View Full Version : I want to see JSA getting more respect

I have been getting into DC more and more in recent months. But I sure do feel that they can respect some of their characters better (*cough* Nightwing *cough* in JLA *cough* Kyle Rayner *cough* spotlight *cough cough*.
For example, although DC treats its Golden Age heroes quite well, I still feel that the JSA should have a more prominent role. Being teachers is fine and all, but at the end of the day, I still see them as being second fiddle to the JLA. Why? This is not Earth 1. Its New Earth, with one continuity, one history. The JSA came first, both in terms of real-life publication and in continuity. I think it is time to give both teams equal status with different functions. I propose the following -
JSA -
Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Aquaman
Flash (Jay)
GL (Alan)
Hawkman
Green Arrow
Black canary
and the pantheon of past members now and then
JLA -
Jonn
GL (Hal)
Flash (Wally)
Nightwing
Donna Troy
Tempest
Steel
Red Arrow
Oracle
and the pantheon of past members now and then
Titans
Robin
Supergirl
Wonder Girl
Stargirl
Cyclone
JJ Thunder
Speedy
Let Titans be the training team, get Cyborg or some senior to be mentor. It does not make sense to have a Teen Titans when the best place to get educated in superheroics would be the JSA. I am sure Diana would rather have Cassie hang around the JSA than the Titans.
JSA can take care of the cosmic level threats(Darkseid) while the JLA can take care of Earth based major threats (Lex Luthor). It fits, Superman, Bats , WW and Aquaman were Golden Age characters originally right? It would seem right to have them in the JSA again. And now we can have a chance to let Nightwing and Donna grow in their roles too.
It would never happen, I know. But one can dream.......

So, basically, you want the teams to trade names and a couple of members, and then dump a bunch of characters whom are currently better off doing their own thing on the JLA (formerly known as the JSA).
Yeah, how about No?

The only thing about the original post that I agree with is that the JSA deserves more respect. Not as a team, but as a comic. For years now, Justice Society has benefited from better writing and better artwork, at least in comparison to the Justice League. And yet fans bought heavily into those lackluster JLA issues, including the boring Meltzar run, the humiliating Austen arc, and even the dismal disappointment that was the Claremont/Byrne collaboration on Tenth Circle. I understand that popularity doesn't necessarily coincide with quality, but you would think fans would have noticed sooner that JLA has been sucking.

One thing I have noticed with fans of any medium is that hope springs eternal. In this case JLA.

If you want to go that far back for JLA, you have to remember that JSA had about a year of suckitude as well. Johns was clearly burned out during the end of his last run and then Infinite Crisis and fill-in writers weren't much better...I thought JSA and JLA were both bad prior to JSA's reboot. (And both "Classified" series have had some hilariously bad stories)

True again. Those Calssified stories have been extremely bad.

That's true. The only good issues during the last year of the previous JSA title were actually written by inker Keith Champagne. That OYL story with Gentleman Ghost was a 2-issue story stretched out to about 6 issues.

Looking back at my post, although it does bring back some sort of a glamourous spotlight to the JSA, it would diminish the JLA. ITs almost as though I am asking JLA to call themselves the JSA and the Titans to call themselves the JLA isn't it? The only plus point would be having Nightwing in there. Ah well, I did this in a moment of excitement when the thought of having the big 3 back in the JSA came to me. I like the post crisis DC and only want one Superman, Batman and WW but don't like that the JSA is now considered to be have always been without the big 3. Still like my DC Marvel merger fan dream, I would not mind seeing an elseworld's story like this.
I like the JSA currently. Good storyline and character interaction but honestly, I hardly find them impressive and think they should have more icons.
And really, I am not stupid, I am quite good at my job and all really. I just have this sudden inspirations of weird fan-boy ideas.....really...you are not buying it are you?
I agree that the JSA deserves more respect but those changes are pretty bad.

Why fix what isn't broken?
The current roster is solid and filled with a good mix of the icons and fresh faces continuing familiar legacies.Best team book IMO.
Plus who would have thought JSA would be consistently selling in the top 20?

The crux of your post seems to be turning the JLA into the home for grown up sidekicks too old to be Titans.

even when i agree JSA deserves more respect (is one of the best books out there imo), but both teams have there history and that reflects in there line-up
