Yea, I know, but... I don't really go for this "all ages" out of continuity stuff...
Damn it... But I'm not reading any of the others ones! Not even FF!

So, in this issue, are we getting some classic Hawkeye action/dialogue?

Having grown up on Marvel in the 1960's, most of these "all ages" books remind me of the old days.
Although I don't know if I will ever get used to the Hulk having pals.

Oh crap, he's about to cause All Ages Avengers Disassembled, isn't he?

The issue was definitely a lot of fun. Hawkeye was great and the scenes where Ironmans armor was melted showing his boxers I thought was good.

that's why i enjoy this title, it's kind of old skool writing and storytelling like the classic stuff. it's just fun and enjoyable reading.

I love how Wolverine's first reaction is to call Iron Man and gossip. And Cap just facepalms.

Eh, it is and it isn't. If it was really old school, there'd be huge caption blocks everywhere, and no one would know who each other was. This is really a new style of writing, it's just tame. The world isn't being changed forever every issue. Nothing all that important that would change any kind of status quo really happens. Which can be a nice change of pace, but is the exact opposite of, say, how Stan and Jack ran FF. Or at least how they ran FF at its peak.

What made this issue for me was the return of Karl~!

Karl is back? Cool!
I usually kinda wait for the digest form of the books... but if Karl is back I definately am not gonna wait that long.

I'd categorize Jeff Parker's writing as "old-school with modern sensibilities". Geoff Johns and Dwayne McDuffie write in the same style, and maybe PAD, depending on what he's working on.

I'd characterize it (at least *here*) as Saturday morning cartoon. ;-) It's like Justice League Unlimited but if possible, with even less bite.

Good. I'm SICK of bite. All those major megaleague crossovers have gotten me all bitten out.

I like bite. But sometimes I need a break from the pain and read comics that just gum. It's the slobber, more than anything, that drives me back to grim n' gritty 616.

Nothing ever really happens. It's Marvel Age Adventures. But Egghead forms a new Masters of Evil, with a bunch of second-tier, future Scourge victims. Hawkeye tries to join the Avengers. They all think he was planted by the Masters of Evil. But he wasn't, he just had bad timing. Hawkeye helps them defeat the Masters of Evil. And macks on Storm and Jan.
And for the record, the thread wasn't originally created as a recap thread. Originally it just said "G-rated Hawkeye is a pimp - MAA 16 Spoilers." Because all I wanted to do was post the two panels, being Clint hitting on Jan and Clint putting the moves on Storm. Mods changed the title to be more of an all-purpose recap thread.

Gotta have some bite, though. That's the difference between JLU and Superfriends.
Well, the differences are many and varied, but that's one of them.

I still say the Superfriends had a better theme song. In actual tune, if not in performance. And I think this proves it: http://www.evanlocey.com/Misha_SuperfriendsThemeMarchingBandRemix.mp3

Oh, no argument. The JL theme was lackluster. The Superfriends theme got you pumped enough that you momentarily forgot there wouldn't be any fighting in the actual episode.

That's cool. Thanks for the info...
One question though...does Hawkeye end up joining the Avengers roster in this issue or is he just helping them out?

It would appear that he does. Although I'd wait for the next issue before I made any definitive statements on that.

IIRC, I didn't see him on the cover of the next one, but who knows if that's any indication...

I agree. Heck, MOST Saturday morning cartoons today have more bite and depth then MAA and MANY INDIVIDUAL ISSUES of the other MA books (MA IRON MAN and MA SPIDER-MAN under PAD, are currently the best MA books, IMO).
Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT bashing MAA or the or the other MA books. In fact, I applaud Marvel for publishing these books. I just feel that they often "write down" to the readers in those books.
I said it before, and I'll say it again. The pre-Quesada/Jemas code approved Marvel comics,X-MEN FIRST CLASS,SPIDER-GIRL,and the other recent MC2 mini series is how all ages superhero comics SHOULD be writen. I want the MA books to be writen like those books. Those books DO NOT talk down to the readers and have lot's of depth.

I read MA books regularly. I nver fel talked down to. Then again, I go into the books not expecting anything but a fun romp for a number of pages. I'd compare it less to JLU and more to the old TMNT or even G.I. Joe or Transformers cartoons (the older ones.)
It's got an old saturday morning cartoon vibe to it. Not much substance there, but it's fun for a while.

I LOVE MA Iron Man. It literally fills me with glee. I giggle. It's sad.
Anyway. ;-) I sometimes get the feeling that the target audience is parents reading with their children, and that the writers want to please the widest possible audience without making anyone uncomfortable in the process. And too, there's almost a conscious rejection of depth, if that makes sense - it's like they just wanted to put out an all ages action comedy, with sitcom-like pacing. I wouldn't say they're 'writing down' per se - I think they're just kind of reveling in the chance to have some consequence-less, wacky fun.
