Is that the Babba Yagga I see? Definitely looking forward to that one!

Hellboy comes to the crossroads in Enigma, Georgia, a small town plagued by strange occurrences. Sent to keep an eye on Sarah Nail, a young girl hiding from the curse of her family, Hellboy becomes entangled in the blood debt of evil mystical preacher, Brother Jester. Stuck between human malice and the mysteries of the occult, Hellboy comes up against an intrigue of ghosts, demon trees, talking bullfrogs, and a race of lost mutant children.

I honestly look forward to these posts where new Hellboy universe covers are pointed out to the rest of us, so never forget how valuable this service is to those of us who don't like to go searching for it. In other words, thank you!

And how cool is this issue blurb from LJ #4: "With his allies dead, the Lobster must fight his way through a mutated menagerie of mystical and scientific abominations to stop the sinister machinations of his mysterious adversary."

Folks, it doesn't get better than this!!

That. Jaguar monster. is. sooo. cooool. Like wow. Suddenly theories about werejaguar daimio seem much more plausible. Could that monster be a hybrid between daryll and something else?

And how cool is this issue blurb from LJ #4:

Actually, I'd prefer if solicitations didn't include major spoilers of plotlines. How much information does a retailer need when it's #4 of a limited series? Just as the Lobster's cast of characters was opening up, it seems to be shut down again. I don't have a problem with that plot twist but it would've been cool to have the impact and surprise within the story.

I have no problem with page previews that are posted right before the comic comes out. It gets fans excited and the comic comes out in a week or two. But what purpose does blowing a major story point serve when #1 has just come out? Seems more like a sales negative.

I agree, Tad... It's good to be teased along a bit, but saying AFTER THE DEATH OF BELOVED CHARACTER, SO AND SO MUST SOLDIER ON is a bit much.

I'm mega-excited for all of these books, though. I don't think I've ever enjoyed comics as much as I do now.

Gosh, I'm sorry Tad. I should have marked that a spoiler item when I posted it here. I just see so much of this sort of thing these days that I didn't even register it as a spoiler. I figure between now and when the issue actually comes out I'll forget the blurb details anyway. I just thought it was really interesting sounding. :o

Just as the Lobster's cast of characters was opening up, it seems to be shut down again.

Not 100% sure about this, but it may be down to interpretation of the blurb - I read it as "allies" who Lobster may meet on the way, not the team he already has, because at least one of those team members is alive in later Lobster stories (blonde hair guy with glasses) - so if they are counted as his allies then they can't all be dead. But that's just the way I read it.

But I totally agree with spoilers in blurbs, it's getting like film trailers too - way too much revealed, and I know there is the case of "don't read if you don't want to know", but I think anyone collecting a series from issue 2 onwards really doesn't need to know the inside contents in a preview.

Like the current Star Wars line, Hellboy is just going from strength to strength, some brilliant comics coming out right now.

I think they mean his Allies (pronounced "al-ees"), the name of the gang of street urchins who pop up for one page in issue #3. No big loss.

Our Gang photoshop here.]

The name is a tribute to Scott Allie! :D

Cool! $12.95? So does that mean we're back to the trade paperback size of the earlier Hellboy novels and no longer the mass market editions Pocket Books was putting out? If so, I hope DH reprints the PB novels in that size to match.

^^ it measures 5 1/4" by 8 inches so its like the earlier DH PB's, just a bit smaller.

It could be one of those deals where we're meant to think Lobsters gang is dead but they're really just incapacitated off screen somewhere.

Gah! Big books! I hate those large "college size" novels. They're a pain in the butt to carry around. They don't fit in my back pocket! Ah well :(

I like the larger format size from the days of Bones of Giants, Lost Army, et. al. myself, and I'm glad to hear it's being published in the larger format. Also, I really like the cover layout, where HELLBOY is unmistakeble on the cover.

And that is exactly why I prefer larger books. Not that they don't fit in your back pocket, but because it showcases the art in a larger size and a better binding that will last for years. I reallyreallyreallyreallyreally do NOT like the trend towards the digest/manga-sized TPB. I'm not a teenager on the Tokyo subway that has to fit a book in a tiny backpack and buys a book that is designed to be read and thrown away.

I want a book that you could hit a rhinoceros in the head with and be guaranteed in causing a concussion.

OH no no. When it comes to Graphic novels I hate the digest sizes as well. In fact that's the sole reason I haven't checked out the animated Hellboy Books.

However when it comes to regular ole readin' books I like them as either big ole hard backs or standard size paperbacks. I don't like the weird large size paper backs.

I'm strange I know. My only reasoning is that I like to bring books I'm reading into work and I tuck em into my back pocket to avoid the "Hey watcha rea....Hellboy? What are you a devil worshipper!?" Despite the fact that I've worked next to the same people for five years it's always the same "He reads that devil worshipping DnD stuff". I hate my co-workers :D

I would never bring a graphic novel to work so full size is a-ok (and prefered) with those. Plus I despise the whole anime/manga movement....but that's another issue.

I like the bigger size PB's since my peepers are failing me, and I don't have to use my reading glasses for them, yet.

Emerald Hell has hit the comic shops today - and it's the red title version.

no Mignola art inside though, other than the cool little skull at each chapter header
