Jim Shooter boards “Supergirl and Legion of Superheroes” as the book’s new writer just in time for the team to celebrate its 50th anniversary, more than 30 years after his last run on the title.

The Legion is in good hands. Big Jim is back in the driver's seat of one of my very very favorite groups. Another one of my very favorite runs on any book was his Solar Man of the Atom over at Valiant back in the 1990's, as well as my # 2 favorite crossover story ever, Unity, also at Valiant.

Manapul's art does really look good too.

I'm very hopeful for the Legion's 50th anniversary upcoming and can't wait to see what this big story is. Hopefully he'll stay on the title and I love how he wants this to be THE title at DC. It was one of the big two titles back in the 80's and there's absolutely no reason why it can't be again.

Yay !

I hope his presence brings back readers who for whatever reason didn't like Waid's take, keeps those who did, and makes other people curious about the title. The Legion is a great concept with some of the best characters DC ever created, and an oasis from all the crossover/crisis crap going on in the rest of the DCU.

I like everything he says about bringing back the Academy, Night Girl, the 50th anniversary plans, etc., but I'm hoping it doesn't get too old school in his hands. Geoff Johns has an old school nostalgia Legion coming in his next Action arc, I don't want two Legions of similar stripe in the same universe. Keep your Legion modern and fresh, Mr. Shooter, don't take away their edge, and don't grow them up too quickly. Let Francis Manapul's imagination run wild.

That done, I will be very happy.

I have never been more excited about a comic book than I am now about the LoSH with Shooter and Manapul as the creative team!!! My only gripe is that it seems that the book is still being called Supergirl and the Legion of Super Heroes and I don't like Kara being on the team..I like her character but she's on the TT now so why does she have to be on the Legion as well. I think the title should go back to LoSH and Kara should stay in the 20th Century...that would make me even happier...if that is possible!

I love what Francis did with Brainy...I like the slicked back hair and the shirt/jacket thingie he is wearing.

When does issue 37 come out?

It's solicited for December 26th, eggie.

Shooter did say previously that Supergirl would be gone from the book.

And the December solicits title it "Legion of Superheroes', no 'Supergirl and...' - yet in this interview, Shooter refers to it as 'Supergirl and the Legion'.

Wonder what's going on.

I can not wait for December! I really think this is going to be a great run. Shooter just "gets" the Legion, and I think he will be able to keep an oldschool feel while still giving it a modern twist which I think is what alot of Legion fans have been missing.

Waid just got to far away from what made the Legion the Legion in his run. He was more concerned with getting out his message with the book than really telling stories about the Legion of Super Heroes. You could take his run and insert new characters and it would not really read that different. I think with Shooter it is actully going to feel like you are reading The Legion of Super Heroes even though he is using the same team created by Waid.

As for the art it looks fanflippingtastic. Manapul has a style that looks like it will be a great match for the Legion. I really think he is going to be great on this book. I just hope they get him signed on for a good number of issues before Marvel tries to steal him away.

I wanted to like Waid's stuff, and some of his ideas were really creative. But it seemed there was far too much stuff that seemed like it was all set-up, no pay-off. I'm wary of a 16-issue first arc. If stuff happens that leads to more than just Cosmic Boy making a passionate speech and the revelation of still MORE black ops in the background, then I'll be happy.

Y'know, I've never understood the appeal of wanting previous writers to come back to a comic they once wrote. I always hear the example of people wanting Peter David to do another run on Hulk. And while it would probably be good, I think it's a good thing to let new writers take on classic characters (like Greg Pak and the "Planet Hulk" story). I think it's good for comics, as a whole, to let new talent explore DC's and Marvel's characters.

Having said all that, I'm looking forward to Shooter's new Legion stories. His description has me very excited. It sounds fun and epic and should really inject some excitement into the Legion franchise.

And I like his attitude about coming back to Legion. He's not going to relive his previous work, he's going to move the characters forward and explore new areas of Legion mythology. Excellent!

Wasn't there another updated image of Manapul image that wasn't used in this article.

Ya know the changes to Element Lad costume(from red and yellow to Green and White), Saturn Girl's(red changed to pink), Collossal Boy padding changed from Brown to Blue.

Quote from Francis Manapul over at Legionworld:

I thought it might be cool to make element lad green. His costume had too similar of a color scheme as Sunboy. his costume along with sunboys is still a work in progress for me. the one I'm having a tough time with is starboy.. I really like his current costume so I'm torn whether I should give him an update since pretty much everyone else will. As for CB's pads, I have taken note that not a lot of people like them.. I actually have looked at these forums along with others before I did the redesign to get a bit of a feel of what people want. However I can't please everyone I can only do so much that said, to the displeasure of many of you, CB's pads ain't going nowhere. I hope it will grown on you guys eventually

One thing I did notice about the scetches in the article. The last scetch of the 3 founders the costumes look like the reboot versions. With the belts and the side pouches those are too close to the reboot style to just be nothing I think. Makes me wonder if he did them just for the heck of it trying things out to get a feel for the characters or if there is a reason for it.

It's been hinted at least three Legions are co-existent in the new Multiverse. I'm sure we'll see the post-ZH Legionnaires during the anniversary.

Maybe a flashback to their first mission.

I'm pretty sure he kept a monthly schedule on Witchblade and I think there may have been a delay with his Necromancer series but I can't remember for sure. Hopefully he has enough lead time to get some issues in the can. I love Francis' work...and he is a great guy...I met him at last years Toronto Con and he did a Snake-Eyes sketch for me and now I'm wishing I had gotten him to do another sketch for me featuring a Legion character or two...oh well, theres always next time!
