Just looked through the entire thread. The ones I liked the most, and you'll probably hate me for this, are the older ones, like that watercolor and your high fantasy comic. It might be that I prefer your nature environments to your city ones.
And that 24 hour comic - that's just crazy. I don't think I'd manage that even if I had thumbnails as a guide.
What amazes me the most is your grasp of inking and coloring on top of your pencilling, I wish I was half as good.

WOW. That Medusa 31 drawing is just... Amazing.

Thanks, Pro! I haven´t tried the download process myself but I think it´s very simple.
IKComics is just starting out, but issues #1 and #2 are already available for download.
I finished the whole series ages ago, so it´s just a matter of lettering and converting the pages for the digital medium.
Infiniteens is an 8 part sage with an average of 24-26 pages per chapter.
Hi, DanielSchenstrom! Welcome to my art thread, I´m glad you liked my stuff. I have to say I´m quite confortable around natural environments myself (trees are so much funnier to draw than buildings... ^_^).
That 24 hours comic was just a hint of my insanity (it comes and goes), I doubt I could pull that off again anytime soon. ^_^
With that said, I think everyone should try it at least once, you learn a lot about yourself and your (creative and resistance/sleep deprivation) limits and capabilities.
Thanks, 666MasterOfPuppets. Medusa 31 was a 3´part series I did way back in the 90s and it told the stories of Isabella Coriolis (girl in the pic), an operative for an organization which took out super-junkies. That was the background theme but for me, the real story was in the rivalry between Isabella and Amanda, another operative.
Medusa 31 "Nec Pluribus Impar") (that´s latin for "unlike many" or "the special ones") was published in 96 and won The 1997 BD Amadora Youth Award.
The following chapters, Medusa 31 "Sieged City" and Medusa 31 "All VS All" never made it to print.
Here´s another pic of Ms. Coriolis.

Damn.
Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn.
I´m on a holding pattern.
Waiting for the greenlight to start inking.
That usually means 24 hours of PART-T-A-Y!
Go shopping, play some videogames, yell at my nieces for stealing my art supplies, finish watching Darker Than Black.....
But today I´m on the mood for some doodling!
So....
FEED ME, SEYMOUR!
Give me ideas! I wanna draw a 6-page punchfest, so throw me a bunch of people I can kick through a wall. Only requirements are:
- 50/50 gender split. 3 supermen, three superwomen. (I´d rather have 100% superwomen but some of you seem to prefer men in tights. Oh, well...)
- lots of ethnic diversity (some bitch sent me a racist e-mail about black supermen once, so i wanna draw one)
- you pick the threat, I´ll pick my interpretation of it. ;)
- you pick the location but achtung! Feed me something weird and you better provide some ref pics too (I´m on a time table!).
- someone dies. Describe how (keep it PG13)
I´m gonna go eat now, then finish a couple more Prince of Persia puzzles.
Back in 2-4 hours, so git those brain cells a-cracking,
-Ka-Tak! < whip cracking> :D

Heya, Mordechai, thanks, I got the e-mail and dayum!, that was an awesome script! I had forgotten about your creativity, absolutely loved the team and the character concepts (the codenames in particular ;) )
It was a great read, maybe we should do something together...
However....

Coolness.
You´re a great guy AND a creative one, so I´m sure we could have a blast working on something.
Right now, however, I am just looking for something to draw.
Somethign conventional, preferably, Superman, Captain America, Wonder Woman, it´s not often I draw characters from the big two or three or four, (I prefer to draw my own :p ).

Change of plans:
Sorry, guys, but I´ve decided to not do that 6-pager I had planned.
For those of you familiar with Silversparrow and that crazy "make a comic in 24 hours" Airla story, this is more of the same "make-the-story-up-as-I-go" madness. Let´s hope my Muse takes me to not too horrible places.
Story´s premise is losely based on a story I did way back in 96 called "Arcane Avatar", but that´s where the similarities end.
Okay, enough yappig, buckle up yer seatbelts, cross your fingers and let´s go:

Hi Eliseu
New to this site and just picked up on this thread.
Amazing art and good story telling.
Had you thought of pitching to someone like Zuda. Perhaps you have already done that.
An alternative would be, perhaps, distrubuting your own comics on line. Not sure how you would go about that and get some coin but it's a thought. I am sure that the fans you have here would help get the word out, do a bit of viral marketing for you.
Oh, by the way, I did notice a couple of times where you interpretation of some english sayings were a bit astray. I think it was in Silver Sparrow where you had Jessie say something like "Rub it on her nose". The saying is actually "Rub her nose in it". But then again you may have done that deliberately.

Hello, Garth and welcome to the CBR! :)
Thank you for your post and comments, I´m glad you´ve liked my stuff.
I have heard about Zuda but I haven´t considered them since I´d like to learn more about their plan. I´be been thinking about Wowio if I do decide to take the web publishing route.
I don´t remember using that line in Silversparrow (I´d have to take a looksee, been a while...) but english is not my native language, so I am bound to stumble every once ina while.
When that happens, please feel free to point it out for me, I´ll be most grateful. :)
I hope you stick around and enjoy this colorful little e-community of ours, there´s lots of outstanding folk to meet and amazingly talented writers and artists to discover. :)

I have to say I wouldn't normally read a horror comic but I am enjoying this one. Oh, I do hope you are intending it to be a horror because that is the way it reads to me. :o
Anyway a couple of english corrections. In the panel where Nadra is visualising her high school (college?) buddies/peers: the statement should be "To think I asked her to the prom!"
And in the last panel "... I looked everywhere"

That last page is alot more "japanese" than the rest. The rooftop and slope on the right contributes to that thematically (along with the giant person-monster and the grayscale-ness), and the sort of crouched position of the man.
And don't hurt too many musketeers... I like them folk.
And it's all good. When I start commenting on thematic elements and atmosphere stuff, it means that the drawing is good enough that I don't even notice it. You do make me feel completely lazy, I wanted you to know, but not in a way you should be guilty about.

Your stuff is amazing. It's certainly DC- or Marvel-worthy in any honest person's eyes, I think, and it certainly beats the quality of a number of their artists. It definitely beats mine.
From here on in, if you're looking to get published, I would say that the challenge now is for you to naturally click with the personalities of the people at some publishing company. I expect that that's where you'll get the best work, be the most genuinely appreciated, and feel the most love.
(To round out my critique, however, I don't really care for your lettering style, even though it looks clean. The "font" has too much horizontality to it, and I think the individual letters should be condensed a bit in that dimension.)

Thanks, Armando!
LOL
Yeah, but something tells me Nadra doesn´t really mind. Given the companies she cultivates, I´m sure her concept of "disgusting" is a bit broader than most people´s. ^_^
Hey, Gonzalez, thank you so much for your post and commetns! Really appreciate it.
Honestly, DC and Marel are so far out of my reach they don´t even register in my imaginary. But I do agree that my lettering sucks beyond belief. ^_^

Really glad you´re enjoying this new endeavor of mine, to tell the truth, I don´t really see "Lady of the Horde" as a horror story.
To me, it´s essentialy a tale about friendship.
Now of course some would ray that my report on friendships is a horror story, but that´s another matter entirely... :D
Hey, Froggy, thanks! :)

I'm not positive, but Kara may have been referring to the actual creature in that particular panel as 'the horror.' Anyway, just wanted to drop in to add yet another person who's loving this sequential work. Are you currently/have you recently worked on any published titles?

Every single page feels like it's about to lead to some big reveal, then I'm just as lost on the next page and it feels like the next one is the climax.
Really great storytelling building the suspense. It's hard to get a constant feeling of being chased in a comic the way you can use cameras and literally move them to do the same effect in a film.
In fact, I'm pretty sure you had an influence on the way I did the script contest thingy at the top of the Showcase forum. Which, if you see my comic collection, you've got some pretty competent competition, so that's really one of the highest forms of praise I can give about comic work. "It had an impact on me".

About the cliffhanger thing, I think it´s a habit I got from reading Flash Gordon strips on the newspaper my dad used to bring home.
I can safely say that him arriving at home was usually an Event for the Gouveia kids... and a catastrophe the days he forgot to buy the newspaper ^_^.

Your use of comparisons and recurring images makes for very effective storytelling. The transformation of the Narkissa character from blonde girl to monster and back is really powerful and intriguing thanks to this symmetry. Good stuff.

LewMoxinsghost - I´m not picky with the materials.
Hell, I have whole books drawin in machine type paper.
I work at 11"X17" and I recommend that size (or above), especialy if you like to add lots of tiny details.
Meyvn - Thank you, Meyvn :)
I really like the Narkissa character, so it´s not easy to draw her in monster form. Maybe it´s age or something, but I find myself trying to be kind toward my characters in Lady of the Horde, a weird stance for someone used to treaat characters like napkins. :p

LewMoxinsghost
03-17-2008, 06:45 PM
eh... I wouldn't assume much from people's reaction- just my opinion. These forums are really great, but everything has its limitations. I mean, who is used to commenting on pages they read in print? Nobody. That would be nutty. You can't interact with print really (print is what I'm most accustomed to) you are a captive, mute audience- but naturally still have real reactions to the pages, good or bad. Most people who grew up reading print are conditioned to not say squat about what they feel at the end of a page. To see page creation in real time on the web is a real treat though and having the technical stuff revealed is also a plus. But it is all so tricky I guess... magicians are reluctant to give up their secrets. Are artists any different? Art is magic after all. Personally I always struggle with what I should reveal and what I should not reveal.
Still, it's of course not all just about the forbidden techniques and revelatory working times... the entertainment value has got to be there in some capacity. It's a matter of taste.

Hey, LewMoxinsghost, thanks! I see Lady of the Horde as an actual webcomic, more than assorted sequentials, even though I´m not working from a script and making it up as I go (which explains the "bumpy ride").
Reading them out of order may throw the story a curveball, but if you want to check it in sequence without posts to break the pace, I have it in my Comicspace page (it´s in my sig).
IFf you do check the stry so far, please let me know of any mishaps so I can go back and correct it.
At this stage, I´m more concerned about the story making sense, given the volatile nature of thismethod...

Hey, LewMoxinsghost, thank you for your post, I´m really glad you´re enjoying Lady of the Horde.
I have done this make up as I go thing a couple times online and it can be really fun because you´re drawing what you feel like, without being creatively tied to the constraints of a script.
Only problem is you have to always look back to make sure the pages you draw are consistant with the ones that came before.
Those pages are in this thread, but here´s a couple links to make the reading a bit easier.

Paperback, paperback... well, I am not thinking that far ahead, right now it´s just for fun to vent some creative steam at the end of the day.

I tried to put them all in the 11-14 age range. which IIRC, is somewhat close to her present age (13-16?).
I dunno what´s the deal with DC that they have to have all their teenage heroes bordering 18.
They should take the lead of Marvel who has unmistakenly "kid heroes" like Power Pack to click with the younger readership..

Come to think of it, mine might like it too...although the only character she would recognize out ot the bunch so far is Supergirl.

No idea on the print thing...I imagine it's just a matter of getting it done up at a print shop....no idea on the costs.
Just got both my daughters (got a 2 year old too) hooked on the Powerpuff Girls, mainly because I realized the 4 year old was getting exposed to too many movies/shows with male protagonists. She loves all the Pixar movies, and is a huge fan of Buzz Lightyear (I've lost track of how many Buzz Lightyear toys she has), but she would pretend to be him a lot (Not that it's a bad thing, and kinda of funny to explain to people out in public when she suddenly starts pretending to be Buzz  ). So I've started exposing her to some movies/shows with lead female characters (oddly, I haven't really touched on a bunch of the Disney classics yet).
We just exposed her to Kiki's Delivery Service last week, and she enjoyed that one... I'm keeping an eye out for some Sailor Moon as well to get her hooked on.
So currently, she'll pretend to be either Buzz, Mr Incredible, Bubbles, or Kiki....

Hey, don´t knock Powerpuff Girls, those girls can benchpress aircraft carriers! ^_^
I too have been exposing my nieces to a steady diet of super-heroines for most of their childhood, from Kim Possible to Cardcaptor Sakura to Sailor moon to Chugo Chara..
My biggest failure to date was never being able to sell them Wonder Woman...
Okay, time to get chapter 3 started. :)

HynerianChef - Hey, thanks, I remember that one! God, it´s been AGES! If they didn´t trash it, the original is probably stll in the possession of Editora Abril, I mailed them a couple drawings that eventualy saw publication.
My absolute favorite of that batch was an original Supergirl piece that never saw print, it just got lost in the mail or in some office desk... really broke my heart...

NO GODS. NO QUEENS. ONLY WOMAN. WONDER-WOMAN.

At the beginning of Bioshock, you can read the words "No Gods. No Kings. Only Man."
I like that concept, because it´s exactly what i think of when I think of one of the ways I´d recreate Wonder Woman.
Step 1, I´d get rid of the mythological greek gods.
I always thought that they steal too much protagonism from the ones who should be the real heroes of the story, the Themiscirian amazons. Why would a race of highly advanced, highly evolved immortal women worship a 3,000 years old, dead religion that revolved around adoring a bunch of self-indulging creeps?
By getting rid of them, you can attribute far more merit to the amazons who acchieved the point they are not due to some divine gift, but to the fruit of their labour, their efforts, rsilience and constant thrive to evolve.
They gained immortality on their own, through their own perserverance, science or magic.
It also bears a much more empowering message than the original.
"The gods granted me immortality" VS "I gained mmortality on my own."
Step 2. I´d get rid of the queen.
I don´t like monarchies, the idea that someone is destined to rule over others because some god said so. Democracy is not perfect, but I´d choose being a citizen over being a subdict any day of the year.
My amazons are a meritocracy, a society where you advance on the strenght of your worth, not due to which family you were born in.
Step 3.
Which brings us to the story I had in mind.
The amazons instituted this meritocracy centuries ago, throwing the queen off her pedestal. I imagine there was likely a gruesome civil war (otherwise it would be boring) and queen Hippolyta was believed killed.
Centuries after, today, she resurfaces.
In the patriarch world.
Living with a mortal man who gave her a child, an all-american girl.
With superpowers.
Step 4.
Makiing Diana an all-american girl solves one of the problems I´ve always had with Wonder Woman: her custume. She´s not american, she´s an amazon princess and ambassador representing the proud nation of Themiscira, so why does she wear an american flag? Because she likes america? So does french president Nicholas Sarkozy, but you don´t see him drapping himself in the american flag when addressing the UN, do you?
No, my Diana was brought up by her mom, Queen Hippolyta and some yet-unnamed guy (I thought of calling him Steve Trevor, but that would be just too icky). She learned much of the amazon ways but like any other girl, she salivated at Billy O´malley´s broad shoulders in high school.
This gives us readers an "in". It´s hard to empathise with perfect princess from paradise land, born with a golden spoon in her mouth. But a princess fallen from grace? That´s GOLD!
It has drama, and most important it has the sense of loss that WW´s origin lacks.
A good superhero origin tale has a degree of tragedy to it.
Superman lost his homeworld. Batman lost his parents. Peter Parker could have stopped the man who killed his uncle.
And now, Diana ha lost her crown.
Step 5.
I really like the idea of a fallen princess struggling to regain her place in the world.
Of course she´ll eventualy return to Themiscira and there shall be much @$$tkickery.
She´ll have to face her "sisters" in the arena just like she originaly did under Marston and Perez´pen, but this time she´s not The Special One, with powers given to her by the goddesses.
It´s another Wonder Woman pet peeve of mine.
"All amazons are special but one is more special than others."
The Contest of Champions where she faces the best of the best of the best always felt so fake to me because there is no valor in it.
Sure, an amazons can lift a car in her best day, but WW can benchpress aircraft carriers!
Where´s the fun, the challenge in that?
This way, you can finaly give the Contest of Champions the unsurmountable odds it always lacked, piting a NYPD rookie who moonlights as a superhero against seasoned, immortal amazons warriors with 3,000 years worth of combat under their belts. I salivate at the mere thought.
Step 6.
Now of course I can already hear the DC boys groaning. "-Noooo, we can´t have a race of wimminz as powerful as Superman walking around.
Superman -> smash.
Wimminz -> kitchen."
Chill.
I´m sure one or two or twelve could occasionaly visit earth, but the vast majority of "dem wimminz" would be confined to whatever dimention Themiscira exists in, where I imagine they´d spend eternity fighting off demon creatures bent on invading earth. How´s that sound? ^_^
Step 7.
This also solves the issue of technological advancement.
Themiscira is supposed to be a highly advanced society (unless this is Amazons Attack, where they´re basicaly a bunch of idiots who spent 3,000 years riding horses because inventing flying cars was too much for their little heads) but I could never buy the idea of paradise island as an advanced society. Sorry, but if I spent my days walking at the beach at sunsets, chewing grapes and drooling at half naked women, I would have had zero incentives to develop Purple Ray emmiters.
But fighting demons for all eternity? Now there´s an incentive to evolve. ^_^
Step 8.
Now this advanced society doesn´t have to have excelled only in science. Magic exists in the DCU, so they could just be really good craftswomen. Wonder Woman´s weapons (inherited from her mother when she fled the amazon nation), the golden lasso of truth, the unbreakable bracelets, the razor tiara, would have been forged by them. They would be weapons of war, not cute trinkets to dazzle Superman during late hours.
I dislike the lasso of truth as a weapon. But a whip that can cut through metal like butter?
There´s an endless number of things you could do with this weapon, it doesn´t have to be just a whip. It´s magic, remember?
I confess I may have stretched it a bit with the lasso changing from bracelet to whip, it´s just that I never liked the way that rope hangs on her belt, there´s gotta be better ways to carry your weapon around.
Plus I like the idea of her losing one of her defenses when she summons her primary weapon.
Step 9 . Civil War
"As long as there are two men around, there will be conflict."
Same goes for women. I don´t buy the whole "there would be world peace if women were in charge". My amazons are not a homogenous group, they are divided in factions that cohexist peacefuly. Wonder Woman would be the catalist for the rift. The extremists VS the moderates, the monarchists VS the democratis, the amazons who hate the patriarch world VS the ones who wouldn´t mind paying a visit every now and again. Some of Wonder Woman´s archenemies would in fact be amazons, following her to the patriarch world to kill her and, in the process, becoming supervillains themselves.
Point is, the amazons are a rich, untapped pool of great story material if you give them the protagonism and prominence that Zeus and Hera and Athena and Aphrodite and Hermes have enjoyed so far.
In the end, of course she wouldn´t regain her crown as the Princess of Themiscira. I hate monarchies, remember? No, in my book, they would do what Wonder Woman comics do best, the ole "come together in mutual understanding".with lots of hugs and xoxo.
the amazons would welcome her in Themiscira during summer vacations or 2 weekend per month or whatever terms of custody allowed her to dump mom and crash at aunt Kleio´s place every once in a while to learn how not to get her derrière kicked by Artemis at the arena.

Your Wonder Woman concept would actually work great as a seperate concept. You should really try to put it together and pitch it.

Thanks, guys. :)
NO GODS. NO QUEENS. ONLY WOMAN. WONDER-WOMAN.
This is a concept I cooked up over at YABS following a thread about how posters would recreate Wonder Woman.
(It´s also the reason why there wasn´t new Lady of the Horde pages in the last couple days. ^_^)

I just checked the last pages,i enjoyed your work on the panels. The expressions, the action,it doesnt even need dialogues, and thats how comics should be.
Never though of showing some work to marvel or DC, like i said before i really like your redesigns, you could try to get some contacts in the game industry, for concept art and stuff like that.
Like many said you a really talented artist, you should get your name and work out more, comic conventions, whatever.
Btw,did you made a spike spiegel ? i saw you faye valentine, and one of the pages had a link to spike but aparently its dead,if it was him, could you please kindly reupload it ? i would love to see him in your rendition.

Hehe... I like that line: "Don't hurt them... Too much".
And your version of Wondy is really hot. And hot, because "cool" doesn't make it justice.
