Where should the New Jersey team be located at?A city, the Pine Barrens or the Jersey Shore?

They were revealed as the Toxic Avengers and they are a bunch of mutated freaks living in the sludge and toxic waste dump that is known as downtown New Jersey.

the lineup could go either way. i'm not sold on the new Hurricane, just yet. but he's a blank slate and i like his costume/power set. i kind of wanted to use the Rhino (or Sandman or D-Man) as the muscle (instead of Jack of Hearts). i just figured that they could use a "Penance" type character. otherwise, they are a bunch of wise guys to fit the jersey stereotype. Abe, Norbert, and Jim are the Big 3 of the team/most experienced. most of the other guys count as impressionable rookies. my group would operate a lot like the tactical police unit in the tv series 'The Shield.'

the NJ Initive !
WiseGuy (supersmart genuis hero named to lead the team)

ThunderRoad (with superstrong legs that creat shockwaves on the ground)
this team would rock!!!!

If you can bring back anyone, it's the alien guy made up of energy who has died half a dozen times already.
Although personally, I could care less. Never been a fan of the character. Next to guys like Namor, Jack's costume is the one I'm most likely to see in West Hollywood on Halloween. Especially with the arrow pointed at his weiner on his loincloth.

In which case, no. Because he has an irritating personality and an ugly costume.
You know, he might have been less irritating in Avengers if he wasn't constantly saddled with Ant-Man. The two of them together was a bit much. Like Leatherneck and Wetsuit in the old GI Joe cartoons, if both of them were p*ss**s. Not Johns' finest character work.

The team should be based in the abandoned Howling Commandos Area 13 compound in the New Jersey Pine Barrens and consist of . . .
Bulk & Glow Worm (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/blkglwm.htm) (once based out of a toxic waste dump in Newark)
Jersey Devil (Don Remming, former UCWF wrestler)
The Battler (http://www.marvel.com/universe/Axum) (Daniel Axum)
Humbug (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/humbugsp.htm) (Buck Mitty)

nothing funny about regional sterotypes? there is nothing fun about re hashing another team and using the Initive as an excuse. your team had no originality in the least. if some writer did use your examples no one would take such an obvious lack of imagination seriously. i think the NJ initive should be ala the GLX or Great lakes Avengers...fun and funny but loveable...the funniest part is having a smaller state where no much super crime happens having a super team!!...like Rhode Island or Wyoming...if you cant have fun with those states and you put guys like the Sentry there, its no fun at all!! ..just lame like your idea.

what's fun about New Jersey? and when did i put the Sentry there? my list included a couple characters employed by the CSA and people they might, realistically, recruit. i assure you that it took quite a bit of imagination to get those various unused personalities together. i certainly don't see my lineup being any less imaginative than the Rangers. they basically just threw together a bunch of cowboys, native americans, and latinos.

you still haven't explained why they were misplaced? why wouldn't Norbert Ebersol set up shop in New Jersey (& how would he be different from your 'wise guy' character)? why wouldn't Speed Demon? the characters need a state to operate out of. why not New Jersey? and at least they were characters you could take somewhat seriously; unlike the Pine Barren (what an awful joke).

Never been here, huh? ;)
It's cool... just try not to believe everything you hear on late night TV. Jersey is about 20% urban sprawl and congested roads (mostly NYC spilloff), 80% forest and farmland. Hell, the entire bottom half of the state is one giant forest.
As for the team, they should definitely be based out of the Pine Barrens (as long as the Pineys don't get 'em) and called the Leeds Devils.

Very likely, they'd be in Trenton, and they'd have to battle it out with the NY Avengers over who gets to "handle" Jersey City and Newark.
We could subscribe to more than just "mob" stereotypes to make the team too.
We could have a mall security cop given powers and/or a female teenaged mall rat. I'm a bit vague on the power set here, but it would be entertaining.
We could have a guy from down the shore who draws his powers from eating funnel cakes and hot dogs.
There is of course the toxic waste stereotype (lots of dumps) or if you want one a bit less extreme, someone born in Elizabeth, NJ (the stinkiest place on earth, at least "air-wise") who has the power to resist all chemical agents and/or can produce them from his or her own body.
Speaking of Newark, we could have a Newark school teacher who's gained powers. I mean handling the schools in THAT town already requires heroics.
We could have the living manifestation of the Jersey Devil. Look him up if you don't know about him/it (ah, just noticed that Monty_Cristo already got this one, and probably several of my others too...)

Don't forget New Jersey's massive chemical / pharmecutical industries! A fantastic resource for having origins. I wager that no state has more random vats of chemicals for unfortunate workers to fall into.

Not that i consider myself Dan SLott or anything but here is a quick lesson in humor....when something is OBVIOUSLY a joke...ie NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY ...its ok to be lame. (GLX...Dinah Soar, or Doorman)...you dont want to take them seriously or its becomes lame...NJ dosent need the quasi thunderolts lol
please feel free to think of something else but NJ shouldnt have even a semi serious superteam...the b sides are great....
it would be like having Iron Man in Wyoming....all the small states should be tongue in cheek regional heroes...

...so, 50 lame-ass teams then? boooo! 50 versions of the GLA would get so tired so quickly.
What happened to the thread on the Avengers board a few months ago where we were all trying to pick members for the 50 teams? Some of those teams were pretty good. I think Salems Seven was Massachusetts and the Lousiania Redeemers were pretty nifty (even if I can't recall who was on the team :( ).
If I remember, New Jerseys team was The Mad Thinker, The Fixer, Nightshade, Rhino, Satanna, D-Man, and the Zombie. Not the best of teams, but not the worst, either. But not (completely) a joke.

well excuse me for taking the thread seriously. i knew full well that the majority of posts would be full of stereotypical joke characters. i decided to actually use some of the characters i like that aren't being used/give New Jersey some actual defense. you seem to think that New Jersey is, inherently, a joke. i don't agree. and, yeah, you're not Dan Slott.

there are 50 states so its possible to have a good mix of humor and seriousness in there....lets face facts NJ is a tradtionally mocked and funny state...it dosnt have to be insulting ..the GLA was based in Wisconsin i think and it was humorous and didnt make insult the state!
what states really see superhuman crime?
i am not looking for 50 joke teams but i dont want 50 serious ones either...there is inherent humor in someplaces and it should be taken advantage of...if you cant see that im sorry for you
