Thought I'd start a thread for those UK'ers planning on going.
So here it is!
The Birmingham International Comics Show is Back!
Following the successful debut of the Birmingham International Comics Show
(BICS) the organisers decided Valentine’s Day was the perfect time to show a little love and spread some happy news regarding the show’s future.
The Birmingham International Comics Show 2007 will take place over the weekend of the 13-14th October at the Thinktank situated at Millennium Point within the city.
“The Custard Factory was popular with many of our visitors,” BICS commented, “But renovations are due to be undertaken for a period of about 18 months, and we didn’t want to keep the fans waiting. In fact we’ve moved the dates forward!”
The Thinktank is an events-driven modern building containing the city’s new science museum, an Imax theatre, and a large bar and eating establishments, among other amenities. “The show will be bigger and more importantly it will be even better.” BICS continued. “We are excited about the challenges the new venue offers, and very pleased about the level of administration and technical support being offered us at this stage. As we did with the Custard Factory we’re going to do for the Thinktank: make it even more popular!”
Celebrations for anniversary events in the comic book world are being prepared, international guests are being finalised, and some great fun ideas being heavily debated to guarantee BICS 2007 a weekend to remember.
Spread a little love yourself on this special day and tell everyone you know!

I'd like to go, but I don't know if I can get there. Has anyone been before? And is it worth going?

Maybe so. Never been to a Con before, and my brother lives in Coventry so would be a good reason to see him as well.

The panels and exhibitors are cool but what really makes it is meeting up with like minded people in the bar afterwards and being able to indulge in unfettered talk about the things you love. Yep well worth it.
If your gonna go we can make sure we all hook up somewhere so no one is left alone come bar time. Last year was great.
The ability to get sketches from artists is great and the opportunity to possibly talk to a creator you like in the bar ( not something you get in American cons) is fantastic

and as one half of the Geek Syndicate podcast let me also draw your attention to this panel on Sunday
2:15pm Iron Casting
The lovable guys from the Geek Syndicate present a live podcast and get all metallic with Adi Granov and Esad Ribic as they discuss Iron Men, Silver Surfers and more.

Seriously though Mutate,
This is the sort of show where you make new friends. We've made it our mission to make our show very friendly and inclusive for newbies.
Just ask people who've been before, and they'll tell you it's a very chilled atmosphere, where everyone is welcome!

The whole thing about British comic conventions is that everything (and I mean everything) is worked around the bar. It's also where you'll meet people & make new friends.

I’ll be going, but I can only make it for one day. :(
Will Mike Carey be signing? And if so witch day? Saturday? Sunday? Or both?
chebbo
08-19-2007, 12:46 PM
Most creators will be doing signings both days, including Mike, although we are still working on the final schedule. due to some creators now wanting to do extra panels.
Once this is finalised it will be added to the main events page at: www.thecomicsshow.co.uk/events.htm

JUST A QUICK UPDATE ON THE SHOW... We can now confirm that there will be 500 goodie bags given away free at the show to the first 500 punters through the doors. These bags will contain goodies to the value of at least £30!!
Not bad considering you get into the show for just £10 eh?

Quick, but very important BICS update:
There has been a fire at the Cotton Club, (thankfully no one was hurt) where we are planning to hold our launch party on the Friday night. We are not yet sure if this means we'll need to change our launch party venue.
If this is the case details of the new venue will be announced on our website as soon as the information is available. We will definately still be going ahead with the launch party whatever happens with the Cotton Club, so please make sure you come along on the Friday night.
If no further announcements are made, this means that everything will be going ahead at the original venue as planned.
all the best,
Chebbo

Most guys are staying in the Burlington (http://www.burlingtonhotel.com/) which is about ten minutes nice stroll from the convention, and is right in the centre of Brum.
Got a nice bar downstairs too.
