So I just bought an LCD HDTV and I decided to get the component cables for the Wii because I want to get the most out of it. Regular games work fine, N64 virtual console games work fine, but if I try and play one of my NES VC games I receive an error.

When I start the game, it goes right to the Wii Home menu. Hitting home again and the screen image freezes. I can hear sound, but have no control over anything. If I try to reset the game through the home menu, I end up with just a black screen.

I haven't had the chance to try it yet, but I'm going to hook the Wii back up to the HDTV with the composite cables to see if that fixes it. But if that is the case, then I'm kind of mad because that means I can't play NES VC games with my component cables hooked up.

I just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced this problem when bumping their Wii up to an HDTV. If so, are there any workarounds?

yes, I had the same problem. And the solution is to play the VC games with the composite cable. I know it sucks, but what you wanna do.

Really? Man, that sucks.

I wonder if it is a permanent error, or if it is something they could fix with a system update.

Late-breaking news!

I was browsing around on the Nintendo site trying to find how to contact them to ask about the issue, and realized that I hadn't set my Wii to display as HDTV. I changed that setting, and the NES games work fine now.
