View Full Version : Brave & the Bold #6 (I tell what happens)

When we last left our heroes, Batman was in the future with the Luck Lords, about to die. Supergirl, Green Lantern, and Adam Strange were on Rann in the present, trying to get the Book of Destiny.

Batman is saved at the last minute by a time-travelling zeta/lantern combo beam, dragged back to the present because Destiny said he would know whose actions wouldn't be predicted, allowing them to steal the Book from the bad guy and foiling the Luck Lord's plans to rule the thirtieth century. Guess who is it. The Challengers of the Unknown! That's right, the original four Challs get brought to Rann, they beat up most of the Rannian army, and get the book. Everyone lives happily.

Some thoughts: The ending came a little out of left field for me and everything was tied up really quick. I also wish I knew more about the Luck Lords. However, there were a lot of nice character moments. Brainy and Invisible Kid got some nice lines in the future, and Waid proves that he is still the best Supergirl writer that I've read.

I didn't understand Adam's dialogue in the last two panels, really, and I wish they'd stuck with his costume from the Diggle/Ferry mini.

Anyone else?

Okay, so, pretty much everyone figured it was the Challs last issue, right?

Well, I can definitely say I didn't like how this ended. I don't feel like I can put it into words, but something(s) about this issue just didn't sit well with me.

did anyone notice when supergirl was looking at the book of destiny that there was Captain Marvels cape similar to the death of superman and that the spectre was confronting the flash.

I liked this issue, but I didn't love it. I've heard of the Challengers of the Unknown, but just by name, so their inclusion in this story seemed pretty random. They kicked a lot of ass, which really surprised me, because I guess that I just assumed they were more generic quality investigators of weird phenomena, kind of a Fantastic Four without powers. Instead, it was more like they were more like a squad of supersoldiers.

The coolest idea in the whole issue was having Supergirl use her powers to access the Book of Destiny.

So, is this the final issue in the first story arc, then?

Looks like it. Next issue will star Wonder Woman and Power Girl.

All types of insanity thoughout this issue and all of it worked, Waid and Perez have a hit here with Brave and The Bold and i'm in for the full rid. Plus Supergirl has never been written better, and any comic with Hal helping to save the day gets my thumbs up.

I didn't at first, but at the beginning of this issue, when Supergirl said Batman and Hal should know who the four men who aren't in the Book of Fate are, I put it together. And what a kickass revelation. Getting to see the team pop out of practically nowhere and start kicking the !@#$ outof aliens was at least as awesome as watching Batman single-handedly take out the entire Legion of Super-Heroes last month.

What a great book. Lots of fun. And this first arc was just filled to the brim with awesome. And next month's looking just as good. Wonder Woman and Power Girl? Already sold!

So... where did Ace's giant gun come from?

I loved this issue, but that scene seemed to pop out of nowhere.

I kind of missed it, actually, so this was a big surprise to me - and a welcome one.

Funny thing is, just earlier in the day I was wondering what happened to the Challengers when they went exploring Hypertime after their appearances in Superboy under Kesel and Grummett.

Other than the art i felt this arc was just blah and way over extended. We didn't need 6 issues to tell this story. I'm not too familiar with the challengers. are they regular humans, or metas? I'm gonna more than likely get this in trades since I dont get excited picking this up monthly.

They're just four adventurous guys who kick loads of @$$. They were fun in New Frontier, and the Showcase collection is pretty awesome.

I didn't put it together last issue (should have been more attentive) but when the four of them showed up in #6, I did whisper a triumphant "***k yeah!"

They are four regular humans who, by surviving a plane crash, cheated death and found themselves "living on borrowed time." (Quite literally.) As such, they would no longer be in the Book of Destiny.

They had various Silver Age "weird adventures".

This was a pretty good and exciting conclusion to the first arc. The depiction of all the murdered LSH characters didn't really fit the tone of the book, but I thought that was the only misstep.

Loved the murdered LOSH cause it was just Waid's crappy version. The Challengers of the Unknown need a mini series and more face time in some high profile titles like Superman or the Justice League so people can get reaquainted with them. They inclusion was good though they seems like super soldiers by the way they were beating everyone up. Perhaps as a side effect of them cheating death, they can do the impossible when they need to?

Brave and the Bold was awesome, I'm glad they brought it back and they executed it very well.

You've got to pay more attention. Although Brainiac 5 died in the beginning of the story, with time changed, Brainiac 5's death never happened. Brainy's alive & well in the 31st Century.

Oh I know they are not really dead, but the imagery was still satisfying. Even if it all got undone by the deeds of Batman, Hal Jordan, Adam Strange the Challengers and Supergirl.

Just got it today. Loved it, and the CotU really caught me off guard. When I saw Ace shoot the giant purple handgun, the first thing that popped into my mind was, "HOLY FRACK, G1 MEGATRON'S PART OF THE DCU?!"

So... where did Ace's giant gun come from?

I loved this issue, but that scene seemed to pop out of nowhere.

All of the weird sci-fi weapons in this issue were all used agianst Adam Strange by various and assundry villians throughout the character's history.

Much like the Blackhawk Island episode of Justice League Unlimited.

And what other characters than the Chals exemplify "brave" and "bold"?

I heart this comic book!

In the original story, was the giant gun able to just hover in mid-air like it did here?

I'm another one who was only familiar with the name Challengers of the Unknown, and... that's about it. And they did come off as super-soldiers/metas to me too. So the CotU are kinda like the Fantastic Four crossed with Final Destination without the suck? Huh. Interesting.

Well, B&B has traditionally been a team-up book of one issue meetings and battling; I appreciate that this go-round there was a 'story-line' linking each team-up. I do sorta miss the Batman-plus character of earlier incarnations, but this Batman guy already has a lot of books out and I'm already buying 'Tec & Bat Strikes right now.

I really most enjoyed the Supergirl/Lobo team-up. couldn't imagine it working (figured she'd belt him into the next galaxy inside of three panels' time) but it surely did.

Lords of Luck over-all had their best appearance in issue one; after that, the 'storyline' seemed more rickety frame-work to hold all the team-ups together than a story.

Looking forward to further issues, though, and that's the name of the game, I guess.

So the CotU are kinda like the Fantastic Four
Actually you have that backwards.

The FF are based on the CotU.

I love Perez's art, but the stories so far have left we wanting.. There ok nothing special, and not terrible either.
