View Full Version : May I have prayers for my kitty?

She's been with me for nearly as long as I've been with Larime, and has been very good company for me since I've become sick.

She can't feel some of her feet, and her limbs are painful, so she can't walk, and she's lost her appetite. The vet thinks it's a clot, or possibly something neurological, though he is pretty stumped since these symptoms are uncommon in cats. But he gave us meds for her, so we'll try those.

She's ten and when we got her, she'd suffered some neurological damage because she'd been abandoned as a kitten and had been severely starved and dehydrated before the rescuers got to her, and was unusually small and weak. So I'm worried that it's getting close to her time, and I'm not ready to see her go.

Maybe it's selfish, but when I can't get up in the morning because I feel too sick, a warm, purring Del in the crook of my arm makes everything better for a while.

So if it's not too much trouble, some kind energy sent her way would be nice.

Thanks.

My babies and I (Faye, Nibs, Dixie, Isis, and Ling Ling) will keep you in our prayers. God bless you and I hope Del will be ok. I don't know how I would take it if any of my fluffy children fell ill. Faye is my shadow and constant companion and I don't know sometimes if I could love my real children any more than I do my kitties. I can only imagine how hard this must be. Please keep up posted on any changes.

Me and my lions pride send you our best for you and your kitty, Rev.

I know what you mean, too. When I first got sick the doctors wanted me to get rid of my cats, cause they thought it would make my allergies worse; blah, blah blah.

Needless to say, I told him to go to hell and found another doctor and kept my kitties. Some days they were the only reason I had to even try to get up..

Dogs are nice, but there's nothin' like the unconditional love of a kitty.

Good luck with your baby.

I'm praying for all three of you guys. I know that when my dad passed, my mom got tremendous comfort from her four cats.

One of them actually left an abusive home, had a bunch of kittens on her doorstep just my mother had earned her trust, and so she ended up having to find homes for 5 of the 7 kittens, and kept the last two and their scraggly mom. She still has them, and her 17-year-old housecat as well. And yes, they absolutely adore her. =)

Good thoughts going out to you and your kitty...my wife and I have two of our own. If you haven't tried it and it's available in your area, you might consult a vet trained in alternative medicine like acupuncture...it really helped our epileptic cat reduce the frequency of his seizures from evey month to something like every four months.

Best wishes to you both! :)

Update on Delirium:

This morning she hobbled out of the nest we've made her all of her own choosing and jumped (a bit awkwardly) onto Rev's bed for attention. After Rev laid back down, Del decided that wasn't enough attention and hobbled up to the head of the bed beside her for more. She was offered and accepted some cream, though she didn't drink too much, then wanted up in the window to look outside, so we put her in the window. She watched the world for a few minutes, then jumped down on her own and went back to rest in her nest.

It's a HUGE improvement over yesterday, as her OCD routines are starting to override her desire to curl up and sleep all day.

Thank you, all!

Larime,
I have had to taken care of a lot of sick cats so I know of which I speak. I do foster care for a local animal rescue group.

Instead of cream, try gerber's baby food. Turkey flavor is best. It tastes good, easy for them to swallow and easy for them to digest and it has most of the nutrients a cat needs to survive. What you can do is put it on your fingers and then put a little bit on her nose. Her natural instinct would be to lick it off her nose, and once she gets the taste she will want more. Then try to get her to lick it off your fingers. If she likes that, then try to give her some in a dish. It is a lot healthier for her than cream and I have always had good luck feeding it to cats who do not want to eat.

Reverend Smooth
09-18-2007, 02:37 PM
He's getting groceries later, so he will look for that. :3 Thank you for the tip!

Edit: Larime notes that we gave her cream because that's her absolute favorite thing in the whole wide world, an it was more about seeing if she'd accept anything at all, because nothing else worked. (Though she did try the soft food liquid after the cream, here before she wouldn't.

So no, not the best choice, just grasping at straws. And now he is off to get turkeystuffs.

Having two cats myself, my well wishes and prayers go out to yours, Rev.
Be carefully with your vet, I used to have one who demanded to put the animals to sleep all the friggin time, which infuriated me to no end, and I changed my pet doc, with the new one doing great work.

Hope the little one will be well again soon and that bloodflow in the little paw will improve again.

Sometimes when cats don't eat, they will stop eating. It is like their appetite just shuts off and you need to jump start it. Meat based baby foods are very good for jump starting it.

Glad I could help. Good luck with the paw though :(

Oh Rev.... :( I'm so sorry to hear that.

Red this, maybe it'll help you feel a bit better:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

It's always hard to lose a pet. When some time has passed though, you should think about getting another cat as there are many in need at shelters and you already know about the joy of owning a pet even though there is sadness when they pass.

*sniff* I'm so sorry.

At least your cat had a human to love. There are so many abandoned, unwanted cats and kittens out there. It breaks my heart.

When we adopted our new little meezer Koko (meezer=Siamese troublemaker), he was at a shelter with a ton of cute, friendly kittens in a big Petsmart. We filled out our paperwork early on a Saturday, and there was a crowd of people looking at all the cats. We thought for sure that all the kittens, at least, would have been adopted by the time we came back.

When we came back the next day to pick up Koko...only two other kittens had been adopted. That just broke my heart.

From everything I read, Del got ten years with two loving humans who spoiled her and nurtured her and took damn good care of her. We don't get them forever, but when we have them, it's awesome.

I truly feel for your and Larime's loss today, Rev. I'm really sorry.

My girlfriend has cared for many cats over the years and whenever one of them dies they all seem to know she is down and gather around her so she isn't alone. People think of cats as solitary and standoffish but my gf's cats even bonded with the iguana she had and they would often share the perch next to the hot rock. When it died last year you could tell that they were missing their big scaly friend.
