View Full Version : Devil May Cry 3 or God of War 2?

Devil May Cry 3 recovered from the bad rep the second game gave to the franchise and it was critically praised. Those moves were sweet-looking, too. I was thinking of buying it, but time passed and I didn't.
Then there was God of War, another critically acclaimed action game that stood on its own, even if it didn't interest me at first. Now there's the second GOW game, which apparently is even better than the first, being called the swan song of the PS2. If the worse that can be said about GOW 2 is that is too similar to the first, then what the hell, I haven't even played the first, no criticism from me.
Now here it is: what action game would you recommend me to buy? Can I get the grasp of the story just buying the second God of War game? Or are the two mandatory? These games are pricey and I still need to buy KH II and RE4, you know! I'd like to see some opinions, thanks in advance. :)

Aww man. If anything I would say buy DMC3 only 'cause I haven't tried God of War 2 yet. But I tell ya, part one was awsome. So maybe Gow2 is better?

Having played DMC3 and God of War 2, I'd go with GoW2 without any hesitation.

Buy god of war 1 and devil may cry 3, they both can be found for 20 dollars. Thats less than the total cost of GOW2 at full price. That is me assuming you didnt play god of war 1 that is.
God of wat 2 is good, but not as good as 1. I thought first god of war had alot better story to it and I enjoyed it more. 2 is no slouch but it just didnt have something that the first did. You might be a little lost as 2 takes place not long after 1, so it is a direct continutation more or less.
And when you get devil may cry 3, get the greatest hits special edition. It has stuff in it that the original one didnt and a new playable character.
Devil may cry 3 would be a better choice if you only had to pick from those. Its also a prequel of sorts so you dont have know the other 2 games to appreciate it.

Where you from (not meant sarcastically)? In the US god of war 1 is a greatest hits now so its 19.99 and devil may cry 3 special edition is a greatest hits so its 19.99 also is the retail price.
Course deepdiscountdvd (which Ive used a number of times and love) has them for 18.99 and free shipping.

And link I put above has it for 19
But you can get gow2 for 25 here. I bought games from them before and they ship quick and the stuff looks perfectly brand new as if it came out of a store with just the shrink wrap gone.

But yes, I got the point on your 1st post and on the 137th, its 40 where you are. But you never said what was 40, just kept saying it.
Unless your talking about gow2 which still means can get 2 for 1, and first gow is still better than 2 and has the origin story in it.

As someone who has played god of war 2 and halfway through devil may cry 3, I say save your money and buy both used. shoudn't be much more than 40-50 dollars combined.

Is the storyline of GOW2 very tied to the first one in order to understand it? I just know that Kratos became the God of War by the beginning of the sequel.

You don't need to have played the first one to understand god of war 2 because I played god of war 2 and did not find myself confused.

That's great. Thanks. I would probably end up getting the first one eventually, like I did with the Final Fantasy games. :)
