Blink was the last new character I remember liking before I stopped reading X-Men comics. I was glad they used her in the Age of Apocalypse alternate universe, because she was way too interesting to just get killed off in the storyline that introduced her.

Blink is pretty cool. I have to say that when I first started Exiles I didn't think I was going to like her. Instead I saw what a strong character she was and ended up cheering for her the entire time. I even teared when she left the books for a while.

I wonder what kind of character Clarice would have been if she survived in 616.

Yeah, that would be interesting. I always held out hope that we would get her back sometime after her 'apparent' demise. And while I liked her in AoA, I really wanted to know what the regular 616 would have been like if she had been allowed to live.

I see, lol, I overlooked the 616 u added in there. I am curious why she became so popular in jus a few issues. What issues did 616 Blink appear? So this Blink wasnt the warrior we now know, thats interesting.

I love her new costume too. The gold looks great on her, I am excited! Polaris,Scarlet, and Blink all in one issue, this is a must have for me! :tongue:

I think training from Bullseye would be cool, she does throw them afterall.

I was more wondering if there was a distance on how far she could teleport or gate herself/others.

For example: If need be.... Gate foe to sun? Hopefully thats too far.

Oh, u do have a good point there, being that she throws them. I hate Bullseye though, he tried to kill Songbird! :mad: He would most likely try to kill Blink than train her, unless she could convince him that she is working undercover for Norman Osborn! Now that I think of it, dont u think Marrow and Blink resemble each other? During the Weapon X program, they fixed Marrow where she didnt have any bones on her face. She looked alot like Blink, only she is more feral than Blink, and of course more grotesque. I have to wonder why they brought in Marrow in the mid to late 90's. Why didnt they jus resurrect Blink, she became very popular after her death in Gen X and in Age of Apocalypse.

I have a soft spot for the psychos. Bullseye is asinine enough to try to kill her yeah. Was worth contemplating.

Marrow: They wanted someone people could identify with but still hate on. She had a rough life but unlike the AoA Blink she didn't grow stronger for it mentally, well not in the sameway. She became a cold bitch. Blink has more facets. I think they wanted a pseudo villain who they could use as the obsessive outisder.

Poor Angel and Cannonball.

Blink wouldn't have been as beleivable in those roles. That and it's hard to picture someone pink, being evil. Maybe it's just me. Well, thats not true...but it does make it hard to take them seriously.

At least as a hero with a badass streak, I can accpet that she has a soft side, but when pushed...can and will kick ass. I dunno, might be how my mind works.

I like Marrow...kinda. Anyhow, yeah she did look reminiscent of Blink when she was "fixed".

Blink's ancestry comes from the Clan Akkaba, specifically from Frederick Slade who had similar abilities to her. . Her bloodline is that of Apocalypse's, which may or may not contribute to her elfish look.

Well maybe because both characters have NOTHING to do with each others and were never planned that way?
They didn't wanted a replacement for Blink when they brought in Marrow. They actualy never even planned to use Marrow for long. She was a throwaway character who was actualy the upgrade of a former throwaway character.

It's only the fans who noticed that both characters have visual simliarities with each other. Point that out to any Blink writer and they will tell you that they never even thought about this.

If you guys allow me to go a little bit offtopic, here is a quick summary about Marrows creation.

1994, Jeph Loeb created a story in the 15th issue of his Cable series. The story was meant to show that not all Morlocks were killed by Mikahail Rasputin, in the big flood.
For this story he created a bald, pink skinned, Morlock kid named Sarah, who basicly only served to bring Cable a message about where the Morlocks are.
She showed any powers besides having pink skin, but Loeb later said she was supposed to have the power to see good or bad in people.

I should note that giving mutants a unnatural hair or skin color is pretty common in X-men comics in order to give them an exotic touch.

1995, X-men Prime was a one-shot which was meant to show the after effects of Age of Apocalyps. Writer Scott Lobdell, used this story to forshadow the arrival of a new enemy for the X-men.
The agressiv children of the transported away Morlocks, who called themself Gene Nation.
Wasted potential asside, he created a character named Marrow for this purpose. He wanted to make her as obscure as possible by giving her the nasty power to create bone weapons out of her body.
He originally wanted to call her Sheath but the name was dropped because of possible sexual undertones.
While creating her, he got info about that little girl Sarah which Loeb created.
So in order to connect the new Morlocks to the old ones, he made Marrow said little girl, now fully grown up.
Which was the reason Marrow was half bald and had pink skin.

The rest is commonly known among us X-fans, Marrow challenged Storm to a fight, lost, appeared to have died, returned thanks to a second heart (and the obvious healing factor even modern writers sometimes don't know about).

However she was never supposed to survive said fight. It was only because of an editorial frakup they brought her back.

Later the editors thought it would be a good idea to give the X-men some new strange recruits, including a former enemy, so Marrow became part of the X-men. Strangly she managed to be more attractive to write than the other three new members, which was the reason she lasted 2 years longer than the rest and is the only one next to Cecilia Reyes to be still alive.

However here you have it. Marrows pink skin and hair are actualy reminders to that little girl Jeph Loeb created, who was basicly a throwaway character.

It's only coincidence that Blink happend to have a simliar hair and skin color.
Also as far as i know Blink was original purple? Or am i wrong with that one?

Yeah, Winnick balanced him out nicely though, although he was the comedic support of the title he still had his emotional touching moments. All that sorta went out the window with Bedard and forward. I'm kinda over Morph he's tired IMO.

If I should try I would say that our food is, in general, better and that you can go out late at night any day of the week and have a ton of places to go. And also that there is always people on the streets, at any hour.

And that nearly nobody speaks english, lol. And we love noise. When we are alone at home we put the TV on, so to not be alone. And we love children. Even if you are in a posh restaurant, your child can go bonkers and start shouting and breaking stuff, nobody would say anything. And we tend to be headstrong and think that we are always right. If we are not, we just say the things louder, as a substitute. And we love to drink, but it is seen as embarrasing to be or behave as a drunk (that is the easier way to tell us apart from english people.... when we drink, we reain or drink inside)...

In any case, if everything is all in spanish language, that is definitely like Mexico! Everything is spoken and labeled spanish there, so its a good idea to know spanish if u go. Yes, we do have bullfighters, and by the way, we are also whites in Spain, what we are not, is anglo-saxons... If your grandfather said that is because a great part of the States (from New Orleans to the west) belonged once to Spain, and in fact the dolar simbol is a simplified form of the Spanish crest, and many names are also spanish. Therefore there are still people from that area who has spanish ancestry, like you, as there are people in the states with English, Irish or German ancestry.

Spain is different from Mexico because the Mexican culture is a mix of the Spanish culture and the indigenous one. So, while there are things that we have in common, as the bullfighting and obviously the language, there are many things we do not.

And on a different topic... Has been discussed here the Blink look-a-like who appeared in last X-Force? Is that supposed to be 616 Blink?

The Clan Akkaba' is a cult comprised of Apocalypse and his blood descendants ( First appearance X-Men: Apocalypse vs. Dracula #1 )
His blood descendants (as we currently know as of today) are/were Margaret Slade (Blink's great-great-great-grandmother), Hamilton Slade (Blink's great-great-grand uncle );Frederick Slade (Blink's (great-great-grandfather)) Jack Starsmore (Chamber's great-great-grandfather), Blink & Chamber

So technically this make Blink & Chamber related & distant cousins. Which would technically make them both British and Egyptian even throw they are both a few generation removed.

So both Blink & Chamber only have a small amount of Egyptian blood. & Blink could possible only could have small amount of both since nothing is know about her Family other than the Clan Akkaba' as of yet.

To my knowledge Blink's parents nor grandparents nor great grand parents have ever been shown in a comic yet or even talked about.

Apocalypse disbands The Clan Akkaba' after the events of the X-Men: Apocalypse vs. Dracula mini.. But Ozymandias wanted to continue the clan so he had Frederick Slade impregnating a prostitute named Miss Ferguson(Blink's(great-great-grandmother ). Ozymandias realizing an opportunity to get revenge on Apocalypse, secretly plans to reshape the clan in his image for use against his lord eventually. So as of now Apocalypse doesn't know about the new Clan Akkaba' nor that Blink & Chamber are his descendants. Also nor or does Blink.

Re-Birth/The New Clan Akkaba'
The new clan Akkaba assembled recently under Ozymandias and an elderly Fredrick Slade. This new clan has also revealed that Chamber is a member of their bloodline being a descendant of Jack Starsmore. While the Starsmore family never forgot about Apocalypse, Chamber rejected their offer of membership. It is unknown where the clan's loyalties lie and what plans they have up their sleeve. Frederick & Ozymandias were last seen last seen sharing a drink of Apocalypse’s blood, having finally risen to the place of the ‘’’Fittest’. I'm not sure what issue of New Excaliber this was because I read it on wiki.

I've been thinking of late about who Scott Lobdell might have intended Blink’s parents to be, as I imagine many were dissatisfied with her being an ancestor of Apocalypse.

There are some potential candidates, such as:
>Aurora: Jeanne-Marie Beaubier was born in Montreal, Quebec and in UXM 316, the first part of the Phalanx Covenant, Blink’s hometown seems to be placed in Quebec, Canada (Lobdell did write Alpha Flight after all so may have intended a link here);
>Gambit (the energy darts) and Lila Cheney (interstellar teleportation);
>Given her “Blink” powers, was she going to be connected to the M’Kraan Crystal (interesting that her skin was the same colour as Jahf and she had “crystalline” facial tattoos). We never did find out who the race were that lived in the city within the Crystal (at least not back then).

Then there’s the similarity of appearance between Blink and Marrow (the two could perhaps be siblings since both throw darts they draw from their own bodies, one from their mutant energy, the other from bone).

She felt really guilty about her time with Selene and decided to go cross country performing heroic acts after having Selene's taint exorcised by Dr. Strange. She did this for a few months and helped the New Mutants take down the supernatural death metal band. While working with the team didn't really go smoothly because she has been devoid of healthy human interaction for a veeeeeery long time, she felt a connection with them and debt to them for their assistance. As complicated as their life is, she decided to camp out at the Jean Grey School to clear her head for a while and take some down time, but she really didn't know anybody there and after having a taste for adventure for so long, was bored out of her mind. After being pent up for a few weeks, she raids Wolverine's liquor supply, gets sloshy drunk happy, and tracks down the only people she knows to show her appreciation by helping pick them up from their funk. She also does some x and decides that partying is the best way to avoid her posttraumatic stress disorder from her past.

So...Clarice appeared in New Mutants for a few issues...disappears...comes back for one issue...disappears again? Was anything explained after her "happy-go-lucky" episode in NM?

I picked up one of the NM issues that looked like it was dealing with Asgardian gods, and quickly put it down when I didn't see Blink. Was really hoping to get to see her consistently.

Oh, nice!

Been on a "comics hiatus" for a while, and just now getting back into collecting. Still figuring out (for myself) what's good to read, but Blink was a favorite of mine since the Phalanx cross-overs. Nice to see she finally came back in Necrosha and being used (at least a bit!).

Heck yeah! She's making fairly regular appearances in New Mutants and will be a part of their next arc.

Yup, nice to hear. I have to say, though...I was a bit unsettled with her "ZOMG I LOVE LIEF!" attitude the last issue she was in. I'd figure someone who had went through what she has been through would be a bit dark and brooding (like she was in that little mini-series where some X-Men + Dr. Strange tracked her down). Would be nice to see her perspective on things while she was "away".

Of course, I'd want her to eventually lighten up...but to have reasons shown on panel, not "Well, I didn't like the school!" But I suppose if she's not really a "focus" character, then this is what we get.

Still, nice to have her back, and I will be getting any NM (or other) issues she appears in for sure. Although...the costume could use some work. ;)

It's the JGSHL. She was brooding when the NM found her, then she went to the school and when she came back she was behaving as if she was on crack, like any other character from that book.

I like to think that maybe she just forged a bond with the Muties and was able to let her guard down and really enjoy life instead of hanging under the cloud of death as her character has in her 616 history. Redeeming herself for her actions under Selene's influence may also account for the change...or maybe she is on drugs. Hopefully more will be explained soon.

Oh yeah, forgot about that option. As great as the awareness would be, I'm not sure I want to see Clarice labeled the mental health poster child mutant. Although, that's prob still better than drug addict. :P

Since I'm still fairly new to (re)collecting, I'm kind of excited for this relaunch, as I can then make better decisions on what to buy with my budget (but with all the cross-overs...oy!).

New Mutants preview suggests Blink may indeed have a substance use problem. Of course, that is often associated with Bipolar Disorder also. Jury is still out.
