To begin, a book i bought today: The first tome of Long John Silver, a french serie by Xavier Dorison & Mathieu Lauffray.
The book is 58 pages long and the serie takes place in 1785, "15 years...20 years?" after the end of Stevenson's Treasure Island.
It about a treasure in Amazonian south america, its too about who is really Long John Silver, of the pirate and of the good and of the bad that makes this man. It's about a man at the end of his life. About the moment of truth.

Another french serie, that I'll probably buy soon: Le Sang Du Dragon, by Istin & Michel. It's about Elves & Pirates. 3 volumes have been published so far:

I just ordered a copy of the recent English-language reprint of The Yellow Mark by E.P. Jacobs. Can't wait until it arrives.

Great choice Tim, i love Blake & Mortimer, and The Yellow Mark is one of the best albums of the serie. A very famous album.

One can't go without talking about European comics and NOT mention the incredible 'Sky Doll' by Barbucci and Canepa!

Heavy Metal magazine translated and featured all 3 (!) volumes of 'Sky Doll', and they still have the backissue available. It's nothing short of gorgeous, but be warned: it's not exactly child-friendly.

European comics especially French comics are interesting. Gotta love 'em.

I enjoy the Italian translations of this comic book.

Anyone know of any good translated-into-English editions of Hugo Pratt's Corto Maltese?

They exist - I've got two or three of them. I couldn't tell you if they're good though. The one I've read so far (The Ballad of the Salt Sea) didn't grab me but I assumed that wasn't the fault of the translation.

The Ballad of the Salt Sea is not a "real" Corto Maltese story. It was supposed to be a one-shot thing, but Pratt thought that this Corto Maltese character deserved to be seen again, which is why he gave him his own series. It only gets better from there.

That's good to know. Maybe I'll give the other books I've got a try sometime

I wish Le Sang du Dragon and Long John Silver were in English (or, that I had paid more attention in French class)--the artwork looks incredible though!

Now this is a topic I can get behind! Living in Quebec, I have easy access to all the European comics I could want to read.

Amongst others, I especially love "Les Chroniques de la Lune Noire" (The Black Moon Chronicles), "De Cape et de Croc" (of Cloak and Fang), and the Blacksaad series. Sorry, don't have scans.
