We all have guys we love to hate. Characters we're not supposed to like, and don't, but that's what makes them good. They're the guys that make life tough for the hero, who aren't quite evil enough to be out and out villains, but there's something about them that makes you want to drop a safe on their head.
I like USAgent. When he's written right, he's a total a-hole. In his defense, he's been brainwashed and used more times than Joan Collins goes through mattresses. That girl sleeps with everybody. That said, he was kind of a jerkwad even before all that happened. He makes Ultimate Cap look like a teddy bear in comparison. He makes Guy Gardner look rational and collected. And I wouldn't have it any other way. Seriously. When they soften him up, he sucks.

Is Doctor Doom applicable here? It's hard to tell from your description, are you just talking about Anti-heroes? Minor villians?
Doom, In his best written stories, it always seemed like there was something good and inherently noble locked away inside of him that was shattered into a hundred pieces.
Theres not a FF story alive where I believed I rooted against him.

favourite character I don't like - hmm sounds like a contradiction to me :p
if you mean love to hate - then Carnage works for me
if you mean dislike immensely - then Venom or the revived Green Goblin

BENDIS. Can't stand his writing, yet I can't seem to drop New Avengers or Mighty Avengers. I need to know how badly he;s screwing it up because I love complaining about him so much.
It;s sad, I know. You don't need to tell me that.

So in other words, you're a closet Bendis fan? ;)

Not really too sure how I feel about Bendis's closet.

Red Skull. I know I'm supposed to hate him, but you have to admit...he's a great villain.

Moondragon. When written the way I like to remember her back in her Avenger/Defender days, she is a total, manipulative, arrogant bitch. You know when she shows up, trouble is a'brewin, and she's probably gonna mind zap somebody to "enlighten" them. You hate her, but she makes for good stories.

Erik Killmonger aka N'Jadaka. Despise him.

This is a toughy... Hmmm... well, once upon a time it would have been Moondragon, but that's really changed in the last few years. It has to be a character I actually like involved in stories, so that throws out Brand, Cho, and Gauntlet...
I'm going to say Maria Hill. She's pretty much S.H.I.E.L.D.'s queen bitch right now, and I love her for it. And if there was ever a character who needed to get laid, she's it.

I thought I made it clear, but I guess not. This isn't about characters you hate. This is about characters the writer has specifically set up for you not to like, and you enjoy their crap-stirring. I'd prefer not out-and-out villains, because that's kind of obvious, but whatever. So more of a USAgent/Gyrich/Flash Thompson vibe. It was sort of inspired by the Layla Miller/ Amadeus Cho thread, how people love to hate Miller, but just kind of are irritated by Cho.

And that's why I said Hill. We've supposed to not like her, and I love to hate her.

And that's a very good choice. But there were a few others that fell more into the hate-hate arena. And this was supposed to be a celebration of characters who happen to be a-holes, not a bitch-fest for people who don't like a character. Or writer. How the hell did that end up there? Sigh.

Kind of a "shades of gray" thing is it. Well, that leaves me out. I either like 'em or loathe 'em :)

Well, if it's a celebration of A-holes I'm sure Namor is high on your list.:p
Characters that many feel are morally objectionable or have unlikable personalities that I love: Namor, the Late Jack Monroe, J.J. Jamison, High Evolutionary, Thin Man, USAgent, Galactus, Wolverine, Punisher, Deadpool, Taskmaster, Moon Knight, Sandman, and Winter Soldier.
Characters I hate that I should probably love but still want to see: Xavier, Mister Fantastic, Human Torch II, Iron Man, Cyclopes, Doc Samson, Hank Pym.

Namor? Namor is a bada-Mofo who dont take no guff from nobody because he's he leader of one of if not the strongest most technologicaly advanced scocity on earth.
That being said if I ever I had a villian i kinda liked it was Kang. Sure he's nutier than a fruitcake from the peanut barn but still he has a code of honor and a somwhat sense of fairplay. He could easily travel to the future grab what he knows will beat us and bam where toast, or he could go back to the past when we barly had superheros and again where toast. Instead he just gets what he needs to have a great battle with us in the present.

Since I'm a Heroes For Hire reader, I have to say Paladin. He is such an asshole to everybody, and although I started out thinking he was a jerk, I have developed an appreciation for that jerkyness. I love how he sneaked a peak at Black Cat when she was out-for-the-count and I think his traitoress qualities are entertaining. Lets face it, sometimes he says things that are damn funny- and he definately stirs up crap :p

The Sentry .... I shouldn't like him - he's too powerful and ... well nuts ... I didn't like JRJR's art in the first few issues or the story line for that matter .. do not have a clue why I like him.

The one thing I hated about that... bandages tend to go on the inside. I'm not saying sneaking a peak isn't outside of Paladin's character, because he's a man slut. But you have to take her shirt off to save her life. The whole thing was going into crappy anime territory.
But yeah, Pal's a fun one. Gru had him tag teaming with Cap in the early 90s, and he's like early Hawkeye, but with a capitalistic streak and fuzzier morals.

Frank Castle as written by Garth Ennis.
Garth is the only writer I've ever seen who understands what Frank is and that is a sadistic serial killer. Its not about revenge anymore, its about the kill and its about sadism. Garth writes Frank as an emotionally dead person who has lost his soul. You shouldn't like him but it works so well you enjoy reading about him.
(I'm nervous about the new storyline and Franks baby for how it might affect things)

Oh yea, I definately agree that Paladin saved her life and she made a big deal out of nothing, but his sleazyness makes it so entertaining
I wish I had read more comics earlier, but I don't know much about how he was back then :( I can definately see the likeness between him and Hawkeye- they both just say what they think and I like it :D

Currently? White Queen for sure.
I've always been a fan of classic Quicksilver, when he was just a huge jerk and not an honest-go-goodness villain.

I echo JJJ votes, as in some instances he has a point
depending on who's writing him, readers get a different impression of what Jonah's motives are. It easy to label as a 'bad guy', but then you remember when he stood up to Graydon Creed during Operation Zero Tolerance
