View Full Version : Should Milestone be one of the 52?

I was thinking about this the other day. All those great Milestone characters are trapped out in limbo. Does anyone think they should be brought back as one of the 52 Earths? I would love to see more appearances of Hardware and Static.

If DC could do it, they would. There are a number of legal issues to get around first. But Dwayne McDuffie IS working with DC right now so there's hope that these legal issues can be overcome and the Milestone characters can appear again.

I think that Milestone could work as one of the other Earths. I think including them on New Earth could be interesting too.

It'd be cool if it was one of the 52, but I'd much rather see Static somehow end up on the Titans. Quite a few people have been begging for that.

I doubt we'd ever see the Milestone Universe as one of the 52....Unless DC bought the rights, of course.

If Legal issues could be worked out, I couldeitherenjoy Milestone as a seperate universe, or some of the cooler characters incorporated into the DCU. I have some fond memories of some good Milestone comics.

But the guy who had the power to make guns not run out of bullets? He can stay in limbo. ;)

I wouldn't like to see Milestone reduced as a rip-off of New Earth, but I'd surely like to see more interactions with DC's heroes, a status like marvel's earth "We're not part of your multiverse but still we can coexist" would be bette IMHO

What, and miss a Gunfire team-up? :p

He's not in limbo, he died in 1993, because I hate the glorification of guns.

I keep forgetting Dwayne McDuffie is actually a member of CBR. You should post more often, Mister McDuffie! The only time I've seen you comment or clarify on one of your issues was back at FF 544!

I'd love it!

During the hellish reign of woe and despair known as "90's Super-Hero Comics", Millestone and Impact kept my faith in the long-underwear genre of funnybooks alive.

Wow, that is REALLY fascinating.

The death of Tech-9 seemed such a natural part of the "Blood Syndicate" story, and the repercussions of his passing carried on for so long, I'd just assumed it was planned from the start.

I actually was a big fan of the Syndicate and of Tech (or the idea of Tech, as it resonated with so many of the other characters) back then. I recently reread the series and enjoyed it quite a bit.

Tech was actually a great character in spite of his powers. Milestone was playing with so many complex, thought-provoking, "taboo" subjects (and by that I mean taboo for whitebread superhero comics), it might have been interesting to see Tech himself try to come to grips with a firearms issue. I don't know how it could be done naturalistically, considering how many people he'd already shot and left to die at that point...but...maybe if he'd accidentally shot Dogg or something and some vet had to graphically explain what he'd done...he may decide not to use his powers, or try to teach himself to use them more responsibly...or his powers could develop into something else at that point.

Anyway, it's a moot point now, obviously, and if he hadn't died we would't have gotten all those unique points of view from the other characters trying to come to grips with his death...

But, dang, this is really interesting to hear, even almost 15 years later...

It was planned from the start, but that's why I gave him that powerset. The shooting Dogg idea is pretty cool, though.

Not so he died, of course. A world without Dogg is not one I want to live in.

what are the legal issues that keep milestone from being published?

I wish DC would TPB all the books and gauge the fan reaction, because I really do believe that they are a viable property.

They don't own the characters. They have to negotiate with the owners, including Dwayne McDuffie and Denys Cowan, to use them.

Speaking of which , i don't think they ever did collected the milestone/superman universe crossover storyline with that cosmic postman. ;)
Guess even printing a tpb will need to pay a fee to the respective owners of those milestone characters.

I wish we could get some trades too, I have huge gaps in my Hardware and Icon runs. Marvel's finally publishing all its old New Universe stuff, I wanna see some Milestone stuff. Does DC actually have any problems with the Milestone owners or do thay just not feel like doing anything.

I am sure there is more to it than that right? I would think, icon, image or any creator owned publisher would jump at the chance to have the milestone universe.

so if fallen angel, powers and any other property that has moved from one publisher to a new publisher, why can't milestone?

Yeah, this is an issue I'd like to see answered. Why not go to Image?
