I remember when Christopher Walken started out in movies in the 70s, and I also know he appeared on SNL quite a bit. But it seemed to me he was out of films in the 90s. However lately I've seen people referencing him and his movies and I've also seen him on talk shows.

Apparently he is well known for some more recent films than I am unaware of.

Can anyone tell me what recent films he is well known for? I get the impression he has done some mafia type characters.

Or has he been on some cable shows like the Sopranos?

The only 90's Walken flick that springs to mind is Batman Returns.

Other recent stuff I recall is Click, Joe Dirt, The Rundown, The Stepford Wives, and the upcoming Balls of Fury.

Here's his IMDB info btw. (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000686/)

He definitely wasn't out of films in the 90's but he did mostly small supporting roles and memorable cameos, that sort of thing. Probably his most memorable starring role of the decade was as the rogue angel Gabriel in The Prophecy. Of course it's been a while since I saw that movie so I can't honestly tell you if it or his performance were any good, but I sort of remember liking it.

If anyone has missed "Suicide Kings", I will come to your house and eat your stuff if you do not watch it now.

He is in tons of stuff now, but always playing bit parts. Usually as some oddball character that was seemingly created with the pure intent of "being a crazy ass walken character". Like he is in that new balls of fury movie if you watch the trailer.

I went to imdb and counted from 1990 to 1999 and I counted 40 movies he was listed as being in.

I wish I could find audio of kevin pollack doing a impersination of him cause I swear if I didnt know it was kevin Id swear it was walken. He did it on bob and tom show one morning.

When he was younger he was a great actor but now that he is getting older he just seemed to say "F' it! Im not so young anymore so Im just gonna do whatever I want and have fun".

Some random links with impersinations of him just for fun.

King of New York, definitely. Suicide Kings is a winner. And even though he has only a supporting role, I loved him in Poolhall Junkies (among other things). But, that's coming from a poolhall junky.

An actor/comedian once said that he heard that Walken would pretty much appear in any movie as long as he's paid at least 100 grand for his part and his total shooting time doesn't go over 2 weeks or so. I kinda believe that because it would explain Walken turning up in movies that were almost straight to video.

That explains so much. Among my circle, he aquired the name "Christopher Walk On" because he'd be on the video box and credits, but with maybe twenty minutes tops screen time. Of course, his work is so good that we kept panning the stream looking for good performances, like Suicide Kings, taking turns renting each new flick to see if it was any good and reporting back.

I think his worst flick was probably New Rose Hotel.

Yeah, I've read on multiple occasions that Christopher Walker won't turn down a move unless he has other commitments; he views every role as a new learning experience.

I think that's great. I think if you've proven yourself to be a good dependable actor you can do occasional "bad" roles and it won't hurt your career. Walken is more of an "actor" than "movie star" and usually just does supporting roles so being in bad movies doesn't really hurt his career.

It also shows that he actually enjoys his profession. Like Samuel Jackson, he just really enjoys acting so will go with anything that sounds interesting.

Sean Penn has said that scene might be his favorite showcase of 2 actors perfectly playing off one another. This is one of the few opinions I share with Sean Penn.

With his memorable small roles and multiple TV appearances, Walken became a bigger cult figure in the 90s than he did in any other decade.

Christopher Walken is the American Michael Caine. He's never met a paycheck that he didn't like. I figure he makes one decent movie out of four. Luckily for us, that 25% tends to be some pretty good stuff. And sometimes his cameos are brilliant. Like the exterminator in Mouse Hunt. And the ex-POW in Pulp Fiction, where he basically parodied HIMSELF. Brilliant.

Balls of Fury?

Very, very *NOT* so brilliant.

But I bet you he has the same outlook as Caine who was known to have quipped about his turn in the Jaws gristmill: "I have never seen [Jaws: The Revenge], but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific!"

I think the universe might collapse in on itself if Caine, Walken and Hackman ever all appeared in a movie together.

And, unlike a lot of other high-profile actors, he seems to understand that acting is a job, a profession. He gets paid to work and he likes his job.

That would actually be solid onscreen combo with the right story (esp. if you throw in Samuel L.).

And the ex-POW in Pulp Fiction, where he basically parodied HIMSELF. Brilliant.

Paraodying himself is pretty much all he's been doing for the past decade or so.

Very true. He's actually one of the few actors working who is all about his work. 99% of the moviegoing public knows NOTHING about his personal life. That's something that a lot of celebrities can't say.

He's also an amazing SNL host...
