Actually Jason Statham reminds me more of Daredevil when I saw him the first time in Transporter. He has the moves (martial arts), the fast reflexes and the lean bodyframe which fits the Man Without Fear pretty well. Definitely a better choice than the 'softie' (clumsy) looking Ben Affleck.
Another actor who resembles a comicbook hero IMHO would be Clive Owen (in Sin City) as Punisher. Although he is a british actor, his facial features and the way he moves (carries himself) reminds me of Frank Castle. I believe he will be starring in a rather Punisher-like role coming movie Shoot'Em up soon...

Ever since I saw the front cover to Son Of M #1 I thought Dominic Monaghan could do a decent Quicksilver.
Josh Holloway seems more suited to Gambit over Hawkeye.
Topher Grace should have been Parker right from the start.
Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool (though thats a given)
I think one of the problems with these things are the bigger more muscular heroes just don't get the right actors because no one looks like that. Like people were sugesting wrestlers once to play Thor simply because no one else looks like that.

I really don't see this one. From Son of M #1 maybe, but in general i always thought of Pietro as being above average height, slim, and with quite gaunt features. Monaghan is...a hobbit.

When I saw some of the images from Shoot 'Em Up, I immediately thought Punisher, as well.
I'd like to see someone with an on-screen presence, and definitely the physical attributes, to take over the role of Scott Summers/Cyclops when/if the X-Men franchise is rebooted. Nothing against Marster, but he was cast against Famke Janssen, who I didn't think he fit with.
I used to think that no X-Men movie would be possible without Wolverine. My thinking now is that no X-Men movie is worth anything if it doesn't have Wolverine AND Cyclops. So you'd have to find a better Cyclops. My vote goes to Matthew Fox from "Lost"
Holy shit! Mark Wahlberg is 5'7"? Get him as Wolverine!

I just thought of comics in general. The movie looks ridiculous in a good way.
The Punisher seems like an easy character to cast, at least in terms of appearance. You can pick basically any athletic looking actor between 35-55 who can grow a five o' clock shadow.

I know this is in the Marvel forum, but Paul Giamatti could make a great Ventriloquist, and the lead guy from 300 would be a great Black Adam. At first, I thought of The Rock, but ended up deciding that whoever plays Teth would need to have gravitas, ya dig?
As for Marvel: Ben Kingsley as the Vulture. Raimi should have made Bruce Campbell into a thug-type villain who isn't supposed to have much pathos, such as Shocker or Hydro-Man. Michael Wincott could have been a good Mr. Sinister, but he's older now, and I haven't seen a recent picture of him. The cast of SNL as the GLA...that's all I've got for now.
Arnold Schwarzenneger as Thanos.
Mathew Fox as Bruce Banner.

I could dig a Bruce Campbell as Shocker or Boomerang opening up the film with an action scene. Like how Spidey often just fights random bad-guys in USM.
The Rock as Namor, given how Maleev often uses The Rock as his reference when drawing him.

Yeah! That's exactly what I mean. An opening villain fight, or a henchman-type villain who only has a couple lines, mostly smartass dialogue.
The Rock is better as Namor, I agree. Randy Orton looks even more like Mr. MacKenzie, and has the narcissism and ego to match, but he's so bad an actor that he makes Rocky look like Olivier.

It does... Greg Land probably swiped the image to turn it into a picture of Namor during his run on Ultimate Fantastic Four.
And Mike Deodato obviously is using Tommy Lee Jones as his model for his Norman Osbourne in Thunderbolts.
In some cases, the artists have cast the roles already!
That said, and all snarking aside, I hope the rumours are true that Samuel L Jackson is doing a cameo as Nick Fury in the upcoming Iron Man movie! Was it Brian Hitch or Millar who decided to cast SLJ as Fury for The Ultimates?

David Canary - Magneto, Roger Cross - Luke Cage, and Gina Torres - Storm are very fine matches. David Canary looks more like Magneto than does the gentleman who has been playing him in the X-movies. Gina Torres has the lovely almond-shaped eyes and full, succulent lips. She is a very accurate reflection of Ororo's negritude and uncommon beauty.
Lest anyone get excited, negritude = the appreciation of African cultural and is descriptive of the physical appearance and consciousness inherent to an individual. :)

David Canary (from "All My Children" soap opera) has ALWAYS been my choice for Magneto...for years. He is a great actor.
I also love Gina Torres. I got into this huge argument a few years back in a comic shop about her. The person I was arguing with said Gina looked Too Black to play Storm...had too many Black features. I called the guy a stupid fool. I shouldn't have, but any person (and he was Black) saying anything as stupid as that rubbed me the wrong way!!! (I guess the Newark, NJ came out of me.)
Cross is great too. And I like Eamonn Walker after seeing him portray an African in an episode of ER. He nailed that role, and I've been sold about him ever since.

Canary has the voice and the physical presence. After years of portraying a powerful, manipulative millionaire, he has the arrogant confidence of Magneto as well.
I also love Gina Torres. I got into this huge argument a few years back in a comic shop about her. The person I was arguing with said Gina looked Too Black to play Storm...had too many Black features.
Those type of comments regarding Storm are so ignorant they defy description. I'm not surprised nor dismayed that you went "Newark" on that person. Storm is a beautiful, black woman. Facial, physical characteristics are as varied within the black race as they are in other races. Not all eyes are large and almond-shaped. Not all noses are flattened and broad. Not all lips are as full and broad. Gina Torres has a beautiful combination of all three characteristics. I've often thought that Nona Gaye http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/09/Nonagaye.jpg would have made a great Storm. I still think she would, but I really like Gina Torres' beautiful black feminine features.

I remember reading somthing about Daredevil where they got a whole bunch of wrestlers to audition for Kingpin and despite some of them looking the part they all failed because they could'nt act.
Just because someone looks the part does'nt mean they can actually "be" the part. Case in point Jeep Swenson as Bane.

Here's some suggestions-
Punisher 2-
I don't agree with the big dumb Roman soldier from "Rome" being cast as the new Punisher, but I also think Tom Jane just didn't hit the mark. I blame the director solely for that movie being as crap as it was.
Setting it in Tampa, a sunny and tropical looking city, was a HUGE mistake, bring gloss and light to a movie thats supposed to have been dark and gritty story.
Plus, there wasn't a big enough body count, no Punisher-style massacres, nor any of the ruthlessness Frank is infamous for. Nor did I believe that Punisher was this no-holds-barred executioner of criminals, like he's meant to be.
Solution- Get a new lead actor, set it in New York, give it a darker/edgier/nastier tone, raise the stakes a little, make the bad guys BAD and the Punisher even BADDER, and RAISE THE FRIGGIN BODY COUNT!!
And finally- the villains...
Barracuda- Ving Rhames. (Wath a movie called "Animal" and you'll see what I mean. Ving could absolutley NAIL the role of Barracuda!!)
And as a background threat to build on for future movies, bring in the Kingpin (but make him white. Two big black guys as the major villains wouldn't work.)
Thor movie-
I'd make this a cross-between 300 (the use if green screen and CGI would save a fortune on scenery and backgrounds) and the Rings Trilogy (the huge scale of the battles and the element if fantasy).
It would be a trilogy, starting with the origin and developing Thor and Loki's relationship and it's eventual demise, and of Thor's relationship with Lady Sif, Balder and the Warriors Three and of course, Odin.
Bring in all elements of Asgard, such as the Troll Kingdom, the Frost Giants, the Dark Elves and the Fire Demons. Even introduce the Destroyer Armour in maybe the 2nd or 3rd film.
The whole trilogy would be about Ragnarok (as if it would be anything other than that) and if I was in charge of making it, I'd leave out Earth altogether, or maybe only mentioning it at the very end of the third movie for a possible tie-in to an Avengers movie.
A trilogy also provides enough room for all the characters to get a decent showing and would allow for the whole story to be told without losing any of the scale or scope.

I think in the last 10-15yrs I have only seen one guy who could've pulled off a convincing Thor.
Anyone seen 13th Warrior with Antonio Banderas? The viking king is the guy I'm refering to.
Vladimir Kulich is his name ( I think). He might be getting on a bit, but he wouldv'e been perfect.

Ditto - visually totally, character-wise no so sure - don't know whether she can act.
Always figured Angela Bassett would have made a good one:

Wow!!! Yet another fine choice for Storm. I never considered Angela Bassett, but now seeing the head shot, she would have been a gorgeous Ororo. It's sort of ironic in a way. The producers of that movie "Monster's Ball" - which I haven't watched and refuse to watch to this day - originally wanted to cast Angela Bassett in the role eventually played by Halle Berry and for which Berry became the first black American woman ever to win an Oscar. I understand Bassett rejected the part deeming it to be degrading.

Going back aways, Brian Dennehy sooooo should have been ape-Beast, he even had the physique (which is kinda hard).

Also have a strange & silly urge to scream "Scarlett Johanssen for Black Cat", but then Sean William Scott could entertain me for hours as Iron Fist :DI've always thought Scarlett Johanssen would make a fine Black Cat.

Vladimir Kulich is pretty old now. You should check out an episode of Angel called "Apocalypse Nowish". You won't recognize Kulich.

I always screamed to the top of my lungs that Angela Bassett should have been Storm. She's got the awesome amazonian physique(anyone see her in Strange Days? She was CUT!), the commanding voice, and awesome acting ability.
And I don't know why, but I've always thought that Triple H would make a good Thor. He's definitely got the physique and looks, and I think he'd surprise us with his acting ability, since he's one of the more charismatic wrestlers(the Rock's proved that wrestlers do have potential as action actors). And it'd be hilarious to hear Trips say "LOKIIIIIIIIIII!!! Ya think ya can beat the ODINSOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!"

By the time the movie rolled around, she was getting a little long in the tooth.

I forgot about Angela too. I thought she could pull off Storm in the 90's as well.
Also, That pic of Taye Diggs & Angela Bassett of reminds me of this:
