On the cover to Detective, it looks like Ra's Al Ghul has been transformed into Wolverine

Hawkman and the Atom, together again... sort of... Should be interesting to see if there's any sort of dynamic between Carter and Choi. Another reason for me to love Brave and the Bold, it would seem.
Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. volume two in January. Anxious for that. Just finished volume one and I forgot how entertaining this series was.
Bizarro 13" looks good, but Power Girl is still the only one I'm really thinking about investing in. The price tag is what holds me back on these guys, despite how good they look.
And it looks like DC predictably posterized the covers for JLA numbers 12 and 13. I'll definitely be considering the villains one when it hits the shelves.

They're finally collecting the unpublished short story they did for ORION in a TALES OF THE NEW GODS trade!!!!! :D :D :D
Oh, it'll be a merry Christmas indeed.

I got to say Countdown Arena looks pretty interesting. Maybe we can get some definitive answers for versus forums.

Really? I'm disgusted by the concept. It's like a lame fanfic. "Batman fighting Batman -- to the death!". Yuck!

What I don't get is wouldn't it be in the Monitor's best interest to have as many of the same characters as possible rather than killing each other? Why kill people that could be part of your army just cus they arent tough enough?

Especially since I don't see why most of them would go along with this, at least willingly. So you have to coerce them, then make them kill their other selves, and then have the strongest of them serve you under coercion?
Oh brother. Ludicrous doesn't even cover this.

I'll be getting the Doom Patrol and Superman trades, maybe the WS stuff done by Gage and the Green Lantern issues.
Most of the solicits depress me though, far too many titles are repositories for uninspiring inventory fodder.

It's a big month for me:

Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E vol 2
Manhunter v4: Unleashed
Superman: Redemption
Doom Patrol v6: Planet Love (maybe - I've already got the comics so I haven't decided whether to rebuy them)

I don't know for certain as I haven't seen anything more than you have about the book, but it looks to me as though most of the stories in this volume come from the backups from ORION. And from a few other places. But it doesn't look as though any of this material is from the Kirby Fourth World work so you shouldn't have to worry about material in this volume repeating the work in the Omnibus volumes.

Yes, because vaguely worded solicitations allow us to know the specific details of a story. Save your indignance for when the story is actually out, please.

Who said it was to the death?
Dan DiDio did, when he was interviewed by Newsarama at WW Chicago, posted 10-Aug-07: "Some go in willingly, a couple are forced into the competition, and once you step into each arena, not all the heroes are going to emerge from the arena alive."
So save *your* indignance for when your position isn't explicitly contradicted by the editor's own words.

Definitely some interesting stuff there:
After the Club of Heroes/Ra's crossover it looks like Morrison's continuing with The Three Ghosts of Batman stuff which gets a thumbs up from me
The solicit for Confidential seems to chuck both The an Who Laughs and the end of Year One out of continuity but I'm still intrigued to see how that story wraps up.
Not too sure about the Booster Gold/Killing Joke thing - seems to really show that DC is far too obsessed with its past and not with its future although we'll see what happens I guess.
By the way, since it was (I think) hinted at on of the Rogues' dying does anyone think that this is what "One of the Rogues becomes a real drag!" refers to? Bit of a grim image if so.

Not a lot picques my interst .....
Contdown: Arena sounds stupid and cool at the same time.
Whoa...last month, Flash's son had cockroach hands...now it's Animal Man's turn!
Search for Ray Palmer: Superwoman/Batwoman #1...fianlly! I have been waiting to see their world since forever! Superman's outfit doesn't look good on Superwoman, however.
Mister Miracle's god powers are finally turning on?? Hmmm...
GLC Secret Files...I am so there.
Hate the new Legion, but I LOVE that cover!!!

Right. I didn't think that the solicit was all that vague either. True, it doesn't promise direct hero on hero murder (although it implies it), and I'm sure that there will be a certain amount of manipulation to avoid the more egregious examples, but I think the purpose of the title is to still to exploit fan-fantasy imaginings about battles like this, when in fact doing so contradicts so many established parameters about these heroes. So they will involve alternate universe versions, in what I'm betting is a pretty shallow "they are all dragged into an arena" formula, without any kind of serious plot to back it up.
Well, I'd like to be proven wrong. I'd like it to have more depth. But I probably won't be, and it probably won't.
