Liefeld was replaced by a relative newcomer named Greg Capullo

Augie, you forgot to mention that before Capullo came onboard, we were treated to four issues of Mark Pacella & Dan Panosian doing their very best Rob Liefeld impression. So in that case, for a few issues at least, Marvel was trying to fill the gap with something very similar. And the fact that I remember such utterly trivial knowledge after all these years is really scary. I can't balance my checkbook, but I instantly recall who drew X-Force immediately after Liefeld. Good grief

Good point, Ben. Those were truly horrific issues. But, hey, one could argue that Marat Mychaels spent a few of Rob Liefeld's issues aping Liefeld, as well. . . ;-)

I think that I probably enjoyed X-Force more after Liefeld left the book. The Greg Capullo & Tony Daniel issues were really good, especially the Age of Apocolypse stuff. It was the stuff after Daniel (Adam Pollina?) that turned me off the book for good.

Didn't JM DeMatteis write those issues? They did some sort of road trip or something? The book changed tones dramatically, from what I heard of it. I had given up on it by then, I think.

I think that it was John Francis Moore who wrote the Pollina issues. I was also off the book at that time as well, but remember looking in every now and then.

Thanks - you're right. I'm getting all those three-named fellas confused now.

Pollina did a one shot or two with Scott Lobdell at Image a little later, too. He had a nice art style. I guess he's out of comics now?

Didn't he do something recently? Or am I merely thinking of the B.P.R.D. one-shot that he did a couple of years ago that I re-read recently?

From Wikipedia:

He began to pencil X-Force in 1995 with #44 and continued as regular penciller until #81 in 1998.

In 1996 he drew the four-issue limited series Rise of Apocalypse, again for Marvel.

He has also produced a creator-owned limited series Big Daddy Danger, which was published by DC Comics in 2002. This series is reportedly being developed by Walt Disney Studios as a feature film.

Who knew he was on X-Force for that long?

I knew I saw Pollina was working on something. Apparently it's an Angel mini with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. I always enjoyed his work on X-force, and Capullo's, although to be fair, I started reading X-force after Liefeld had left, so my view may be a little skewed.
