But not a mutant.

My favourite is Jamie Madrox, who is one of the three characters that is consistently in my Top 10 favourite characters, while others are mixed around a lot.

Yes he is, the whole re-conned cyclops is the only one who could hurt me thing was only true when I was using an illusion was the biggest BS in x-men history and basically way to make him less unbeatable so more writers could have other character hurt him. If he can make an illusion strong enough that only one can hurt him, he has the power enough so that only that one man can really hurt him.

Not to mention if that whole healing thing as well as other powers he has used doesn't make him a mutant what would?

I mean is he in your opinion just some freak with white skin?

He's a freak with white skin. He happens to be a freak with white skin who actually got that skin, his armor, and abilities from Apocalypse, but he's still a freak with white skin.

EDIT: Oh, and my favorite mutant is Shadowcat. She has been since the first story I read with her in it. Not that I remember what that was or anything.

My favourite mutant is Nightcrawler :)

I was fascinated by him when I first discovered him in video games and was ecstatic when he appeared in my beloved TAS. He's been my favourite ever since.

Anole, Iceman, Hellion, Gambit, Rogue, Kitty, Pixie, Mercury, Elixir, Psylocke and Beast are among my favourite too. I feel bad leaving out any of the New kids or Storm, Colossus etc...I love virtually all of them!

Madrox is one of my current faves. Layla might not count since we don't know for sure she actually is a mutant. Magik's great as well but i need to see more of her current incarnation for her to rise to number 1.

Apocalypse was a favorite until Blood of Apocalypse and the 12 storyline largely ruined him.

My all time favorite mutant is barely known and only had two tiny appearances in annuals: Amalgam.

Sinister is basically a extremely powerful mutate who can improve his abilities. And for a freak, he sure is ingenius and remains a winner.

Hahahaha. I do love Wolf Cub. But just because I'm his #1 fan, doesnt mean he's my #1 Mutant. Does that make sense? I love Wolf Cub because he's this cute little naive boy who has certainly been through his share of suffering, and has been thrown into the thick of this chaotic world. But I have other favorite mutants.

I love Wolf Cub, I do. But he's not necessarily my first pick. I mean, how can he be? We havent see that much of him. Chamber, eXiles, and cameos in New X-Men. Thats all. And I want to see more! I want his character developed. Maybe then. But for now, I have other favorites.

Shaman mentions that Elizabeth Touyamen has the natural ability to harness mystical energy as the Talisman; the circuit of enchantment releases her potential to wield mystical energy. She basically wields magic as a mutant power what took Shaman years of study as a student.

Yeah ... no.

Hybrids often possess what seems like new traits (e.g the liger's size) because of the odd mix of the different genes. So arguing that because she possesses attributes her parents do not makes her a mutant is absolutely poodle pop. A theory/hypothesis fails if you cannot account for the variables and thus becomes speculation, so yeah but no.

There's also a huge difference with Namor (and Namorita AND Psylocke AND Jamie Braddock) since he is mentioned by authoritative persons as being a mutant. Plus you know, he doesn't have the whole magical goddess thing obscuring that status either.

kekekeke ~

I f0rGoTz YoU w3r3 A sAtIr3!!!!

Phoenix is not a goddess - she has massive amounts of power which allow her to transcend what we consider human (or even a god). Snowbird is a goddess in that she is ultimately descended from the same creatures as Cthon, Set and Gaea, all of whom possess different abilities governed by their divine aspects (e.g war) - none of those gods is considered a mutant and thus Narya is also not a mutant. Further, if you had bothered to read the post at all then you would realise what you say is SPECULATION because it does not account for variables nor has been ratified by an authority.

OMG....Nimrod??? Do you seriously think all of these characters are mutants?? Cause....they're not. No bolded letters, or assumptions about Marvel editors, or your imagination will make them mutants.

I disagree with him, but I know what his reasoning is: when Nimrod had merged with Mastermold, he told Mastermold that they had 'mutated', that the Sentinels' prime objective was eliminating mutants, and that he should 'fulfill his prime objective'. So, Mastermold allowed himself to be sucked through Siege Perilous, eliminating himself now that they had become 'a mutant'. Poor Nimrod had developed a conscience at this point; that's how sophisticated a machine he was.

But, of course, although Nimrod is a sophisticated machine with the ability of improving himself, he is not now, has never been, and never will be A MUTANT.

I did not chose all the Claremont characters. However, Claremont spent 17 years on Uncanny X-Men developing primary & secondary characters; whereas, the writers after Claremont did not invest the same creative input on their X-Men related stories. It explains why there has not been many new memorable mutants...

Is Meggan technically a mutant?

Meggan is a elemental metamorph whose powers are linked with the Earth; her powers are directly tied to the British Isles. If she were to leave the UK for any extended period of time, she will lose all control over her mutant powers. Meggan's powers are only limited by her force of will, her imagination, but she's still fundamentally human.

Yes. Meggan's mutant powers manifested at birth which unfortunately left her to be abandoned by her birth parents because they thought she was a demon. Since she was born outside during winter, Meggan's metamorphic powers gave her fur to protect herself from the cold. Meggan's natural empathic abilities also magnified the superstition around her which kept her monstrous appearance until it was broken with her time with Brian & Betsy Braddock...

No, Snowbird is not a mutant, she is a demi-goddess. She is as much a mutant as Hercules is, which is not at all.

Nor is Talisman, becuase she was a foretold prophecy, so she would be as much a mutant as Jesus.

Nimrod isn't a mutant either, because what powers does he have that his parents didn't have? Because he changed from his initial programming? He's as much a mutant as the Vision, which is also not at all.

Oh stop being such a literalist, DDM, or we're gonna have to start calling you Joe Acro. Nobody's talking about a 'deviation from the norm', we're talking about Marvel's mutant race. Possessors of the X-Gene. Etc, etc, etc. And Nimrod's not a mutant by ANY stretch of the imagination, because mutant in regards to an entity refers to biological entities. Sublime is 'technically' a mutant strain of bacteria, though still not what the original poster of this thread was referring to, I imagine. Nimrod is not a mutant. Nimrod is a malfunctioning construct gone rogue, aka every artificial intelligence story EVER. Snowbird is not a mutant either, because deviating from the standards your parents set means jack shit when you throw magic into the equation, because magic in fiction makes up its own damn rules.

C'mon man, I know everyone gives you a hard time around here, but its because of shit like this. You're being slightly ridiculous here. None of us are third graders who can't go to a Webster's dictionary and see that yes, the literal usage of the word mutant can apply to MORE than just how Marvel applies it. But we're all talking about Marvel's mutants here.

Why rock the boat, man?

OMG did I really just say that? I'm so Establishment!

Interesting character. I wonder how I missed him. Oh yeah. He has that big "X" on his uniform.

Just checked him out on Wiki. Adopted and raised by a white family. Jubilee was adopted and raised by a white family too was she not?

Black mutant males dying. White mutant males taking up with their bereaved lovers. Lovely black mutant females pursued by little furry trolls, fuzzy blue demons and french-kissing the slobbering mouths of were-men.

The X-Universe should just implode.

Anyway, I like the character. He actually has a power that isn't dependent upon another mutant's power somehow. That's a start.

Exactly! I HATE undefined power sets! Like, I love powers that are like.....explicit, and then they like, expand them and explore new ways to use them, like with Iceman.....where even when the 'new' powers don't QUITE fit with your original conception, they're still like, ice or water related.....but with characters like Sinister, I'm just like UGH. Because you never know when they're just gonna be like, bam, energy blast, bitch! I always thought Magma was really interesting and hot (i know bad pun)
but they have thoroughly demolished her character with all the stupid retcons to where noone wants to use her really.
i know she had a bit part in the 198 but she still cant get rid of freaking empath who needs to be incinerated who what hes done to her.
Karma is sort of interesting but she isn't used much either.

My fave is STORM, although I wish she were an Avenger, but I also wish the Avengers were Avengers too....*sigh* (thank the Goddess I still have Marvel Adventure Avengers to read for that fantasy)

X-Men was what got me into Marvel and for that i remain eternally thankful. As for picking a fave that's hard, i like soo many that its hard to pick. I think Cyclops just edges it for me and he was the character that had to grow on me the most. I really did'nt like him at first but the character just kept creeping up on me.

I thought it was pretty much established in the Colossus Bloodlines miniseries that Sinister grafts the genetic abilities of those he captures (and experiments with) onto himself. I thought that was a pretty good reason why he has so many abilities, and it also leaves room for future writers to include more.

It might have been established even before that, but I don't collect very many X-men comics, so I wouldn't know. In addition to what Apocalypse gave him, he adds the abilities of other mutants/metahumans that he acquires via genetic material onto himself. I think that' pretty damn cool.

PS: And Apocalypse also has abilities that are unrelated (molecular control and power blasts? Uh-huh.)

I believe that was established in the Gambit series (the one by Nicieza/Skroce, not the latest one). Don't know the issues by heart, but Gambit and Courier travel back in time and Sinister uses some of Courier's genetic material to copy his powers.

Favorite Mutant: Sunspot

Here is a character who deserves more attention and action in the MU.

Roberto DaCosta's powers make better sense than most of the mutants ever created. DaCosta's powers are solar oriented. His dark/black flesh is perfect for this as black and dark flesh absorbs sunlight. Cyclops and Havoc derive their powers from the sun as well, but as their white flesh reflects more sunlight than it absorbs, it should not make them as powerful as they are and certainly not as powerful as Sunspot.

There is/was also, a lovely African mutant who had a third eye in the middle of her forehead. She seemed to have been very interesting. So many good characters were eliminated by Decimation. It's a shame.

And we can't know for sure, really, but I doubt skin tone really has any affect on how much sunlight they absorb. If part of their mutant ability is to absorb sunlight through their skin cells, they'll absorb sunlight through their skin cells.

It's somewhat hard to compare the three power-wise, as Sunspot can channel his absorption toward other things than just energy projection.

sunspot got so much more powerful in x-force it was crazy, he went from being just super strong to having flight and energy blasts. i hope they take him out of limbo soon, and not just to kill him off.
i hope that MC doesnt let people lurk in limbo, but i dont want shock value kills just for the sake of the crossover.

Prior to the advent of digital coloring techniques, Roberto DaCosta's flesh coloring was very similar to, if not exactly the same as the flesh coloring of Storm, Black Panther, Falcon, Luke Cage and other black characters in the MU. Compared to the pale-fleshed Scott and Alex Summers, Roberto DaCosta is a black man.

And we can't know for sure, really, but I doubt skin tone really has any affect on how much sunlight they absorb.

That is how it should be. Black absorbs light. White reflects light. I'm sure this science as it relates to the affect it could have on the powers of mutants would be ignored by those writers and creators who would discover that by virtue of absorbing the sun's light and thus, it's power, a dark or black-skinned mutant like Roberto DaCosta could be potentially as powerful - for short periods of time - as the man of steel himself.

Sunspot is a fascinating and worthy character. Not only does sunlight endow him with tremendous physical strength, he is able to project energy in a destructive offensive attack and is also able to fly under his own power. These abilities suggest that he is already more powerful than either Cyclops or Havoc.

And as I've already indicated, Sunspot is my favorite mutant.

Claremont gave Sunspot a pretty good role being in charge of the Hellfire Club now. I'd like to see that followed up on.

sunspot is brazilian, and in comic books skin color doesnt mean the science of absorbing light is involved, they are adapted to absorbe light. and for sunspot when he is using his power his skin, and aura turn black, not skin color black but pitch black, so that is how he abrorbs his power,

have we seen roberto since he started runing the hellfire club? it would be cool to see him trying not be an evil lord imerial, strugling with his heroic roots, faced with all that power.
