Which is better justice league or justice league unlimited? Because unlimited is far cheaper to buy than the original series!

Well, Unlimited built upon what was in the previous series. Pretty much season 1 & 2 were Justice League then 3 & 3 1/2 were JLU. Though it's not fully connected. It all kinda blurs together into one show for me, so I could be wrong. Still, JLU was fun as it had a more diverse cast of charcters than the first series. Plus it had Question and Huntress. Which is about the only place to get that after DC dropped the ball and never let Simone and Rucka do that in the DCU proper.

JL episodes are an hour each and JLU episodes are a half-hour each. Apart from the cast, that's really the only difference. It was a remarkably consistent show.

Both had their good & bad shows. Really, I say eventually get them all.
But, I would suggest getting JLU over the earlier seasons because the storylines are more intricate and the cast is far more grand.
Later, when you have more extra cash on you, get the earlier seasons.....Then get Superman The Animated Series (Season 3).......It was the best & most consistent out of the 3 Superman seasons, and had some elements which are built upon later in JLU.

JL episodes are an hour each and JLU episodes are a half-hour each.
When JL was originally aired, those one hour shows were split in two....Which could make for irritating programming if someone's watching the shows on Boomerang as re-runs.

Did anyone notice the latter episodes of jlu before it was announced that it was cancelled seemed to veer more towards action and the characterization seemed to be put aside for most of the time?

JLU is far superior.
Justice League suffered, first and foremost, from a serious pacing issue; the decision to make every episode (except for one) a two-parter resulted in almost every story suffering from some degree of pacing problems, even the really good ones. It also disallowed the kind of neat small stories that make the other DCAU shows so good. The switch to 30 minutes, with the option to do multi-parters when necessary, was a major improvement. The stories on JLU generally had better pacing, and were much more diverse; instead of almost all big epics, we got little character pieces, pure farce, journeys to little-seen parts of the DC Universe, and spotlights for numerous lesser-known characters.
Almost all of the really interesting character stuff happened in JLU, albeit building off of stuff set up earlier; the entire Cadmus storyline is a great study of Superman, building off both "A Better World" and his own series' aborted stories; they finally really get Wonder Woman right (although they'd also done that in a lot of JL season two); Hawkgirl's story post-Starcrossed is great (although I think she was let back into the League's executive committee way too easily); the Flash gets pretty much all of his best moments, including the two great spotlight shows in the final season. The Martian Manhunter, perhaps, was downgraded, but I was honestly never that interested in him, and the small story he had in the final season was probably his most enjoyable story in the whole show.
All the new characters added an incredible variety and depth to the show, and relate to one of my favourite parts of JLU: selecting a group of characters to tell a specific story, rather than always bringing the same team (minus one or two members on occasion). We got about a half-dozen really memorable Leaguers, and many other enjoyable cameos.

If I could only buy one, I'd go with season 3 of JLU.

JLU. The Cadmus plot was fantastic and deep, even if it veered off a bit at the end, and was genuinely thought provoking. We got many more heroes, more complex plotlines, BETTER plotlines, more development. There was some great Legion of Doom stuff in the last series (That all villain versus villain episode was AWESOME) and the final battle of the show is just the best fight in the DCAU. Not to mention the Flash's greatest onscreen moment ever at the end of the second series.

If you can only afford one, get the first season of JLU. But definately work on getting all of them as they are some of the best shows ever.

Yeah, they pretty much expected the 1st JLU season to be the end of the whole series. I think Bruce Timm has said that they just went nuts and put as much in that season as possible, to play with as many DC toys as possible before the end.
So when they were (surprisingly) renewed by CN.....they just went even more nuts with the Legion of Doom stuff in the 2nd season.

Which series had the episode with Joker taking over television and the superheroes disarming multiple bombs in the city?

Justice League season 2. My favorite seasons are JL season 2 and JLU 1-2 (volume 1). That's where the story-telling is tightest overall. Justice League season 2 has some great stuff, like Amazo, Grodd starting the secret society, Star-crossed, and Joker rigging up bombs all over Vegas to get the Justice League to disarm them all. That was a favorite of mine because it showed that when he wants to Joker isn't just a bad guy who can screw with Batman, he can actually make life crappy for the whole League, too.
Then there's the whole Cadmus arc, which builds on the "Better World" story line from season 2. Easily the coolest run of superhero stories in cartoons ever, those two DVD collections.

JLU was freakishly better.

JLU had more characters, and lots of writers you might like from comics. JL is good, so there's no wrong option here. but JLU has more conspiracies, and battles and focuses on lots of characters. good amounts of green arrow, the question, black canary, huntress, and supergirl. so if you like them...

I'd say ya got to get them both.
But, JLU had the Batman Beyond tie-in, which was my favorite episode out of both series.

JLU had the Booster Gold spotlight episode. If that isn't enough to make it must buy I don't know what it. Plus you had awesome showings by guys like Captain Atom, Green Arrow, Black Canary, the Question, and others. Add into all that the shere amount of great DCU villains and it is by far the best choice.

JLU seemed a bit more adult-oriented, and was better off for it.

The whole thing was great, but as a Superman fan I'd say JLU over JL. He goes from getting knocked out by a freakin' depth charge in JL to going toe-to-toe with Darkseid in JLU.

He first goes toe to toe with Darkseid in JL Vol. 2 and while its not quite the grand fight scenes we get later in JLU, its still seriously cool. Its even cooler if you've just seen the ending of the Superman animated series and then watch it.

That was a fight that could have gone on longer, for sure. It was one of the few times as a Batman fan where I found myself saying, "No Bats, let Supes kill the guy." Of course there was a logical reason to not let that happen which made the punch at the end of the series all the more gratifying. I wasn't really a fan of Superman before STAS, JL, and JLU but that crew really figured out how to get me to like a character I swore I'd never find cool.

I liked the smaller cast(more Batman) of JL because other than Green Arrow and The Question, I really didn't care about all the other heroes.
However, JLU has the Cadmus plot that other people alluded to which I believe was the greatest story arc in the DCAU. And I can't get enough of Amanda Waller butting heads with Batman.
Not to mention the four parter of Question Authority, Flashpoint, Panic in the Sky, and Divided We Fall, was like a mini movie that pretty much TRUMPS all of DC(and maybe even Marvels) attempts at the big screen.

So when Superman got really, really, really mad and punched Darksied through about a half-dozen skyscrapers, he used his X-Ray vision and his power of Super Billiard English to make sure that Darksied only smashed through empty floors and abandoned buildings, so no innocent secretaries sitting at their desks got turned into pink mist, right? And the Shore Patrol picked up the rest, right? Right!?!?!

Yup.
Just like when the Hulk goes on a rampage and only tears through abandoned buildings and no one dies.

Not to mention the best screen adaption of an Alan Moore story to date in "For the Man Who Has Everything". "BURN!"

Skip the first Justice League season set, it's not very good. Buy the second season, and both JLU sets. They're all great.

Amy Acker as Huntress and Jeffrey Combs were both pretty awesome. I figured with a cast as big as JLU there had to be two capes dating that managed to get the relationship to work ... I just never expected it to be those two.
Season 1 of Justice League wasn't bad, though. I'd just say that it also was incontestably not awesome compared to season 2 and JLU but I'm also not sure that's completely fair.

The best selling points, IMO, for Justice League Unlimited are:
1. The Question kicking ass and taking names.
2. The added closure to Batman Beyond in Epilogue.
3. The Question and Huntress teaming up and fighting Black Canary and Green Arrow.
4. The Justice Lords.
5. The Question conspiracy theorizin' with sinister aglets and spy sattelite fluoride and the Illuminati mystics' magic bullet and 32 Baskin-Robbins flavors.
6. Legion of Doom Unlimited VS Justice League Unlimited.
7. The Question running over Parademons with his car.
8. Flash cutting loose in Divided We Fall, Superman cutting loose in Destroyer.
9. The Question totally acting like Rorschach in so many obvious bits.
10. The Once and Future Thing, Parts 1 & 2.
Did I forget to mention any episode with the Question is pure gold?

True, there are simply no bad episodes where Q appears. I like that even Batman concedes Q is wound a little too tightly. Coming from Bruce after a decade of DCAU that really is saying something, which makes it all the funnier that Q gets a girlfriend and Bats doesn't.

JLU earlier stories I thought was a bit rushed. I was more used to JL two episode arcs. But when the Cadmus story line started to get interesting, it really kicked ass. I really like the way the set it up from the beginning and all, and the way it tied up to Batman Beyond.
Favorite JLU eps are Booster Gold's Greatest Story Never Told. It even have Jeremy Piven as Elongated Man!.
