View Full Version : A tragedy / mistake only a gamer could understand

So I'm completely addicted to Madden 08 right now as I'm addicted to any Madden game this time of year. But it could be any game that is essentially a sequel just to put you in the right frame of mind.
Its been two days since I've been able to play but I've been looking forward to returning to my franchise created team The Dragons ever since. Despite being an expansion team consisting of free agent rejects we are in the hunt for the playoffs and its week 13.
So I load up the game and it can't find my save file on the memory card. I try and try and try to no avail. :evilangry So I load only the memory card and see that the save file is there. I copy it to another memory card but still can't load it. I'm nearly crying / breaking things by now :( . I finally give up and pull the disc out in frustration - DOH!
It was Madden 07 I put in there. I forgot I had watched a movie last night on the PS2 and taken Madden 08 out. I grabbed the first Madden game I saw and stuck in tonight.
So all is well in the end but still this was a damn near tragedy. ;)

I almost took a crap when something like this happened to me. If it was Madden I honestly wouldn't care. lol

I remember once back in the day I had accidentally pulled out the memory card of my PS2 while saving a GTA: Vice City game. I was about 2/3s through the game and had to start over from scratch.

I once lost a memory card with my completed FF7, FFTactics, Xenogears, FF8, and I think Lunar and FM3 saves (and one or two other games). The clock had stopped on my FF7 game, and I had a hundred hours on FFT and Xenogears, so that's 300+ hours right there. Took forever to recover that.

FF7
I accidentally deleted my perfect FF7 game save file.
I had just defeated Ruby Weapon on it, all Weapons defeated, black chocobo, only thing I didn't have was master materia's in yellow and blue.
One day, just loading my memory cards I was looking at which file was which and without thinking what I was doing, deleted it.
I could not believe it, felt sick for days and what made it worse, is that no matter how much I tried (okay so only 6 or 7 but more then enough) I could not beat Ruby Weapon again this was the last save point.

I lost my trophy collections in Smash Bros. and Wind Waker... The sad thing is, even then I knew better than to use third party memory cards, and yet...

Never happened to me luckily. What I HAVE done, though, is saved in a crappy spot. Like in Breath of Fire, I saved right before a boss battle, not knowing that I'd be forced to use the character in my party I hadn't levelled up very much. There was no way to double back and get exp and I was killed with single hits.

I did similar to this on first play through in FF7 (being my first real FF game I didn't know about saving 2 save files or more. I was in the Temple of Acients and after you defeat the Red Dragon, you can save. o I did, not realising there is no other chance to level up a the enemies stop until you defeat the demon wall...and man, The Demon Wall is tough. Took me a fair fair long while to beat him,

I lost my Tomb Raider II data when the power went out at my aunt's house while I was in the middle of a save. I was so pissed! I found very secret, collected most of the dragon statues, had all the weapons. All that data gone.

I lost Final Fantasy Tactics save once right near the end of the game. I didn't care as much as I could have, seeing it was my 4th time threw the game.
EDIT. I did lose all my unlocks on Marvel vs. Capcom 4. That pissed me off.

Back when i was into Pokemon i had both Red and Blue versions (this was just before Yellow came out).
I had collected all 150 Pokemon via trading/catching and then i had also sent my Red version game to Nintendo factory to get Mew so i had all 151 Pokemon.
Being 11 or so this was a big achievement for me.
Anyway one day i was playing it and it was on my old gameboy and the batteries died or something whilst i was playing and i replaced them and started up again and the screen had all those black block parts around the menu screen so i took the game out and blew it and restarted and my save file was gone!
:( I never got back into it fully again.

I lost 5 years worth of PS2 game saves about a month ago when my memory card expander died on me. There was probably at least 30 different games on there, about half of which were RPGs.
FFX
Rogue Galaxy
Wild Arms 3
Arc the Lad
Entire Ratchet and Clank series
Entire Jak and Daxter series
Entire GTA series
God of War I and II
Devil May Cry 1 and 3
Both Maximo Games
Katamari Damacy
The Bard's Tale
Shadow of the Colossus
Guitar Hero
There were a few more too. Guitar Hero hurt the most because I had finally been able to 5-star Bark at the Moon on Medium.

it was too cool being just before the last boss fight in the original Sonic the Hedgehog and tripping on the power cable, smashing the Genesis on the ground and cursing the whole universe
you know, the game had the worst save system ever. It hadn't any.

When I was a kid, my mom would just burst into my room and shut off my NES/Genesis/SNES just to tell me something stupid, like "take out the garbage". Pissed me off like no other.

I do that kind of stuff all the time to my girlfriends son. He is a total snot and won't do anything he's asked because his almighty video games are too important.
Circuit breakers are fun. :D

NOOOO, lol, it's too cruel. Seriously, I would have rather had the belt than to have lost all of my progress in Earthworm Jim.
When Xbox Live first came out before I moved out of my parents house, she would barge in during a game of Counter Strike and say "I need to tell you something, Pause It!"
I would try to explain how it's not possible to pause an online game, but nooooooo.
Then there was always the moments when my dad overloaded our power and the electricity would momentarily shut off...right when I was defending Natalia in Goldeneye.

lol There's also the problem when you have to turn it off. Or try not to die so many times. lol Luckly, they fixed that problem in other systems.
