Me and my friend were putting together a list of the top 5 greatest dinosaur comics ever for a blog we were doing, so far we've got...

Devil Dinosaur (its Jack Kirby plus a giant red dinosaur - how can you not adore it?)
The War That Time Forgot (WWII combined with Jurassic Park - surely the greatest comicbook concept of all time?)

Does anybody have any other ideas?

The comic that made me a fanboy.

I also liked Turok: Son of Stone.

Hitman #44-46 Fresh Meat.

what about Turok comics? Gold Key original and/or Valiant remake.

I absolutely love those old Star Spangled War Stories covers - my favourite ever is "Dinosaurs vs Tanks! Who will win?".

And I was wondering about Turok, were the Turok comics actually any good? The only ones I ever got my hands on were some rather suspect 90's ones...

some of the valiant ones were good, but many people I've spoken to swear by the Gold Key classics. Haven't read them myself though. Anyone know if there was ever a trade made of Gold Key titles?

Don't forget his Cadallics and Dinosaurs. Or were they one in the same? But definitely the comic , I was thinking of when I saw the tread header.

Nobody.

Thanks so much for the replies everyone!
I can't believe I'd forgotten about Gon...those were my absolute favourite comics when I was a kid.

Can anyone recommend any issues of the Valiant Turok series? (would love to read the Gold Key series but can't imagine I'm likely to find any...)

In no order

1. Xenoxoic Tales
2. Gon
3. Tyrant by Steven Bissette- Probably the best of the dinosaur comics ever!
4. Godzilla- I happen to enjoy the Marvel series

I've read snatches of both. Thought they were both quite solid. The Gold Key Turok was a lot better'n any other dinosaur comic of the Silver Age, War That Time Forgot definitely included.

I've mentioned it before, but Victor Moscoso's Dinosaur Comics are somea my favorites ever. Like, six lines to a panel, but the overall effect is stunning.

I'd probably stick Gon at # 2 and Cadillacs and Dinosaurs third.

After that it gets tricky. :)

GON~! definitely!
And Marvel's Godzilla, great silly fun
Tyrant, yes of course
Age of Reptiles-- did NO ONE else read this? Great!!!
Paleozoic Tales (or, possibly, Tales of the Paleozoic) which started slowly, but by its last issue (giant killer dragonflies!) was truly excellent.

That's a great cover, no question. But I believe L & R only had a dinosuar in the first issue. So I wasn't gonna count it.

Oh yeah. Forgot about that one. Good call.

Oh yeah! I thought of that one today at work. I've got # 3 and need to track down the rest of 'em. Really cool stuff. (Well, the one issue I have.)

I nominate Dinosaur Mansion starring Playboy Playmate Rebecca Ferratti
as the worst.

Man, I love Dinosaurs and I will defend the hell out of Kirby's 70s work.

But Devil Dinosaur didn't do much for me. It didn't have the metaphorical scope of Kirby's other work and, more importantly, it was definitively lacking in dinosaur money shots.
