Apparently, my neighbor thought it was OK to throw a loud party last night at 1 AM. The slamming doors and yelling seemed to suggest otherwise.

He's how old?
Almost 7.
He told us that he doesn't like to be named Marco because, in spanish that's the word for picture and door frames. One time her teacher said "oh, what a nice frame (marco)" and Marco stood up and hugged her in thanks. Classmates laughed at this, so he's going for a name that does not mean common household items.

I'm just imagining it's real hard to take your mum seriously when she's doing the whole name scold.
Mark Anthony Méndez, you go to your room!
But ma, I'm the Emperor of Rome!
You'll still do as you're told!

Should've invited the door slammers and yellers.
My downstairs neighbour at one of my old places used to complain because we had no carpeting. One day (halloween) he comes up to complain, ostensibly because we're being loud. My roomie and I had decided to do drag that year: he was a Pink lady and I was a T-Bird. The guy takes one look at us and the rest of the party. "Never mind," he says. "Enjoy your party. See you later." And leaves.
Best complaint to my face ever.

You didn't cycle off? You went cold-turkey off buproprion? You're lucky you didn't have a seizure. I have issues with ob-gyns prescribing psychotropic substances, particularly if they were the sample packs handed out like candy by the big pharmaceuticals. I hate to sound like a nay-sayer but there are dark days coming in this regard.
I think it will be a bright day when physicians stop prescribing outside their areas of competence. I'm a strong believer that physicians should have specialty certification in order to prescribe various sorts of meds. A lot of unnecessary prescription addiction occurs because of GPs inappropriately prescribing and dosing pain meds, tranquilizers and the like.
I also look forward to when docs of all stripes start getting dinged for not following the AMA/American Psychiatric Association protocols about referring people for therapy along with most psychiatric meds, rather than just prescribing the meds - something that happens way too often.

Hmmm...I'm surprised then that we haven't already seen suits relating to this. Maybe it's right there, bubbling under the threshold mark. It would be a real riot and not in the fun way.
-Das
Well, Vioxx was on the market for five years, until the company voluntarily pulled it. That's when the roof caved in and every class action lawyer in every state in the country started lining up class plaintiffs. It's now a cottage legal industry like phenphen and certain diet drugs.
If that happens for any of the recent SSRIs and/or other anti-depressant/anxiety meds, it's going to be massive and ugly. I've heard about suits involving Prozac, Zoloft, and a few others, but they were generally limited in scope and didn't have widespread implications. Yet.
On a separate note, I'm wondering what happens when the twenty-year studies come back on laser eye surgeries, and what kind of long term impacts they have.

Actually, that's really interesting to me: how are ObG's allowed to prescribe psych drugs?
In the US, with a few exceptions, pretty much any MD or DO can prescribe pretty much any medication. This makes about as much sense as having a podiatrist perform neurosurgery. There is the assumption that an ethical physician will not prescribe outside his/her competency area, but this is often a false assumption. The biggest practical limitation is that many malpractice policies dictate that people prescribe only within specific limits of practice,

My blacksmithing at stuck in 302. I do have nice stacks of Fel Iron, Adamantite and a growing pile of Eternium.
I'm currently making cash on the Thorium Shield Spikes. Essences of Earth plummeted to less than a gold apiece and what, 10 gold for a stack of Thorium?

Exactly why I've never considered getting it.
I'm too chicken to know someone is going to slice open my eye and I'm not supposed to wince or think about it.
If there's a lasering without the slicing I'm all for it otherwise there's no slicing and I'll see about contacts.
And now that I have health insurance I don't have to pay for the glasses or the contacts. Or at least 80% of them.

That's a fair criticism, no doubt. I guess I'm looking at it as sort of a physical manifestation of a rite of passage -- the death of my marriage, the growth of my new life, my embracing of a new inner peace.
If all it boils down to is a miserable attempt to put some symbolism in place, which I'll end up regretting when I get older, well, that's something different entirely. That's why I'm unsure whether I'm not looking at this objectively enough......

Screw law, screw suburbia, screw Starbucks, screw two-hour commutes, screw minivans, and screw needy people who attach themself to you like parasites, and screw corporate taskmasters who would rather consider you part of an actuarial table or statistic bell curve than as a human being. She picked 'laugh.' As a reminder. She sometimes needs it.
It's only visible with very low-cut tops.
Or when she's visiting and comes out of the bathroom post-shower in a towel and stands around chatting until I notice it.
Now I've got a weird feeling that she's actually there and showing you right now. You told me they were coming to visit but you didn't say when!
Which really couldn't be since you said the trains are all full, but I'll put all the meat on the grill for dinner anyway anyway. Starting... now.
It means the right thing to her. Beyond that, people get way too uptight and in other people's business. Especially for some reason regarding anything Asian. Like how to eat sushi.
That's true. I would assume it's a very personal thing, and I certainly wouldn't knock the idea at all. I just hope she double checked. Your brother would have some knowledge in that field, right? Wasn't he in the Far East when he was in the navy?

Who was the least heterosexual member of the original X-Men?

Dear Forefinger,
You can save one (but only one) of the following shows:
*Arrested Development
*Firefly
*The Job (Denis Leary show)
*Prophet
The show is guaranteed to get 5 full seasons. The seasons are also guaranteed to be awesome.
Choose wisely, and of course explain why.
Aresseted Development progressivly got less and less funny as it continued on. I never watched any of the other shows, but I'd be a team player and choose Firefly for my CBR buddies that loved it.

Too bad for Hal that wasn't the super-sexed up version of PG that we have now. Was there even a cleavage hole in that costume?
There was, actually.

Dear Forefinger,
If you could look like any male actor in the history of Hollywood for 48 hours, who would it be and why?
You would be a perfect physical copy of them in their prime, and in their top physical condition (e.g., if you became Will Smith, you'd be Will Smith when he played Ali).

Dear Forefinger,
What's a movie you really dig?
The Big Lebowski. The whole thing is just great. I never realized how many other people dug it as much, or more than I do until I saw that there is a Lebowskifest or something like that in some town every year. Other than that my favorites are always Fight Club, Fistfull of Dollors, and others with kickass quasi-heroes.

No. I haven't seen that. Other than really likeing the movie and watching it countless times, I haven't done any types of crazy fan things like posting to a blog about it....wait...I did name my Ninja henchmen on City of Villians after the characters. Five hours without any posts? WTF?!?
Is it a sign of mid-life crisis that, as age 40 approaches in October, I'm thinking of getting a tattoo....specifically, the Japanese symbols for peace - heiwa -- put on my shoulder?
Someone tell me I'm either crazy or not crazy at this point.Yes, it's a sign of mid-life crisis. That doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. You should, however, resist the urge to put cliches on your person. Come up with something unusual and personal, and then don't explain it to everybody who comments on it.
I don't understand why some people drink Pepsi. It's because we're smarter.

If it were me - I wouldn't do it. Watching the way my body has shifted over the last 15 years makes me glad that I didn't get a tatoo when everyone I knew was getting them circa 1990.
If you are going to do it - make sure you know want to see it there in 10 years, 20 years etc...
Personally, I think you should get a CCA stamp tatoo.
