Hellboy Forum Holiday Art Exchange 2007

Hello everyone! Are you ready for the fifth annual art exchange? Can you believe we have been doing this for five years already? Most of you are familiar with the exchange but some of you may have not participated and may have a few questions. Please read on.

So what exactly is the exchange?

The exchange is an opportunity for forum members to give and/or receive original Hellboy fan art. That's right, original Hellboy fan art. Each person creates a piece of Hellboy-themed art and will send it to a randomly chosen person who is participating in the exchange. This is an opportunity to be super creative. Please Note: if you are creating your art via electronic means please be prepared to print off a nice original for the person to whom you are sending your art.

If you are suddenly sad because you swear up and down that you just cannot possibly create anything you would want to send to someone or you are just not physically able, that is where the awesomeness of this little community really shines. Several people may create multiple pieces of art to send to those individuals who aren't able to send pieces of their own but would still like to participate in the exchange by receiving a piece of fan art. So don't hesitate to participate. 'Tis a time of giving and friendship!

It is important to remember that you will be sending your art directly to the randomly selected individual whose name you receive. This will require you to pay the postage. Remember that the Hellboy Forum is an international community and therefore may require you to send a package to another country.

Who is eligible to participate?

Registered members of Comic Book Resources Forums as of September 2007 and participants in the Hellboy Forum.

What are the guidelines and how do I sign up?

Each person wanting to participate in the exchange will FIRST need to create a Hellboy/Mignola related piece of art (unless you are not creating a piece of art and wanting to receive only). After your art piece is finished (no "in progress" pieces please), please e-mail the following information to me at "petriacce at hotmail dot com":

a scan/picture of your art piece (please keep it to a width of 450 pixels or less and around 300 to 500 KB.) if you are creating multiple pieces to send to those who are only receiving, please send me a scan/picture for each piece.
your real first and last names / forum name
whether you are giving a piece/pieces of art or want to receive only
e-mail address
mailing address (please include any special mailing instructions if you were to receive a package from outside of your country (i.e. mark as gift, special address format, etc.))
I will send you an e-mail response acknowledging the receipt of your information and I will add your name to the participant list below.

What is the timeline?

Starting a bit early this year due to the expected baby arriving in the middle of the schedule.

06 Sep 2007 - Start working on your piece(s) of art now.
19 Oct 2007 - Final date for submitting a scan/picture of artwork (Midnight PT)
04 Nov 2007 - Final date for me sending you the name and mailing information of the person to whom you are sending your art.
16 Nov 2007 - Final date for mailing your art piece to its intended recipient.
16 Nov 2007 - From this date forward please post on this Art Exchange Thread when you receive your art.

The personal information you supply will not be posted on the forum or shared with anyone other than myself and the person who is randomly selected to send you art. If you are under 18 years of age, please ask your parents if it is okay to participate before signing up. Please don't ask me for other participant's personal information even if your intentions are good. Thanks.

Please note that the Hellboy Forum is an international community and some of you will be sending your art package to another country. Please take that into consideration when estimating the financial impact of participating in the exchange.

Please post any questions you may have on this thread. Note that I will probably have to make changes to the information in this post as we go along for clarification reasons. The bottom of the post will indicate the date of the latest edit. Please review the post occasionally to be aware of any changes.

Ok, finished..i did 2, but i think i will hold one off for something else..2 takeoffs of pictures i had seen elsewhere, one by Alex Ross, the other by Travis Charest, essentially BPRD-ized, and acrylic painted over very crude pencils..

Doesn't look like I'll make it in time for this year.:(
Back and arm are still messed up.I hope it is something that is repairable. You know that you can still sign up to receive art work even if you cannot contribute anything right?

Receiving art might make you happier and speed up the healing process. :)

10-14-2007, 01:11 PM
Thanks, you know I was so fixated on not being able to do anything, that I forgot I could choose only to receive something. That would make me happier!

I'm hoping this back situation is just what they think it is; nerve impingement.
I'll know more when all the test results are in. Not being able to make things for the exchange (or for Halloween) completely sucks. But, on the bright side, there is receiving art!:)

*Edit*
And the verdict is----
2 protruding discs, one of which is pinching a nerve. It sounds fixable, though. I'm just glad to know what's up.

Okay, the exchange is closed and the final list is above.

I still need some of the mailing address details from a couple of you. I'm sending email reminders to those individuals.

I'll get the exchange names to each of you within the next day or so.

Cheers and thanks to everyone for participating this year. A special thank you goes to PsychoFyre for contributing an extra piece!

First off...thanks , Patrick , for your time investment in coordinating this fun event every year !

Secondly, I find it VERY cool that I am giving art to two people who have given to me in past exchanges !! I get to say thanks !

As a side note, I had done three pieces for the Exchange, so in order to even things out, I did a fourth piece so that each of my receivers gets TWO pieces, as well as the original black and white hand drawn art to all the colored stuff.

Sent them off today...one near, one far...

Hope you enjoy !!!
Thanks !!

I sent mine out a week late, BECAUSE I SUCK. Sorry. Ugh, I have been so busy. I'm especially embarrassed since the organizer of our fine exchange managed to get his out just a few days after the first deadline close...

Here's what I got from the fabulous Petriacce:

http://www.phobe.com/hellboardxmas/patri_hb.jpg

It's so sweet, and I love the frame. He also threw in a bunch of nifty Hellboy stuff and a Hellboy card with my favorite pictures from The Corpse on it. Christmas did indeed come early!

Thanks again, petriacce, who I'm sure is busy with the new little one!

No my dear...you do not suck! It is I who sucks because, i wish i was as talented as you are..I received your works of art this week and am still giddy about it.I saw the box and when I saw that it came from you, i got so excited like a little kid on christmas morning.i unwrapped it oh so carefully,to totally savor every moment of it and when i finally opened it it was like Indiana Jones picking up the Incan idol...I have my hands on a true treasure.I have always LOVED the pieces that you've done in the past ... Tad's Right Oven Mit of Doom come to mind.you are truly talented beyond any words that I can type here.Thank you from creating such beautiful pieces of art.I will display them proudly and prominately amongst all my Hellboy pieces.i treasure them and you for giving me such wonderful gifts http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p217/gdeo/newerpix034.jpghttp://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p217/gdeo/newerpix037.jpghttp://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p217/gdeo/newerpix038.jpg
