War, Inc. is the unofficial sequel to John Cusack's previous morally compromised assasin flick Grosse Pointe Blank. Once again, John Cusack has co-written this film, but he and his sister Joan are the only two original players returning in this film in front or behind the camera.

The movie is set in the near future in the fictional country Turaqistan. This time, John Cusack's character goes by the name of Brand Hauser. he has been assigned to killa Middle East oil minister. His identity poses him as a producer of a trade show which includes a wedding between a yonge Central Asian pop star named Yonica, played by Hillary Duff. She is to marry a politico of the country. However, it wouldn't be much of a movie if everything went exactly as planned for Hauser, so naturally things go wrong.

I am a big fan of John Cusack and the movie Grosse Point Blank, so I'm looking forward to this, though, the trailer was a surprise. The landscape of the film is much more grand than the previous film.

One can think it is or isn't a sequel, but by the end of the trailer I was convinced that this was Martin Q. Blank.

It looks interesting enough. His "business" concept is very confusing, though.
And Hilary Duff with a gun? Not too sure that I like that.
The dialogue is good, though.

The only other two characters available to return, IIRC, were Minnie Driver and Jeremy Piven. It wouldn't help the story to have either of them back, methinks, and Joan will likely be seen at the other end of a satillite uplink.

Anyhow, this should be great. A shame Armitage couldn't return as director, though.

Was originally supposed to be titled "Brand Hauser: Stuff Happens."

Is this finally coming out soon? I've been waiting forever! It's a great premise, an important issue, and I hope the movie can live up to it. And be funny!

Continuity shouldn't be an issue. Dan Ackeryod is in this movie as the person who is giving John his running orders.

John Cusack talks War, Inc. (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/war_inc/news/1724597/)

"I just didn't want to go through what I thought was the darkest political period in my life without doing something," Cusack says. "Well, something besides making money off romantic comedies."

"We wanted the move to have, like, a punk rock feel," Cusack explains. "We didn't have any money. There wasn't any real support for it. So, we just got a bunch of people together and did it. We did it for like a third of the budget we had for Grosse Pointe Blank back in the day, and still managed to make it look like a big movie. We figured that no matter what we did, 50 percent of the people that saw it were going to basically think we were insane, but it just felt like the right thing to do."

And really, I can't watch any clips with Dan Aykroyd without thinking he is a life-sized muppet.

I know when my budget is tight, I go for Ben Kinglsey, Hilary Duff, Marisa Tomei, and well, Joan Cusack if I weren't John Cusak...

They coulda cut down on the established actors and added some kickass CGI dinosaurs...

Edit: I know the way it works. Cusack, writer/producer, gets his friends involved which gets production money involved. It just looks funny to see "we had no money, so we had to scrape the bottom of the barrel for this one... Marisa Tomei and Ben Kingsley are in it". Not that Kingsley turns down any roles...

Gross Point Blank if flick I wanted to see way back when it came out, but somehow I've never gotten around to it. I'll definately have to make it a point to rent it now, unless I luck out and it's in the On Demand list.

BTW, Hilary Duff as a raunchy Pop Tart...yeah, I'm sold.

Finally saw the movie today. It could have been much better, it was a bit of a mess. I think the problem was mostly directing/editing, but the script could have been tightened up as well, especially the ending.

It's as much a remake of "Gross Pointe Blank" on a bigger scale as it is an (unofficial) sequel. Some scenes are very familiar, just... not as good. Which is too bad, because "War Inc." has a great premise and I had high hopes for it.

New John Cusack interview. (http://www.joblo.com/interview-john-cusack)

Punk rock as easy listening, Bob Dylan going acoustic, and War, Inc.'s negative reviews.
