In terms of actual feel and such is one better than the other or they about the same?

I played with a lite at store displays but they always have that metal bracket to keep them from being stolen and wire to the display so I cant actually hold it.

My DS is ok but holding it, especially laying down is bit uncomfortable after a little while and using the shoulder buttons while holding other buttons isnt easy for my hands.

Aside from physical design they are exactly the same arent they?

If you've got big hands/long fingers and getting the shoulder buttons is already a problem, the smaller design of the DS Lite is going to exacerbate this as you'll find yourself cramping your hands more due to the small design. At least, that's been my experience.

Having said that, the screen on the DS Lite can be up to 4x brighter than that of the DS. Really, after playing on the DS Lite, I have a hard time figuring out how I ever played without it. You also get a bit more battery life on the Lite and the stylus is a little thicker and more comfortable.

the DS lite is much more portable than the phat since its' smaller. Like Black Atom said, the screen is absolutely better and the battery life is incredible (I recharge it for just 1.5 hours and it gives me seven of gameplay)

if you feel uncomfortable holding the shoulder buttons its never going to get better tho. Not my case although I've got long fingers as well, but I can see some people having problems with it

I have the chunky old DS. It works just fine for me, feels sturdier and more substantial. Which is nice because I have very large hands.

I prefer the DS Lite because it's physically lighter. I find the original DS to be uncomfortably heavy.

I have giant hands (Oh Yeeaaa, ya know what they Say!...AMIRITE!? ....please....)

and DS light works great for me.
