers excited about buying each issue?
Look at Aquaman... laughing stock of comic books these days. Even Kurt Busiek couldn't rescue him from low sales. But if Aquaman consistently had covers like this Nick Cardy classic, sales would be higher:

In my opinion, Ross is nowhere near as talented as Cardy.

That cover, of course, from a time when the covers were particularly striking and eye-catching, and the book was nonetheless sinking in sales, headed for its first cancellation.
So it doesn't seem to have helped sales back then, when impulse purchases accounted for a higher proportion of sales.
Sure were purty, though.

I'm a big Alex Ross fan, but I'd buy JSA with or without his covers, because I love Stargirl.
Are all the Alex Ross covers, dynamic or not, helping JSA sales?
And on a side note, I think it would be really cool if JSA could have covers that looked like old school Golden Age covers. I don't mean a dated art style, but that dynamic, in your face logos, big exciting captions and stuff like that. I doubt it would help sales or whatnot, but I'm just a fanboy and I know what I like.
EDIT:
Hmmmm... could KC Superman and Cyclone doubledate with Captain Marvel and Stargirl?
I find it interesting that Ross is hanging in there with traditional media.
There are lots of kids pulling off similar stuff with their wacom tablets these days...

This is about standard for Ross' covers. A pretty painting without much excitement.
I don't really blame Ross for these covers though. Most comic covers these days are incredibly boring (the publishers would say "iconic") and tell you absolutely nothing about the issue itself.

The Green Lantern covers have all been pretty dynamic, and I'm really enjoying them.
That being said, I've always been a fan of Alex Ross. Sometimes I was a cover with some butt kicking on it. Sometimes I want something suitable of a frame. I bought the full JSA poster he did(cover of JSA #1) and I love it.

It seems like a cool idea, but it's hard to forget that preview page where Kingdom Come superman stands alongside the other evil supermen.

- I love marvel and I love DC. But I gotta say, you guys b1tching about the Ross covers is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. I don't care if you like to make art, took art appreciation in college, or are an artist with a PHD.
- His work is incredible, I have seen it up close and personal and it is quite possibly the closest comic art to an actual photograph I have ever seen.
- Don't like the dose of realism? That is fine, but if you were to see Superman in real life, this is about as close as you are going to get...
If you guys don't want him, please let him know, so he can come back to Marvel...

Ummm... what?
I think everyone who doesn't care for Ross's covers mentioned very reasonable reasons for not liking them. Being photorealistic in itself is not a pure virtue in the world of comic book covers.

Also, Ross is a great artist, but sometimes I just want something different.

I really appreciate the Alex Ross artwork. But if it's so realistic, why is it also so lifeless and still?
