Okay, so I want to get into this story.

I have the Illuminati special that started it all, and I just ordered the Planet Hulk hardcover online.

Whats next? Any other important preludes(besides the WWH prelude issue itself)?

Once I get right into the mini, what tie-ins are important? Are there any important plot developments or character development of the main cast in other books(like in Civil War)? For example: is Hulk's own book important to understanding the character in the WWH mini-series?

Or is the mini itself pretty self-contained?

Even if there are no tie-ins that are important to the core story in the mini, are there any that are just plain really good and worth buying anyway?

Any answers and opinions I can get would be great.

The only required books are World War Hulk, and to a lesser extant, Incredible Hulk.

She-Hulk: Planet Without A Hulk isn't required (that story is recapped in Incredible Hulk).

The mini is fairly self-contained although Incredible Hulk does fill-in some things you may have wondered about.

The other tie-ins range in quality and are definitely not needed. WWH: X-Men is good so you should think about picking that one up. It's basically three issues of Hulk taking on the various X-related characters and beating them up.

Don't forget WWH:Frontline also but I would say it's kind of late to be getting into the book now

I would go with what Kevinroc Said, but I would also add in Iron Man because we may see a plot that was develop in the tie-in in the main series as well. :D

I would also recommend Gamma corps if you want to see how the Hulk's attacks have touched peoples lives over the years. :D

If you're a fan of the Warbound then you may like the Heroes for Hire tie-ins and possible the Frontline back up stories.

Any of these stories are fine to get.
