Can someone give me a run down of the Sinestro Corps / War. Also, so far, what's the verdict? Good/Bad/Ugly?

Thanks.

Apparently I can't spell Corps in the Thread Title

It's simply the best thing going in comics today.

It's good, mindless, continuity-laden action. Real male adolescent power fantasy. At least, it's entertaining.

Very entertaining, and definitely worth the money, imo. Of course, I'm a fan of the Corps, so I may be biased, but this is basically the DC equivalent of the Annihilation Wave, and that was quite good.

Best thign DC is putting out right now. Easily.

Basic run down is that Sinestro has been quietly creating his own corps in the Anti-Matter universe on the planet Qwaard. The Anti-Monitor has been reborn and is the Guardian for Sinestro's Corps, much like the Oan's are the GLC's guardians.

With his initial assault on the GLC, Sinestro freed both Superboy Prime and Cyborg Superman and added them to his corps, along with killing dozens of Lanterns in the surprise attack and kidnapping Kyle Raynor. Sinestro quickly removed Ion from Kyle and infected him with the Parallax entity, similar to what happened to Hal Jordan.

From here, the story branches off into 2 different paths. One has Hal, Guy and John along with a small force of Lanterns (known as the Lost Lanterns) heading to Qwaard to try and save Kyle. Once there they find he has been turned into Parallax and they realize they cant save him at this time. They end up freeing the Ion entity and John and Guy, who were captured, and escaping from Qwaard. It is revealed in the recent issue that Sinestro is not attacking Oa, but Earth and the issue ended with a huge sea of yellow in the sky above Earth as the Sinestro Corps is set to attack. The Guardians had recalled all available Lanterns to defend Oa, expecting an attack there. This leaves only the 3 Earth based Lanterns to defend Earth against this onslaught.

The other story details the attack on Mogo, the living planet of the GLC. Many of the mainstay GLC, like Kilowagg, move to defend Mogo, as his destruction would spell the end of the GLC as he controls the rings ability to find new bearers. Sinestro has recruited Ranx, a sentient city that has grown to almost planet size, to combat Mogo along with the Children of the White Lobe, who will pierce Mogo's core. A huge war takes place between the GLC and Sinestro Corps above the planet and that is still ongoing.

The end ofthe recent issue had the Guardians rewrite the Book of Oa, allowing the GL's to use lethal force against the Sinestro Corps, which should lead to a very bloody conclusion to this storyline in th enext few issues. I have left a few details here and there out, but for the most part that is whats happened to date.

Excellent summary, Kirk.

I've only been skimming/briefly reading the storyline in the store and not buying the actual comic yet (waiting for the trade to come out), so this actually helped fill in a few blanks for me and organize things better.

It's a fun action packed book.

It's not trying to be the next Watchman or anything... it's purely a fun fantacy action adventure. And it works.

Right now, I'd argue it's the funnest thing in DC right now. Frankly I don't know why this wasn't DC's big summer event rather than Amazon Attacks.

It's awesome and fun! It's not high art, but it is all you need in a comic book, or at least all I need

GLORIOUS.

I think they are just going to gloss over it though in the big scheme of things for Crappy Countdown.

Freaking Rayner already showed up in Countdown and if you're following Sinestro Corps War that makes no sense at all.....

Yeah, that was kinda weird.

I think we all knew Rayner would eventually return to normal... but the fact that they show it kinda indicates that this whole thing might not end up being such a big deal even though the big time players involved should indicate otherwise.

I thought they announced Rayner's appearances in Countdown occurring before the Sinestro Corps War.

Thanks for all the info guys. I was just thinking that I was surprised that this was not a big event and basically isolated to the GL books. In a way is goo because you aren't forced to buy everything.

Sounds like a fun read. I might get the trades.

Some before, some after. I'm kind of glad that they didn't waste the energy in telling us that Kyle was going to be Parallax FOREVER and we're upfront about this being a temporary thing.

Also, Sinestro Corps War is just fantastic. Ditto to whomever suggested that this, not the lackluster Amazons Attack, should have been DC's big summer even - on par with World War Hulk.

Some would say Amazons Attack WAS on a par with WWH....Lackluster :D

What I think World War Hulk has over Amazons Attack is that it was built up longer and more believably. Hulk was exiled for a year, some crazy !@#$ went down, and he came back even more pissed off at Earth's superheroes. He may have been acting insane compared to the old Hulk, but the build up made it believable. Amazons Attack came out of the gate swinging, but with nothing to back it up, and ended with, from what I hear, an unsurprising but still ridiculously unbelievable explanation.
