Hi all

I just registered to ask this one question, I hope somebody can help me, and I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section or violating some other point of etiquette...no offence meant! I'm writing from Ireland.

I had a comic book when I was younger, and I'm desperately trying to find out what it was...it's been annoying me for years! I asked on Yahoo! Answers and someone directed me here. I posted under "Independent" as I think it was very much a once-off publication.

It was in the style of an annual, I'd say maybe 50-100 pages. I think it was called Heroes or Legendary Heroes. There was a colour montage on the cover showing various different scenes-- I don't think they even related to the stories-- I remember an astronaut with light reflected on his visor was one.

From my VERY limited knowledge of comics, I think the style of art-- at least in some of them-- may have been Spanish. (I used to read Eagle as a kid, in the 90s.)

The stories were VERY strange. They had a Twilight Zone flavour about them, as far as I can remember. I can remember very little, though. I think one story was about an ordinary man who finds he's a god/king in some parallel world, and reluctantly embraces this destiny at the end.

The final story (I think) was about Jack the Ripper, or at least set in Victorian London and involving a serial killer or murderer. I think there may also have been a time machine and/or an insane asylum involved. It was very violent, and I remember one image of a tag attached to the toe of a body.

I think it may have been published in the seventies, though I would have been reading it early-mid eighties. In any case, there were some serious flared trousers on view!

Well, any comic geniuses out there have any ideas? If you can help me, I will buy you doughnuts for the rest of your life. (Offer comes with terms and conditions)

Thank you lots

John Storm

It sounds like that you are describing one of the anthologys that were released by Fleetway and other english publishers in the eighties. I don't remember any Irish publishers doing something like this. If you remember back on the shelves of the shops in Ireland in the mid eighties there were lots of digest size anthologys re-releasing the likes of Battler Britain and Dan Dare and old war stories. Then there were others that were magazine size like 2000AD. It may be no harm trying to google old publishers of these magazines and tracking down their back catalogue. Good luck!
