Hey guys...as you all know, the fourth season of Stargate: Atlantis premieres Friday, Sept. 28th at 10/9C on Sci-Fi. We fans really need to band together and watch it LIVE. I heard that ratings need to go up for this show. All of us would like to see a fifth season – and beyond. I’ll be at home that night watching. Let’s make it Official Watch It Live Day.

You can do scripted sci-fi dramas live now? Wow. How do they manage to get the FX work in?

I'm gonna downloaded.
1) Not getting that channel and
2) not being a Neilson family
means it doesn't matter if I watch it or not.

Unless you're a Nielson member watching it 'live', 'taped', or its 2nd showing of the night isn't going to make one bit of difference to the ratings. Unless you hijack a couple of thousand ratings boxes or diaries.
I wonder if the chances of it making to a 5th season are going to be better because Sci-Fi hasn't exactly done great lately in its other shows.
Dresden wasn't renewed. Painkiller Jane isn't gettin renewed. Flash Gordon is dull and I think the ratings aren't doing great. Dr Who will be taking a break in 2009 and only doing a few specials. It looks like they're going to stretch BSG out to 2009.

I'm pretty sure the "Stretching BSG out to 2009" is a joke that was taken as gospel truth for some reason. From my understanding it came from an offhand comment by one of the stars at SDCC, and said star (I think it was Jamie Bamber/Apollo) was actually deadpanning/making a joke about the "hiatus" complaints.
As for Atlantis' hopes for getting renewed being better because of the suckitude of recent Sci-Fi shows....in a logical world, yes that would be the case. While Atlantis isn't SG-1, it's vastly more entertaining than Flash Gordon, Painkiller Jane, or Dresden Files, and while it might not pull in the numberes that Sci-Fi "wants" it still has to be one of their best-rated shows. Thus logic would say you stick with what's working and try to build on that. Instead Sci-Fi's answer seems to be "cancel all the good stuff because it's too expensive, and crank out a horde of crappy series until one of them sticks...even if they never do."
I mean seriously, did it cost less to produce one season of PKJ, Dresden, and Flash Gordon (22 Episodes I might add, and I doubt it's going to get a second season) combined than it would have to do one more season of SG-1 or even Galactica? When is Sci-Fi going to figure out that their viewers aren't going to just watch any old (or new as the case may be) crap that they throw at the wall? The last decent show Sci-Fi has put out was "Eureka."
