Marvel has created digital comic book archives collecting the first 40+ years of comics in DVD-Rom format. This included Amazing Spider-Man, Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, Avengers, and X-Men.

Does DC have any plans to do the same, or at least have any future plans of marketing their old books in the same said format as Marvel did ?

I've heard no because DC is not sure they own the digital rights to these works.

Obviously until the 90s no one even thought of such a thing so contracts only covered printing rights. These days contracts will usually include a clause about 'this covers all mediums that exist or will ever exist' but that's fairly recent.

I'm not sure how Marvel got around the problem, they may just have ignored it since they're their own company while DC answers to Time-Warner-AOL-Turner.

I wish theyd just go the whole way and make an iComics type store like iTunes and sell older issues in a CBR format for 99 cents or maybe 4.99 for a six issue trade or some similar price point. New issues could be 3 months or so behind newstand or maybe just limit it to older books.

That would be pretty cool. I'd say limit it to 5+ years old, just so you don't undercut the current stores. It could be phased in to cover new issues eventually... but that would be pretty cool.

I still like my paper comics though:)

Wow ! That didn't even cross my mind. I thought contracts would include all mediums in existence and in non-existence.

What a bummer. Only the fans will lose on this.

DC Chief Dan Didio was asked about these DVD-Roms. He said there are no plans for DC versions. He said the ones that have already been released have not sold that well.

Really ? I can't believe that since Marvel's not a company that will toss negative money into something that doesn't sell. As an example their putting Civil War onto DVD-Rom's.... the entire thing.

Didio should be honest that DC's rights are f-cked up for now and they can't do it. Superboy's rights are screwed up currently and they can't do it.

Or perhaps it's because the tech savy people arent gong to shell out money for a bunch of comic scans when there are fan made ones avaliable on the internet.

Good for the tech savy. Inform Marvel they are tossing tons of money away doing this right now.

These sell. Marvel's putting the entire comics library onto Digital platforms. To say they aren't making money is silly since Marvel doesn't have the resources a DC has and won't toss money down a gutter for the hell of it.

Hell yes. That's how I read all my comics and then I buy what I liked. I just ordered Emma Frost and Absolute Hush off Amazon.

Well the fans can't do everything.
There will be always other solutions.
If you ask me .... there are some comic lovers among the tech savy peoples that would like to deal with it anyway and will see it more than a business.
Moreover you can make some nice money out of it anyway.btw it worth to give a visit at stony coral (http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/tags.php?tag=stony+coral), football player (http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/tags.php?tag=football+player)
