I figure there has to be at least one other muslim member :)

"Oh you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you many learn piety and rightousness" (Qur'an, al-Baqarah, 2:183)

Abu Umamah r.a.a. said: I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, tell me of an action by which I may enter Paradise'. He said: 'Take to Fasting, there is nothing like it.' [An-Nasa'i, Ibn Hibban, Al-Hakim, Sahih]

Maghrib just came in over here in the the Netherlands so Ramadan Mubarak to those of who are fasting this month.

May Allah Ta`ala make this month beneficial for us and may He accept our fasts and prayers, Amin!

Ramadan Mubarak!

This time of year always reminds me of my best friend/neighbor in high school; she was from a Muslim Indian family. I think I'll shoot her an email to wish her a blessed Ramadan. Come to think of it, this'll be her & her husband's first one together since their wedding.

A mate of mine converted to Islam late in 2005, so last year was his first Ramadan. He went through utter agony & is trying to avoid doing things like sitting with people eating and drooling as he did last year.

Tell him it really does get easier over time.

One of my best mates is doing it as we speak...

I idly considered doing it with him this year, as i have done every year since we started living together. Ah well, there's always next year!:o

He's always fine with it until about the last week; by then he's generally pretty pale and failed. Have to hand it to you folks, though. It's a tough one.

Ramadan Karim

You found the other one.
As for it getting easier, in a few year Ramadan will fall in July.
that's like 4am til 9:30pm
in the heat, no water.

but we call ourselves believers, we'll be tested.
May our fasting be accepted.

great now I'm thinking of chocolate and saying mmm.

but really, I've been doing this since I was 12.
It's hard sometimes but what's life without sacrifice.
Some people don't have the good fortune to only limit their hunger to one month. Some people can't break their fast when the sunsets, and just have a meal when they can afford it or when someone feels like being generous.
Fasting is a service to the most high, and it's a humbling activity that helps me sympathize with those less fortunate helping me to be more giving.

continue with your taunting if it makes you feel good about yourselves.
:D

So when do you get to eat or drink when fasting?
After sun goes down or some such?

Just wanted to say that despite being an atheist, it's nice to see piety. I'm not really sure what it is about it that I find appealing.

Hope you guys find what you're looking for during this month.

In other news, I've a Muslim friend who's a chef in a hotel in Manila. He gets to taste his food, but not eat it. Then, since he's the executive chef, he's got to stay till ~ 9pm.

Torturous.

Torturous.haha yea that does suck. but since he's statying till 9 he probably gets to eat all that stuff he tasted for free once the sun's come down.
