So the big thing I learned from the new solicitations, is that apparently, Marvel and DC want to kill off the Annual just as they able to get the format back on it's feet. I think Marvel is more guilty this month, or maybe I just paid more attention to their solicits. I mean, a Moon Knight, Ghost Rider and Initiative annual? Not by the regular team, but by relative newcomers or less popular creators. It looks like the powers that be have forgotten what made those Ultimate Annuals so popular two years ago; special story, tied into the main series, by a top creative team. It just doesn't make sence to me. Any thoughts?

Also note my frustration, another Essential X-men volume, while I still wait for the next Avengers volume. I wonder if they're going to delay future Essential Avengers in favor of Avengers Classic. They've got a long way to catch up though. Another thought occurs, how is Avengers Classic going to handle any crossovers, if it lasts long enough to reach those issues. (Yeah, now I'm just rambling, please indulge me, I'm at work and there's nothing to do.)

I wish Marvel would decide one way or the other how they're going to collect Bru's Cap run. First two in Premier HC then paperback, next three just in paperback, with one having Civil War dress, next one in Premier HC again. Drives me nuts. Guess I have to wait a little longer for that story line (I'm buying in paperback only).

Does the "bookstore" dress with the writers name in big letters sell any better in the actual bookstores than the direct dress would? I never really liked the look of those. (See this month: The triple dip for the first 10 issues of New Avengers.)

Okay, I'm finished...for now.

Yikes! Glad that I've been reading this monthly since it started. That lack of cohesive formats for collected editions would be maddening to me as well.

I noticed that the bookstore dress is now solicited as a "variant" edition. Ugh - just what we need now, multiple covers on TPB, HC, Omnibus editions, etc.

I've only briefly perused the Marvel solicits this morning, but this is the one that jumped out at me:

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN: VENOM PREMIERE HC
Written by BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS
Penciled by MARK BAGLEY
Cover by MARK BAGLEY
Spider-Man’s ultimate villain gets the Ultimate treatment! After reuniting with his childhood friend Eddie Brock, Peter Parker discovers a secret about their fathers' pasts…a black liquid that can transform into a protoplasmic bodysuit, curing any illness and enhancing the wearer’s strength and abilities. But when Peter tries to continue his father’s work, he accidentally becomes encased in the murky liquid and becomes nearly unstoppable…but at a terrible price. Collecting ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #33-39.
168 PGS./Rated A …$19.99
ISBN: 978-0-7851-2873-1
Trim size: standard

Instead of re-releasing story arcs in a different format, how about something for the next oversized HC? I want to see a Vol. 9 solicit to make me feel like I didn't waste all of that money tracking down the first 8 volumes!
