Anyone else looking forward to this game on Tuesday? It looks a lot like Oblivion, which a pretty big order to fill. If it's a fraction as good as Oblivion, I think it'll be at the very least, worth the money.

I was looking forward to it, but it kept getting delayed and now it's too close to Bioshock and Halo 3 for me to care unless it's really, really good

Looking forward to it, though it more resembles Gothic than Oblivion to me.

I don't think you can go wrong with either comparison there.:D

Already paid off, so I'm just waiting for Wednesday. It'll likely take a back seat to Bioshock, however.

I'm getting it tomorrow. I just noticed that the game came out. I was going to ask a friend of mine to reserve it, but then I saw my brother's friends list and someone was already playing it.

I have BIG doubts about this game. I foresee a crapola fest but oh well, we'll see

If this game is like Oblivion (without the gates of course unless they have them here too) then it should at least keep me from boredom. I don't want to play another Oblivion, but since this game has online co-op, I won't complain.

So far, I'm very disappointed. Bad voice acting and dialogue, clunky interface, stale combat, and the damn thing keeps loading and freezing up when I'm out in the middle of nowhere.
Damn it. I wanted this to be good.

Heh, methinks this is going to be one of those 'love it or hate it' games. There's already a war going on in several boards about it.
Myself, I actually found myself sucked in by the basics. Breaking into people's houses to find awesome loot, wandering into areas where the enemies are way too strong and simply trying to survive, etc.
Yeah, the audio isn't Oblivion quality, and definitely could have used a good deal more polishing...but it has a charm all its own, I think.
I think I'm just addicted to the guilds, and collecting the redonkulous amounts of armor sets and unique items.

Whats it like?
From what I read from folks its like everquest with some grand theft auto thrown in.

There's quite a few vids up on youtube and google if you want to see the gameplay. Looks pretty cool.
Has anyone else played this game? I'm on the ropes, and am interested to hear the opinions on this board. Most of what I have read (reader reviews) are exactly what Genma described...love or hate. Maybe this game is suffering from Fable syndrome?

Well, it's interesting. On the Gamefaqs boards, much of the people who initially hated it and were constantly doing nothing but creating 'This game=Teh Suck' topics...are now talking about how it grew on them, and asking others for advice when it comes to quests, etc.
Despite its frame-rate problems, campy voice work, etc, it is quite addicting.
I suppose the only thing you can do is rent. If, after a few hours it hasn't gotten its hooks on you, then I guess it's not for you.

I like it. The interface is clunky and it takes a little bit to get used to, but once I figured out what was going on I really enjoyed it. The mounted combat seems kind of a waste to me though. It's very hard to do anything effective against ground people.

What they really need to work on is the online play. My brother was trying it out and he was "skating" than walking. It was pretty funny.

According to one of the dudes who went to PAX (and immediately headed for the South Peak booth), a pretty large patch is in the works.

So in other words, it sounds like yet again a software manufacturer is letting the consumers pay to beta-test their game.
Guess I'll wait a few months before checking it out. Of course, by then "Mass Effect" will be out, so maybe not....

Well, I was gonna rent it, but my friend decided to rent it instead. I went to his apt. and we played a little.
Man, he hated it. I somewhat can't blame him, cause the voice-acting really was pretty awful, and I'm usually lax on that sort of thing. Anyways, when I left, he was talking about taking it back for something else.
However, like some of you guys are saying, I kept encouraging him (and still am via text messages) to keep it longer and let it grow on him. I honestly didn't think it was that bad. Not the GREATEST graphics and character models, but the overall environment seemed pretty immersive.
Anyways, I may rent it myself, because I saw potential in it. I think too many peeps are just buying into the hype.

One of the only things about this game is that the combat system sucks. You can't block and you do the same combos over again. No sweep attacks or anything like that. I expected this to be like Oblivion. They should've worked on it more. I don't know why this turned out to be a failure. Another is the online play. So far the nearest server is in Germany as far as what my brother's friends told him. So it lags badly. But once that's fixed, everything else is fine. They should've worked on it a bit more. I see this more of an mmorpg at best. At least they make up for it by letting you customized your own weapons and magic. But I don't know when you get to do that.

By far the coolest thing is the fact that you can access the 'console' commands, just like if you were playing it on the computer.
By researching the command codes, folks have actually started creating their own make-shift towns. Populated with NPC's, pet monsters, all kinds of stuff.
At the rate they're improving, who knows what they'll come up with next (well, actually, right now they're figuring out placing houses, decorating them, and working out A.I. for the NPCs). Seeing this done on the 360 is pretty awesome.

Cool. You also get to ride lizards. lol And make up spells too. In Oblivion you can make your own magic. But that takes a while. I mean, a WHILE. You need access to the Arcane University. But if you buy one of the packs in the marketplace, you can get it sooner. You get this tower from a "relative" of yours. With that, you can create your own spells. But you still need around 2,500 gold to buy candles for it.

Ah, you're talking about the Wizard's Tower.
Among other things, I use it as my main library. Cleared out all the redundant books, and started filling it every every new title I got my hands on. Categorized, of course. "The Empire", "Ancient Peoples" (Dwarves and Ayleids), "Daedra", etc.
Only problem is some of the shelves start turning intangible if you put books on them the wrong way. Then the books you've already stacked fall through. Argh! So...much...work.
But it looks neat right now.

I've only been following the Gamefaqs groups investigating it, but here's the biggest thread dealing with it so far.

Can't, my 360 died about 11 last night.
Right as I rented Command and Conquer 3, too.
It'll be weeks before I get it back from Microsoft.

I actually broke down and bought the 360 version used.
Once you get past the utterly painful first ten minutes or so...it's really not bad. The voice acting sucks (as noted elsewhere) but the rest of the game is fairly enjoyable.
It ain't Oblivion, but it ain't crap either. I think some folks were expecting too much from this game. From the early reviews and reactions I was expecting something utterly horrible, but upon playing it was pleasantly surprised to find that it's keeping me entertained so far.

That's crap, man. I feel for you. My first console kicked the bucket a few months back. Like, RIGHT BEFORE they implemented to new warranty....cost me $140. My friend just went through this too a few weeks ago.
Try to get it out ASAP, usually only takes a little more than a week, even though they tell you it will be longer. At least, it did in the case my friend and I.

For a massive performance boost, I'd suggest turning off the individual shadows.
In case you want to try:
1. start a game; press 'start' to pause
2. hold LB and RB and press A. Release all buttons
3. press X to bring up Xbox keyboard (can use USB keyboard?)
4. type command
5. press 'start' button when done typing
6. press A to execute

My cousin brought his copy over a week ago. I'm glad I didn't let my curiousity get the best of me and buy this game, because it's complete crap. The acting, the framerate, the lag, the graphics, the combat, it's all garbage.
"Oblivion on steriods" my ass.
