Some time ago someone on the comixfan forum pointed out something i haven't really thought about which is odd since it involves my favorit character.

Okay lets get to the question. How are we supposed to interpret Marrows voice?

I don't mean her voice in the two video games which she apeared in (Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and X-men Legends).

What i mean is the fact that her words are put in a different font, which like different colored speaking bubbles (ala. Deadpool or Agent X) always indicates a distinctive different voice than that of normal characters.

Okay i think we all noticed that during her apearance in the last X-factor arc her fonts have been different, but after Alan Lynch on Comixfanforum pointed out that her fonts have always been different, i went and checked some of these comics from 1998 and he was right! Whey where infact different (not as clearly as in the X-factor arc, but still differnt).

I noticed that there are at least two different kind of shapes her letters been showed with.
The first one which was prominetly used for her during her time as X-men (even after she got prettified) where letters that looked only a little bit edgy but keept changing in shape as if some are bigger and some are thinner.

The other kind was shown in X-factor where her letters where simply thin and edgy.

So now i wonder how are we supposed to interpret Marrows voice?

I think of it as gritty, gravely. The font they used when she was on x-men was definitely rough around the edges. They sometimes used that for Wolvering in some books.

I use graggily, even though that's not a word.

Gravely probably works better for everyone else.

I'd say for me, her voice would be similar to Beast Boy's voice in the Teen Titans cartoon.

Imagine that your having a conversation on the phone. Your chatting away, enjoying life, not really expecting anything to go wrong at that point. All of a sudden Mr. Ed, the horse, comes up beyond you and puts his gaint horse dick in your butt. The sound that comes out of your mouth, following the horsefucking, is what Marrow's voice sounds like on a good day.

I never said that at all. I figured I'd try and describe her voice in another way besides "gritty".

Okay, good to know. It was just that your discreption... well to follow such an describtion you need a lack of graphic imigination.

How about Phyllis Diller, Joan Rivers or Fran Drescher... If you want annoying, those are it.

Right, they used it for Wolverine a lot. And in Loeb's Wolverine arc, I think everyone had that awful lettering. It's a nuisance to read, really.

I think she sounds like P!NK.

Pretty much, yeah.

I never thought much of the different font they were using in Marrow's speech bubbles, but -speaking from my Saturday-morning-cartoon-watching experience- Marrow started out looking a bit more 'deformed', and those characters SOMETIMES have distorted voices as well. So maybe she was supposed to have a 'double' voice, like some robots or demons have.

Yeah, I remember that was the era where it seemed like every third Marvel character got a special font or speech-bubble design (Wolverine, Marrow, Thing, Deadpool, Human Torch, Vision, Iron Man, etc.). Although if I'm remembering correctly, one of the characters who DIDN'T get special font/bubble treatment at that time was Jean Grey as Phoenix, who way back in the early days was one of the ONLY characters who got special treatment.
