I'm going to say something bad about Bioshock.

First the good. And theres a lot of good.
The game looks FANTASTIC. First time i saw it was on a friends hi def projector screen so...yknow, of course it will look good. But i popped it in on my home, normal, non hi def tv and it is still possibly the best looking game i've ever seen.
The voice work, story, atomopshere is wonderful, it's really creepy too.
The powers are great fun.
Now, im not incredibly far in, so thats as far as i've gotten with good, but heres the bad.

It's too damn easy. Lauren, who to my knowledge has played 2 games in her life, ocarina of time, and world of warcraft, played for 3 hours last night, on normal difficulty, and never died.
And, as fun as the different abilites are, 90% of the enemies in the game can be killed by shocking them,and wacking them with wrench.
I have it on hard, have died once (due to not paying attention while making a sandwich) and there isn't even a real penalty for dying.

With a game with such a great story, i think it's super they made it accesible, but am i the only one who feels its a little too easy?

Yeah, I love Bioshock but you do have a point.

I played on normal and didn't die that often but the reson I died the most is because I'm too busy admiring a freaking jungle under-freaking-water. That and I forget to heal myself while duking it out with Big Daddy.

It's still an amazing game and definately Game of the Year material. :)

I concur. Game's definitely too easy, and the spawning points are really a lenght killer. Still a really great game

If the spawn points annoy you, save frequently and use them as checkpoints.

Bam, you've instantly got your typical FPS save system.

I was very happy with the forgiving respawns.

I grew up with NES games. I've earned the right to play a leisurely game, dammit!

Also, I have no patience. I forgot to save in Metroid Prime 2, got killed by the giant fish boss, and I haven't touched the game since. That was December of 2004.

I dont think its really easy, I think they made it accessible to anyone really. The game isnt "supposed" to be a straight shooter. Its supposed to be more tactical, they been touting it for along time as something you can approach fights all kinds of different ways and said players could use their brains to defeat foes.

Though I dont think its quite as inovative as they touted it as being.

I dont like the spawn tanks though really, its kind like of prey in that you essentially never die, get penalized or have to restart. You could beat bioshock using just the wrench if you wanted, just keep repsawning over and over again and runing back to get a couple more shots in before you died.

I just started playing it yesterday on PC and i started on easy because i didn't know what to expect.
I'll admit the game is pretty easy because the 'baddies' don't really do a lot of damage and you can just walk around with the wrench and zap and whack all of them.
Even the big daddies weren't too much of a problem... i haven't died yet so I'm not sure about those tank things you revive in.
Still it doesn't stop the game from being really fun, and great to look at.
The storyline isn't too bad either.

I don't like the respawn tank advantage either, so I just use the "save often" tactic I've used since Wolfenstein 3D. It adds slightly more challenge. I didn't use the respawn tanks in System Shock 2, either.
