Here's RITA's.

It's a basic off-topic discussion thread. It is named in honor of one of our favorite posters, Awesome Rita!

Think about it as her bar.

Same rules as the regular board apply, except, well, the off-topic part.

In addition, if you really must know stuff like "what is the biggest shit you've taken?" or "why is it hard for ladies to have an orgasim?," then you can ask that stuff here.

Enjoy!

-Brian

Greetings all!

Today was the pizza party for my girls basketball team, the Shock. As you know we were celebrating our 9-0 championship winning season.

All but one of the girls showed up to feast on the pizza and soda. For whatever reason, Jocelyn didn't show up. I'll have to mail her stuff to her. After powering through 4 large pizzas they all played some video games and then it was time to give out the goodies.

Two of the kids gave everyone a team photo from championship day. I also gave them the team photo we took before our last regular season game. We toasted the season where I told them they made me proud to be their coach and that I hoped to get them back next summer if I didn't get a team in the winter. Then I went to pass out the Shock championship hats. I told the girls that my boys teams had six of these title hats and it was a great thrill for me to present them with the very first Shock hats.

I told Cathryn again that if she made the freshman team in high school that I'd come see her play. Heather's mom told me that Heather had a renewed appreciation for basketball after playing for me. Michaela brought a card that all the girls signed to give to me (along with a Dunkin Donuts gift card, which will come in handy in the mornings before work).

All in all a good time was had by all, the parents were very complimentary to me for the season and the party.

One of my players from last year's team came into the pizza place. She saw that my team was there and the hats. She said, "Your team WON?" I told her yes, we went 9-0 and won the title. She said "No Way!" in a sarcastic manner. She didn't believe me! Oh well, the girls on the team know we won and that's what matters.

I'm really going to miss this team. They were really something special.

Now I'm officially done with the summer league. Thanks for reading and see you in a couple of months.

It will, if you left the citric acid sit on your teeth for days on end. Kind of like the Coke experiments where people will show how bad Coke is by leaving teeth in a glass of Coke for a month and the teeth rot away.

the thing is...I don't know. but for some reason, a new 'kick' a lot of people and dentists have been getting on about lately is how the acid from citrus and stuff, harms and permantly has the effect of removing the enamel from your teeth and stuff.

I see how it could, in the long run, but I think this is just another health fad.

When I was a kid I liked to cut a lemon in two, dip it in the sugar tupperware and suck it. Delicious.

I tried it once with salt too.

I still dip lemon in salt and suck on it. Then I take a shot of half vodka/half frangelico while the lemon juice is in my mouth.

I call it a chocolate cake shot because it tastes like chocolate cake

I met two people from Mexico on my recent travels.

One was a girl at the conference (one of two female students there; math conferences are worse than comic conventions for meeting girls).

Then the man next to me on the plane turned out to be a math professor from Mexico City.

Dear Dayton Police,

Thank you for being there to handle the car accident this morning. However, if you're going to divert all of the freeway traffic through an exit that isn't made to take the load, it might be smarter to have someone at the stoplight to direct traffic rather than have someone standing there with his hands in his pockets in front of a cruiser. This might alleviate some of the congestion.

Dumbasses.

Wait, really? Or are you testing Ed's elitist status?

I just can't wrap my brain around someone reading Rising Stars on purpose.

I understand that sentiment, having read the first TPB. But luckily, my imagination tends to fill in the rough spots in the bad road. I just take the thing as Strayzinsky doing the sketchwork and my mind filling out the good parts. Although I really do *NOT* like where the TPB left off. Suddenly everyone's Superman. Not good.

But what can I say, I'm sincerely curious as to where it goes from here.

And finally, we also watched the Chiefs game. Since when did preseason coverage have the quality of friggin metro sports?

The Bears were the same way, except it was a bunch of scrubs and Ditka.

You probably didn't like Midnight Nation, either.
I did when it came out, but I re-read it recently and it really doesn't work for me. I have a feeling that's because I read it all at once instead of with the big break between issues. Or it might be that it sucked. Either one.

One thing I know for sure. The chick with the unexplained blue lips needs to go a size down on the panties.

Despite this weekend's tragedy, I was able to watch "Big Trouble in Little China" yesterday. Can I keep my manhood membership card?
C'mon...Jack Burton! Of course you can keep your card.

Also, Sarah and I managed to catch "Stardust." We really enjoyed it. Captain Shakespeare alone was worth the ticket price.[....]
Yes, Cap'n Shakespeare was amusing.

Good Morning

It is a beautiful day here, I've just had a 3-day weekend and the last place I want to be is at my desk.

I shudder to think of a world without the internet.

This morning I learned an important measure of time.

This morning I learned just how long it takes a 1 armed man with a weeks worth of groceries to use the self checkout.

Yeah, it takes as long as you think.
Somebody's keeping track of this for Howy, right? Cause this is primo material.

As for Rising Stars, I loved the 0 issue (or was it 1/2?) that was kind of a preview. There were some possibilities there, but Strazinski went with a standard superhero story with stereotypes for characters and horrible art that kills kittens.

I only read it as one big trade and also recently re-read it and I thought it was great.

I have since read Neverwhere, though and MN might not hold up as well, now.

Amen. My wife and I took the kids on a little weekend getaway. Kind of the last hurrah before school starts. Went to a couple kid museums, hung out at the hotel pool, went to see Underdog (yech, but the munchkins liked it). Fun was had by all.

What class are you taking?

One on assessment, one on using brain research in the classroom. They're both independent study/mail in the coursework classes, which I hate to do, but the price is right. I hate the first one, the second one has some interesting stuff, but it's really hard to get enthused without an actual class.

Little known fact: my father was one of the session musicians for the Voltron theme song. Needless to say, I was a big Voltron fan as a lad.

Hopefully, they use the original music for the movie.

I loved how the sidekick(and everyone else, for that matter) was more effective than Jack Burton at pretty much everything. Also, the anti-climactic end to the big bad was hilarious.

Overall, I put the film in the "so bad its good" category.

Sounds good - we were up at my in-laws cottage north of Toronto. Had a lot of fun taking Logan in the lake for swim.

It's interesting how the wikipedia entry on Voltron is at least the same size if not larger than the entry on Thomas Jefferson.

My kids would love to have a pool, especially since Nathan is on the swim team. But to make one big enough to be worth the effort it would take most of my back yard. Besides they spent roughly 2 hours a day in the water this summer anyway. Couple of little fish.

In their defense, Thomas Jefferson isn't the gestalt persona of a bunch of vehicles and/or lions that come together to fight space battles, I guess.

Hey Jared, Daddy Day Camp got a positive review! But first, here are a few new quotes from new negative ones:

"Daddy Day Camp is a perfect family film for the blind and deaf."

"Make no mistake. Daddy Day Camp is no Meatballs or Addams Family Values, Heck, it is not even a Meatballs II."

"Poison ivy might be less irritating."

"A generic time-waster powered by a lazy, cynical combination of scatological kiddie humor and maudlin sentiment."

"Perhaps a productive use for Daddy Day Camp may be found among death row inmates who wish to make their final minutes feel like weeks."

And the one positive review that you wouldn't be able to tell is positive if I hadn't told you:

"Well, what did anyone expect Daddy Day Camp to be?"

At least with Top Cat or Tom and Jerry there is something even slightly subversive going on. This is Alvin and the Chipmunks, all they do is play 33's at 45.
