Got myself the Labyrinth DVD thsi week and it was fun watching it with my nieces and seeing it again through their eyes.

Still has a certain 80s charm, Jennifer as great as always and David Bowie is David Bowie. ^_^
Itīs probably one of my 5 favorite teen movies (as in movies I watched when I was in my teens and still remember fondly). despite its somewhat dated SFX.

However....
Watching it through my adult (and a bit cynic) eyes, I couldnīt help feeling that Sarah has some serious issues.

Girl seems to have frozen in time, at her age she shouldnīt be wishing the Goblin King would come and take her baby brother (poor Toby) or live surrounded by toys.

Am I the only oen who thinks the Sarah role should have been written for a 8-10 years old?

P.S.: ooops, just reminded thereīs a bonus DVD. Maybe thereīs a making of in there, love that behinds the scenne stuff... ^_^

I do think that Jennifer Connely looked older than her character, but everything else about the film seemed spot on. As I have come to notice, most people between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five still think they're eighteen or younger.

And no matter what -- in my eyes, it's a good frickin' movie. I miss Jim Henson so damn much.

Bowie being 30 and her being 14 at the time of shooting was odd enough with the way it was written

I bought the regular disc 2 years ago and watched it 6 times in 2 days and have watched it plenty times sense. oddly enough I had the urge to watch it again last night but went to a comedy show instead.

Labyrinth is one of my all time favorite movies. I just bought the original illustrated poster to put up in my dorm room.

Watching it through my adult (and a bit cynic) eyes, I couldn´t help feeling that Sarah has some serious issues.

Girl seems to have frozen in time, at her age she shouldn´t be wishing the Goblin King would come and take her baby brother (poor Toby) or live surrounded by toys.

That was the point--Sarah had to outgrow toys and playacting and begin to take on adult responsibility, such as looking after her baby brother. (Hence the scene where she realizes all her toys and costumes are "junk" that she has to leave behind.) Her character progression wouldn't have worked as well if she had been played by an actual child.

I'm glad she didn't kill the Goblin King in the finished film. He was a great character. (And nothing could kill that hair!)

If Michael Jackson had been cast...wow. Labyrinth could have been the greatest unintentional comedy of the century.

A friend of a friend is a huge fan of it. She even did a costume based on Sarah's gown.

Hurm. That kinda makes me think why that friend likes it. She's into that whole lolita / gothic lolita trend.

Good God, the Making of has so many behind-the-scennes stuff I can never tell what Iīll find out next. Itīs amazing to see their minds at work, this is creativity at its purest form.

I was watching the choreography for Sarahīs ballroom scenne when the choreographer starts talking. Her nameīs Cheryl McFadden and she reminds me terribly of Dr. Beverly Crusher from the Star Trek show.
So I hit IMDB and found out Dr, Crusher is the part of a Gates McFadden.
Are they sisters or something?
How small theworld is....

Anyway, hats off to Jennifer Connelly, that girlīs a tough cookie, doing certain parts without a stuntwoman.
Some of them freak me out now, let alone when I was 14....

Edit: Disregard my lat, Wikipedia confirmed what I started suspecting the more I saw the "Making of". Cheryl and Gates are the same person, she just uses one name when she wants to be credited as an actress and the other when she wants to be credited as a choreographer.

That's an old favorite of mine too. David Bowie's codpiece was magnificent...and a bit distracting.

There is definityl a coming of age thing to it. Sarah seems a little emotionalyl stunted, probably from losing her mother. Her mother, an actress, ran off with another man, the man she ran off with was a fellow actor who was the model for Sarah's image of the Goblin King (this can be inferred by watching the first pan across Sarah's bedroom very carefully. Several photos and the scrapbook tell the story).

THere's also an element of sex in there, and how the sexy world of encroachign adulthood can be frightening. The horriffic ballroom scene, where the enchanting and fascinating world of grown-ups is recast to be both dreamy and oddly nightmarish is a fine example.

Sarah is afraid of the Goblin King, but I think she also has some confusing feelings towards him.
