Who are Marvel's really 'out-there' characters? I know of Howard the Duck, Impossible Man, Slapstick and the Great Lakes team. Any others?

Guinan isn't a cosmic being. He's talking about Numinus , a cosmic entity seen in powerpack.

There are other goofy characters like Madcap , Mimic & Obnoxio the clown.

I think you just mentioned Hellcow.
I'll add Rocket Racoon and Dr. Bong.
Team America and the Human Fly were funky in a '70's kinda way.
The whole concept of the Son of Satan is weird. "He's the Anti-Christ! And he fights crime!"
pax.

Ruby Tuesday, with her shape-shifting plastic head.
Scarlet Witch, a crazy reality-shaping mutant who has also studied sorcery.
Hypno Hustler, Marvel's disco villain.
The entire team of Salem's Seven, a group of witches who could transform into super-powered monsters. For example, Hydron, the fishman who can shoot waterblasts from his hands.
Shocker, the mutant with crab claw hands who shoots electrical blasts.
Puck, a Canadian superhero who dressed like a hockey puck. He looked like a dwarf, but was apparently a normal-sized guy who was under a curse.
Either Speedball or Penance, depending on how you look at it.

Cloud. Look him/her up. You'll see what I mean. He/she is pretty much the sunsource of all the questions about Iceman's sexual orientation.

Korrek, the barbarian born from a jar of peanut butter in Man-Thing.

All the Head Men are bizarre. Also, they are sadistic considering Ruby place Chondu's head on an aritficial body. He was mad at them & wanted his body back to the way it was only to find out they dumped it somewhere. Chondu had to get a new body...even if it belonged to a woman! Weird.

Doctor Nagan didn't strike me as that bizarre. Sure, he's a balding guy who got his head grafted onto the body of a gorilla. But I'm sure that Steve Gerber saw plenty of guys who looked like that in New York City, or even on the Jersey Shore.

She-Hulk is definitely one of those "wierd" characters in the pages of her own magazine. Not so much when she is appearing in someone else's book.

You would think an experienced time traveller like Kang or Immortus would have found a way to retcon that story out of existence by now.

Can't. Otherwise, no more Rogue. Too much continuity dependent on it.
Hell, Kang figured out a way to make another one!

If it would jumpstart a creative renaissance across the X-titles, I would be happy to see Rogue retconned out of existence. But she wasn't really tied to Marcus's timeline, she was more (part of) the instrument of Claremont's punishment for the awfulness of Avengers #200. That, plus Claremont always wanted to script some chick beating up Thor. He probably asked to use Thor in Uncanny X-Men #105 and was told no.

I think we're running at about 50% Steve Gerber creations here. Any guess as to what drugs he was on?

MODOK's head isn't misplaced. it's sitting right atop his shoulders; just like everyone else's. maybe Kirby just had a thing for the misshapen.

They're parallel with his mouth. Closer to ears than shoulders. At least on most people's heads.
