View Full Version : About Pixie and her dagger

So, by now most of us have seen the previews for next week's New X-Men # 42. Pixie discloses that she still has her dagger (christened the Soul Dagger), putting to rest speculation that it was destroyed or left in Limbo at the end of "Quest for Magik."
I wonder what properties her dagger will have? Illyana stated that the dagger could disrupt spells and magics, similar to 'Yana's own Soulsword. But surely, since Illyana's spell to conjure a new blade from Pixie's soul was interrupted, Pixie's dagger must now differ from Illyana's Soulsword somehow, right? As it is, the Soulsword is a very potent mystical weapon, coveted by demons and sorcerers alike because of its unique properties. I wonder how dissimilar Pixie's blade will be from Illyana's, and if she'll be able to use it in battle. (Illyana was never able to because the Soulsword could only affect magical beings and constructs)
It will be interesting to see how Chris Yost and Craig Kyle develop Pixie. Good to see they aren't turning her into Illyana II, all angst-ridden and dark. Sure, she's got that 1/5 of her soul missing, but that doesn't automatically qualify her to be this year's Magik. I guess it makes sense that given her nature and powers, that she would somehow be tied to the realm of the mystical. I'm wondering how her new magical abilities (thus far teleportation and now the creation of her dagger, since she hasn't learned anything else) will impact the rest of the team.
Could be good...

I disapprove of Pixie knowing teleportation spells (should limbo spells even work on earth? They didn't in Magik's day) and learning magic from Dr. Strange, I have noticed some of the effects of the soul thing though - how she was almost callous in her humour while Beat tended to Dust. As for the dagger, I don't honestly see how it could be useful outside of magical plotlines (or stabbing kitty:p) so maybe it will only come up when Magik turns up to claim Pixie's soul.

From what I remember, Illyana could use some very basic spells on Earth such as scrying and astral projection. Nothing major like in Limbo where she was basically Sorceress Supreme. I think she could only consciously do the spells Storm taught her in Limbo, but when she went looking for Kitty after the White Queen kidnapped her, she astral projected to find her and Emma disrupted her astral form. That caused some weird demon mini-invasion back at Xavier's, the result of which was Illyana coming out to the New Mutants about her magic. But then there's the dagger. Too bad it can't be used to stab Wanda and retroactively erase the effects of any spell she ever used.

She dissaproves of you too. Strongly. Watch out.
I didn't read the scene as Pixie deliberately being callous. She came off as just being a little too busy babbling about herself to really think about how it appears to others. She certainly wasn't happy about Nezno's relevation. I think Pixie is still naive and somewhat thoughtless but means no harm.
The dagger worked against Belasco. Perhaps it's only proof against magical entities?
I'd love to see Dr. Strange teaching Pixie while trying to enforce that vow of silence! I'd also like to see more of Pixie and Dust together. Pixie's a perfect foil to Soorya's reserve.

I like Pixie. I think a hyperactive chatterbox is what the team seems to need right now.

Yeah, even Yost has admitted that things "might have got a little grim".
The team is nice and rounded now :)

There will be deaths in Messiah Complex. Two atleast. HOPEFULLY none will be from the New X-Men cast...
And of course after Messiah Complex, everything is changing and the book will probably morph into something else.

They've already killed enough kids in the book, but I'm sure they'll kill some character in the X-Men that people are going to miss. (Hoping it's not Beast!)

Wizard had an article where they said one of the people to the left will die, and all the people to the left were non New X-men mutants

Rogue, Mystique, Sinister, Beast, Madrox, Bishop, Cable, Prof X, Storm. I think that was it.

Well, I don't think Storm's going to die and maybe not Sinister, but the others, which happen to all be characters I like, have a chance of dying.
But then I rememeber an interview with Carey, saying he took his time building up Rogue, why would be want to kill her, but then again it is a storyline that's going to change all the x-books.

I told you all that she didn't leave it in Limbo. Its too cool to leave something like that behind.

The only thing Pixie should do with her dagger is slash her wrists, because she's a worthless, stupid, ditzy brat.

I don't know, even with a second dagger does she meet the minimum metal content to join Team Sharp, Pointy Objects.

If you ask me, the Soulsword is cooler. Still, Pixie's dagger could be an interesting development.

I don't know, Warpath just got two knives. You're saying she needs gold plating on her teeth or something?

I like the idea of Pixie being somewhat adept at Mysticism, as her original powers were not really suited for combat. Now she can be a trainee mage, trying to master spells to save her life.
Obviously I don't want her Doctor Strange level, novice at best.

True... maybe Cornell should take a turn instead... or PAD, I've got this plot all worked up in my head where Amanda drops by X-factor Investigations to see her old drinking buddy Sy, then they proceed to get wasted for several weeks and mayhem ensues.
Also, Jamie sleeps with her. :D
