An aspect that is rarely seen or even explored in the Marvel Universe or even in any comic book universe are the parents of super-villains. Like the title of the thread said, what were the parents of these super-villains like ? Didn't they recognize the symptoms of violence in their own children ?
Even after their children became super-villains, did their parents try to examine their child's life like from conception to the terrible acts of violence which made them into a super-villain ? Are the parents guilt-ridden or not ? Do they torture themselves ?
What do you guys think goes on or went on these parents minds ?

Creed's parents kept him chained up in a basement and threw raw meat down to him on occasion.

Magneto's parents died in Auschwitz. They might've been crap parents, might've been incredible parents, but I think the fact the Nazis off'd them made a bigger impression on him than anything they did personally.
Apocalypse was abandoned as a baby. He was found and adopted by Baal, the warlord of a nomadic tribe, who raised him to be an angsty young man with six-pack abs who was good in a melee. Probably an excellent father by the standards of the day. Young Apocalypse was torn up pretty badly by Baal's death.
About the only thing we know about Kang's parents is that they were almost bankrupted by an extended stay in the hospital he went through when he was fifteen. Even in the future paying for medical care is almost worse than dying.
Red Skull's father was an ignorant, alcoholic German peasant and his mother was equally ignorant, but "saintly" and kind. She died giving birth to him, and his father went insane and dried to drown baby Johann. He was saved by a doctor, and the next day his father committed suicide. Johann grew up in a succession of orphanages. This backstory explains a lot of his problems: besides possibly inheriting mental instability from his father, I doubt Johann was ever properly socialized in those orphanages -- at best, benign neglect, and at worst, outright abuse.

Erik Josten (a.k.a. Atlas a.k.a. Goliath a.k.a. the Smuggler a.k.a. Power Man) seemed to have pretty decent parents who were deeply ashamed of their son's criminal actions.

Been a LONG time since I read the story but the Rhino seemed to have a pretty nice mother.
Constrictor's mother and sister were killed by the mother's abusive common-law husband when Constrictor was 15. Whether or not the man (McAvey) was Constrictor's real dad or common-law stepfather is unknown.

Doom's mama is a gypsy woman rotting in hell.
He tried to save her, but was disfigured.
and it's all Reed's Fault.

Doom's parents didn't seem that bad. Yes, his mother went to Hell but it's a kind of sad story really; she was a fairly normal, kind woman who became desperate to protect her family and so dabbled in the wrong arts and condemned herself because of it. And his father was also a kind man, one who died himself so his son could live.
But they both had HUGE impacts on him, more from their deaths than from their lives.

Well half the time we don't see their parents (many super villains don't have families, I mean how many are married?) and when we do they are often abusive psychopaths. There are only a few exceptions, we saw Blacklash's parents and they disowned him because of his criminal ways, so I don't they were abusive.

Well, I remember Sandman was a real momma's boy and he actually went "straight" because of her dying wish IIRC.

Wrecker's dad was an abusive construction worker. Apparently, Wrecker got a kick out of trashing buildings 'cause he saw it as getting back at his dad.

Eddie Brock's father disowned him, and I believe his mother died from cancer.
Cletus Kassidy, I believe killed his grandmother(possibly his parents too).

Norman Osborn's father was an abusive, degrading drunk who's business was failing.
I've got to do some research on Gobby's mother.

Kraven hated his father for marrying a servant girl after his mother died. He ran away shortly after his half-brother, Cameleon, was born.
Cameleon on the other hand was disliked by both his parents due to the samefulness of his birth. Kraven was the only one who would even acknowledge him. This is why he learned to assume the identities of others.

I just remembered some flashbacks to Kingpin's childhood in the Parts of a Hole storyline. His parents were hard working, but desperately poor. IIRC, they argued a great deal. He grew up obsessed with money, and taunted by the other children for his size.
I believe there's been a couple of conflicting accounts of Doctor Octopus' childhood. I think one story showed he was raised by a single mother, and in another he had a father and a mother.

Moonstone's father was a butler to movie star. He seemed to be a decent fellow, but Moonstone became obsessed with the world of wealth that she saw around her but that she was not a part of.

The parents of Jerome Beecham - the Mandrill, and the parents of Nekra Sinclair - Nekra, were similar in their abominable parenting skills where their children were concerned. Disgusted by the physical appearances of their children, both sets of parents drove their children from their homes.
The two young mutants discovered each other in the desert and a la Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen, helped each other to survive until while together - a la Cloak and Dagger - a threat to both of them caused their mutant powers to activate.

I wonder what would happen if Magneto was able to talk to his parents and older sister about the choices he's made in the name of mutantkind..would they be approving? Would make a good What If story.

that story would end with Erik renouncing his human family; accepting that they had to die for him to save mutantkind. it's how his mind works. he would be depressed if there was nothing to crusade against.

Vision's dad was someone who always kind of wanted to rule the world and wipe out humanity from the face of this Earth.

Whiplash seemed close to his mother. After all, when the Scourge was going around killing villains, Whiplash was saving up enough money from his robberies for his mother (who I assume is poor and/or too ill to work herself) to have after he had died. It's kinda sad, actually.
Speaking of Scourge, after Death Adder had died, Black Mamba told his family that he had been murdered and they were pretty upset. Shows they cared about their son, at least.
Titania's parents ignored her and probably despised her for being so tiny and pathetic. I'm sure that's a contributing factor in why she hates people so much, since she had no friends (aside from fellow outcast Volcana) and her parents wouldn't give her the time of day.
Mainly I think most villains come from families like Titania's who ignore them or beat them. It's really nice to get an insight into villains and how they were when they were younger, though... it's a wonder villains aren't more popular than heroes since they seem to have more tragic backstories.

Going off of the Spider-Man Unlimited #3 origin, Doc Ock had a turbulent upbringing. Abusive father who was violent towards him as well as his mother. And after his death, he began his obsession with physical science. Eventually, Otto's mother became virtually dependant on him, which in effect caused him to break off an engagement made a short time before. And it got even worse .. after discovering that his mother had begun dating a librarian, he rebuked her actions as well as reasoning thus causing her to have a fatal heart attack in the heat of their argument.

I am not so sure anymore. I think he would be angsty for a long time, then move on, Mags is always questioning himself and his motives these days

Cap's parents were actually Irish immigrants, and they led typical Depression era lives, and eventually both died when Steve was still young.
