Old Thor mini-series

hi,

in the 90ties, i read in a french magazine a serie featuring a young Thor in asgard, how he got his hammer etc...

anyone remember this serie ? who wrote it and who pencilled it ? has it been collected ?

Could you mean Thor:Son of Asgard? Or maybe it was a compilation of old Tales of Asgard done originally back in the 60's? The latter have been reprinted in various formats over the years and there were several regarding how Thor earned the right to wield the hammer beween ages 8 and 16 I think, in Asgardian terms.Son of Asgard mght've covered simlar territory in more detail, adding in Sif's role in his boyhood.

no it's not that "son of Asgard" collected in digest format.
now that I think about it, i read that serie i am looking for in the beginning of the 80ties, not in the 90ties like i said, but they may have been created earlier than that because France was always late at publishing comics (sometime we even had stuff 5 years after they were published in the states!)

I vaguely remember a young thor traveling to troll caves to ask them to make mjolnir.
loki was there ofcourse. i remember a panel where he transforms into a crow.
ring any bells ?

it might be one of the "tales of Agard" but i dont know which one ! I guess i'll have to dig into some volumes of "essential thor" to find out.

Better than that.... try going to look for the Tales of Asgard collection reprints... how many volumes were there? Two?

could not find any "tale of asgard" collection or tpb...
I dont think the serie i remember was the first one done in the 60ties. It wasnt drawn by kirby. It was a little like Steve Epting...

does the 2d volume of tales of asgard tells the story of a young thor ?
how many thor runs depicts his youth ?

I believe there were several individual tales of Thor as a boy, and Loki developing his hatred of Thor included in an arc or two of Tales of Asgard.
If you wish to check this out, look for the 1968 (or so) collection of Tales of Asgard #1 with the cover price of 25 cents. It doesn't collect them all, but it is a nice way to get the first several dozen in one spot!
Essential Thor may also feature them, but they are in black and white and interspersed between the main feature installments. Just not as good in my book!
