Give it a try. Be sure to rate your results to give the researchers feedback about the accuracy, then click through to the final link explaining the Forer Effect. I think that it's pretty interesting.

The following is a description of people of the GLXA personality:
You have a need for other people to like and admire you, and yet you tend to be critical of yourself. While you have some personality weaknesses you are generally able to compensate for them.
You have considerable unused capacity that you have not turned to your advantage. Disciplined and self-controlled on the outside, you tend to be worrisome and insecure on the inside. At times you have serious doubts as to whether you have made the right decision or done the right thing.
You prefer a certain amount of change and variety and become dissatisfied when hemmed in by restrictions and limitations. You also pride yourself as an independent thinker; and do not accept others' statements without satisfactory proof. But you have found it unwise to be too frank in revealing yourself to others.
At times you are extroverted, affable, and sociable, while at other times you are introverted, wary, and reserved. Some of your aspirations tend to be rather unrealistic.
interesting, fairly accurate.

I liked how it repeated the same question five times, but worded differently. I answered differently each time. The description is about half right.

Yeah, the second part of the test was practically all the same types of questions. Very general, but deliberate, and I found myself giving what could be perceived as contradictory answers.

So far, all four of us got the exact same outcome, which by the was is as broad an outcome as you could expect from a test like this, but with different letter combinations. I detect an angle here. I'd rate it a three, because I agree with some of its assessments, but in reality, this could be applied to practically anyone.

Ah! And upon reading the link after the test, this is totally fucking hilarious. I was honestly considering giving it another go with wildly different answers just to see if it'd be the same. Good stuff, Shell.

Oh. Good. Glad I gave it a "0."
Although if it had said the reverse: You don't need to be liked and admired and you are not highly critical of yourself" it woulda got a "5."
So this is a "How Astrology Works" type thing?

Oh. Nice. Didn't even see that.
On the other hand this whole experiment is kind of common sensical.
If you make a statement that accurately describes large groups of people, obviously many people will think the statement accurately describes them.

I took the test. Rated it a four, then looked at other peoples responses.
I was going to gage what the differences were then saw there were none, except for the random letters that made up our personality types.
Very interesting test.
Now I rate it a five, because it shows that...
We're not so different you and I. :p

When I took the test, I read the description and thought, "A lot of that could apply to anybody. And some of it doesn't sound like me at all." So I rated it on the low side. Which meant I didn't feel too dumb when I read about the Forer Effect.

well, these tests can only tell you back what you told it, but rephrase it for generality purposes. but sometimes you get to be venom or pikachu or magneto! and being told that your just like a sociopathic mutant is fun.
but apparently everyone thinks they have a full range of emotions and are critical of themselves... i don't think i have any friends who don't and aren't.
