Would you think of them as a "frat boy" band?

I wouldn't.

Do people think of them as that?

That's weird.

I always liked their work before the last studio album. The last one really had no songs I enjoyed. The one with I Did It was one I play at times on my drive to work.

I think people might refer to them as a "frat boy band" because Dave Matthews is the most mimicked band among college guys trying to woo chicks and looking like a pussy while doing it.

I always thought they were a yuppie band.

Also, I don't like their music.

No. They're a sorority girl band.

They are absolutely a frat boy band. Them and Jack Johnson are the kings of frat boy music.

I would describe the Dave Matthews Band as "white people music".

I'd describe them as tedious, shallow and over-rated.

I think what hurt Dave Mathews Band was when they 1st landed with "Crash" was that many compared them to a bunch of legendary bands . Which pretty much always sucks because theres no way in hell your ever gonna live up to it.

I do think Dave Mathews , by himself without the band is a pretty decent artist. Hell I bought his solo album Some Devil and its got some good tunes on it.

I would think they're way too sensitive for frat boys. And I can't stand either.

There is a certain type of college boy that is their demographic, but more frisbees and microbrews than straight up .... I'm trying to think of a generalization for frat boys other than the super-offensive one that springs to mind, but am failing.

Popular, generic, and irrelevant.

They're more for the hacky sack crowd than the frat boys

I liked there first couple of albums when they sounded different from what else was out there, with the violin and sax, but it seems like everything from "Everday" forward doesn't have the uniqueness that the earlier stuff did.

DMB strikes me as the type of music a "Sensitive Nineties Man" would have in his CD player in an attempt to show his date just how sensitive and caring he is, right before getting her too drunk to drive home by herself :p

Personally, I classify most of their work as "Music to pick my nose to"... which is how I view most "adult contemporary" acts.

Now we're getting somewhere! This is closer to the heart of it than all the self-congratulatory hating.

How about "Phish with mainstream appeal"? Or, more succinctly, "Phish with appeal"? Some odd blend of jam band pop?

No, they don't really have any jam band tendencies.

You're neglecting the classic frat boy technique of listening to one "sensitive" band to impress girls.

I think the band described themselves when they dumped 800lbs of tour bus shit off a bridge and onto a passing boat in 2004.

Ha!

They're music for people who don't really like music.

My mom, bless her heart, thought that I would like the Dave Matthews Band because Mr. Mattews is from South Africa. Nevermind that I've never been to, have no connection to, and have expressed absolutely zero interest in South Africa. She was sure I'd love them for Mr Matthews' South African roots.
