The rules are simple: Name a quality you admire, and someone who has that quality. Express your admiration for the person and the quality. Bonus points for naming how you'd like to improve yourself to better embody that quality.

Most admirable trait:

Perseverance. Overcoming.

With that being said, I have to use my brolly to tip my bowler hat off to Sabrinaset, Rev. Smooth, and Pink Bat Max. All three of them have overcome so much, sexual assault, childhood abuse, tragic losses and identity issues to become the wonderful people they are today. They make wonderful additions to YABS and I cannot imagine this board without them.

I have suffered pain in my life, but it is nowhere near the magnamonious levels these individuals have endured. The fact that they are alive and kicking, and have gone on to achieve great things is a testament to their spirit. What they have gone through would have killed a lesser man (present company included) But they have gone through these things with Olympian like strength and are worthy of several panegyrics. Me bowler's off ta you lass. :)

Oh, aren't you sweet! :D

I'd like to piggyback on the admiration for the others, and add Gilda to the list. I admire her greatly, for the reasons you mention, and for her fairmindedness, the aura of personal dignity she projects, and her intelligence.

I admire bravery and intelligence.

That's why I admire Gilda, because ... well, she has both.

Also Beetlebum. It took a lot of bravery to come out of the closet like she did. :p

Well, thank you! This must go along with why many of my friends have given me the "Honorary Lesbian" award. ;) I'm straight, but broad-minded.

I don't really think surviving is the same thing as courage, and I'm not really a brave person. I mostly got lucky, meeting the right people at the right time.

Mmm..... I don't think it's the same thing. But I do think it's brave to survive. I know, in my life, there's been times when it would have been a hell of a lot easier to give up. Go under. Sink, and let the proverbial tide take me out to sea. I certainly don't know if this is the case, but I suspect with most 'survivors' there comes that time where it's just easier to give up.

The fact that you're here shows that you didn't give up. You, and the others named. And that deserves to be honored. It deserves respect.

And let me add respect to Sally Sensational.

A teacher who avoids becoming jaded, who continnues to bring patience and enthusiasm to her profession deserves more admiration than I can express. It's humbling, and just wonderful to see.

OK, that makes sense. There were times when giving up would have been easier, and thank you once again.

I have difficulty accepting a compliment. It's something I'm working on.

And let me add respect to Sally Sensational.

Agreed on all points.

Wow someone's bitter.:p Want me to call you a wahmbulance? Would you like a little cheese to go along with that whine?http://www.giveupalready.com/images/smilies/smilies/pointlaugh.gif No but I appreciate Cam's restraint, how funny he is with his UK dry sense of humour. And how little he says while the rest of us prattle on and on, looking boggly eyed like Margaret Thatcher. And his ability to consume more alcohol than any other mere mortal, without collapsing into shock or having his liver give out.

Australians are friendly, loyal and rugged lot. They helped us in Vietnam and saved lives in Eat Timor. And provide us with endless amounts of materialThnx.

Also, Major Comma. I just reread his answer to Gail's question why do you read comics and I felt so bad for him. I used to be one of those mean girls, those gossip girls in high school. I was Veronica Mars, one foot out, one foot in. I will admit I made fun of other kids. I hurt a lot of people with my words. My one biggest regret is I never stuck up for anyone who was being picked on. I'm so sorry. I think Major Comma is a great addition to this website, with an encyclopedic knowledge of comics. And thanks for exposing me to individuals I other wise would not have known.

And Bree, stop insisting I am gay. I AM NOT GAY!!!!! Where in the world would you possibly get that idea?!

People I admire:
MacQuarrie
Paul McEnrey
Adam C.
and Jeffrey W. Kramer for their intelligence. They even befuddle me. And Ninja Kris for not beating the crap out of me for flirting with her girlfriend.

though if she does come after me, I am surrounded by a moat filled with alligators, several sharp implements, and my mommy who is snuggly and warm and perfect to hide behind.....
