The Voltron movie had better be about the Lion Voltron and not the vehicle one, or my nerd rage won't be able to be contained.
I smell a sequel!!!

In their defense, Thomas Jefferson isn't the gestalt persona of a bunch of vehicles and/or lions that come together to fight space battles, I guess.
And Voltron didn't own slaves. Fuck Jefferson.

My kids would love to have a pool, especially since Nathan is on the swim team. But to make one big enough to be worth the effort it would take most of my back yard. Besides they spent roughly 2 hours a day in the water this summer anyway. Couple of little fish.
I'm sure I will probably regret it when it comes time to maintaining the damned thing, but in FLA, we'll use it year-round, so it will probably be worth it.
I'd love to get my kids, particularly my daughter, into swimming.

Hey Jared, Daddy Day Camp got a positive review! But first, here are a few new quotes:
And the one positive review that you wouldn't be able to tell is positive if I hadn't told you:
"Well, what did anyone expect Daddy Day Camp to be?"
Ha! That's excellent, Matt!

Morning people. First day working a Monday in ten years, should be interesting.
Attended a play last night, second in my month long Sunday series, Playboy of the Western World. Unusual play, well-performed and stage but an odd study of the entertainment culture of violence. Dinner was quite good; I mad prawns in a ginger-champagne sauce, we had a green salad and a rice medley. Dessert was a masterpiece of chocolate chip shortbread biscuit with mixed berries topped with a chocolate cream sauce. For beverage we had champagne and then a Berington Zinfandel, I was too impressed with the zin (too sweet) but everyone else loved it.
Looking forward to next Sunday and Shakespeare! (finally).

Swimming is great. Lifetime sport...and Nathan was just a little chubby at the start of the summer. Now he's a lean mean swimming machine.
Got him signed up for sixth grade tackle football this weekend. He is too big to be a ball-carrier. He's 5' 4" and 128 pounds. The cut-off for ball-carriers was 120. They don't want the big guys plowing down the little guys.
He was fine with it. He likes playing on the line on both sides of the ball.

He's a pretty big kid. Of course, at that age, I think I was 5'9", but I probably weighed about the same.
At the Museum of Science and Industry this weekend, they have an exhibit that measures your height when you stand in front of a wall. My daughter, who will be 6 in October, is 4'2".
So, I think volleyball is also in order.

Well, who saved the world more times? All Jefferson ever did is bang his slaves and buy some land that, for the last 100 years, people have been trying their hardest to move away from.

Morning, fuckers.
Morna and I just got back from an amazing two week art/wilderness experience in the northwest corner of British Columbia. We went to an art centre perched on the side of a mountain near the town of Atlin. The campus is built on the edge of a pond and overlooks Atlin Lake which is the biggest natural lake in the province and is around 100 km long. We chose to live and work in tent cabins and had a great time drawing, painting and photographing. Actually Morna painted with oil sticks and I drew with soft pencils and graphite sticks. After a few days at the campus getting into a creative groove and having great group critiques we loaded into a boat and went to the south end of lake where we camped for five nights. We continued to do art the whole time.
Besides having a hugely meaningful art trip we also got to experience beautiful scenery and terrain. Highlights include going into an ice cave at the base of a melting avalanche deposit, hiking up to the top of a cliff, sketching a burned forest that is starting to recover, hiking in to a crystal clear mountain lake and being surrounded by snow capped mountains and turquoise glacier-fed water.

We had a fridge war a few weeks ago. Apparently someone ate someone else's food, and the solution was to put a sign on the fridge that said "Thieves will be hanged." Pretty minor, but it's stupid, so I put up one that said "Sign posters will be mocked."

If you can manage to go to the caves of Cacahuamilpa, you won't regret it.There was this one funny moment on our drive to Cuernavaca (I think), where my mother and my stepfather´s brother got into a heated argument (in spanish) concerning the conquistador Hernando Cortez. I could only understand a few words, but it didnt take long for me to get a general idea of the discussion. My stepdad´s brother seemed to be defending Cortez, possibly saying that he helped make Mexico the lovely place it is today or something. And my mother pretty much flamed Cortez basically calling him an evil monster who fucked over the Aztecs and ruined everything and all that. I kind of on my mom´s side concerning that, but then again, I wasnt around during that era.

We did a trip to Mexico when I was in high school. We stayed in Cuernavaca and played tennis every day. We ate dinner out most of the time and one night we ate at this beautiful place that was all outside, where the daughter of the president of Mexico had been married a few nights before. We also took a pretty harrowing ride up the side of a mountain to get to the silver mines in Taxco.
I remember being in one of the silver shops and I was 16 at the time and my sister was 14, the woman in the store took one look at us and said "No Touch Kids". This has since become a joke anytime any of us walks into a store "No Touch kids! No Touch Kids!" we laugh.

Basically, the passive aggressive notes site has me shaking my head at the lack of logical thinking displayed.
Wait. Your apartment building has inadequate electrical service and the landlord won't do squat? Time to call the housing authority and get the building condemned.
People stealing your food from the fridge? Put a lock on it or buy a small fridge of your own and lock that. Or poison the thieves. Personally, I'd opt for the latter. And have, in fact. Certain emetics are undetectable.
Dishes not done? Throw 'em in the trash.

The last time I went to the Pittsburgh Comicon, we stopped at this Denny's the night we got there. Totally empty, just me and three friends, two servers and a cook. We got our coffee, we got our food, we hung around almost an hour, and that was the last we saw the guy until he brought us our check. No refills, no checking to see if we needed anything (we had to scour the nearby tables for ketchup and salt and sugar).
So we paid in exact change, and I left him a note on a napkin with two pennies under a plate that said, "Quit your job."

I will still never forget the drive from Cuernavaca to Taxco, up the side of the mountain on a dirt road, with all of the twists and turns Hollywood wishes they could duplicate, and lanes that barely fit two cars.
We were actually spending our last full day and the night in Mexico City, but of course good, old, Montezuma exacted his revenge on me the morning we were packing the car up to head to Mexico City. I spent the whole day and night in the hotel room puking.

I started off as a Guard on O (I think this was the 7th grade) and End on D.
By the 11th Grade, I was a TE and OLB. You never know where you will end up.
If he stays strong and fast - he could be a great RB.
He's not fast at all. So the line is good for him. He usually plays G or T on offense and end on defense. He might be able to play Inside Linebacker, but he'd never be fast enough to cover a receiver coming out of the backfield.
I usually played TE on offense and Safety on defense. I was a decent blocking end, but not a great receiver. I was a hitting safety, not necessarily a great defender.

So, in the midst of our personal weekend tragedy, Sarah having to wait until this Thursday to get her CPAP mask(Did I mention this earlier? Probably not. Really $%^&ing not cool), I have one glimpse of happiness: the Bioshock Demo is out today, and Wednesday brings Persona 3, which Sarah is now looking forward to as much as me(funny scene: Sarah reads a Game Informer on Sunday and says to me "Jared, you must buy me Persona 3!" Me: "I've had it reserved for weeks, sweetheart.").
With all the bad juju that's gone down over the last week or so, is it wrong for me to now invest so much happiness in video games(especially since I know it's my Aspie focus and could get me into trouble)?
Oh, and if this is indicative of how fragile I am today: I loved the film "Sunshine" and the score as well. Then I found out the score is done by Underworld, one of my favorite bands. So today, I was looking at Amazon and elsewhere to buy it and found out the soundtrack has not been(and never will be, possibly) released. I nearly burst into tears. Selfish and shallow, I know, but I just feel like broken glass of late.
Edit: and in my defense, I've been told that I'm doing a good job of keeping Sarah together and not letting her see how bad I feel.

He may get faster. You never really know.
I was very slow until about age 16, then I developed some speed out of nowhere. I wasn't super fast, but a decent first step and learning how to use angles was pretty important. I started running a bit of track (800 and 4X400 relay) - working with a running coach helped me a good deal, but most of it was just sorting out how to move my limbs more efficiently.
We play 3 downs up here so there's a lot of passing - you've got to learn to play the angles and develop decent field vision or your toast.

So I have this friend who was clearly getting fed up with being single and started in on The Game and some other DVD set.
Apparently there is this new show on VH1 called The Pick Up Artist or something.
I just got this from my friend:
For those not aware of all of this:
Mystery is one of the original pick up artists that sprang up in Orange County CA who mentored Neil Strauss author of the Game. They have all worked with and interacted with David DeAngelo who is the dating guru I am studying now. Mystery is featured in David's in how to approach women and is interviewed in his interview series with gurus. David D readily admits that Mystery is the world's greatest pick up artist.
I don't care if you are in a relationship, married, single, great with women or transforming from an AFC (Average Frusturated Chump) to something resembling a confident guy (what is what I am trying to do) who can meet chicks this show is very beneficial. All of this is real and the transformation you will witness is not acted out.
As you can tell I am pretty excited about this stuff...
I watched a bit of the show and it started out with 3 guys, two tall, handsome ones that just had to walk up and girls were fawning all over them, and one stylish, well kept, confident kid who talked a good game. Watching them work was a group of shorter, nerdy-looking, overweight, pimply faced kids, most of them with really horrible wire frame glasses. Its a comedy of errors, and I can't even imagine what will happen as they each get turned down repeatedly on national television. And this is what my friend is into?
PATHETIC!

It was in New York during MoCCA and a big crowd was there to go eat; Ed, Das, Chris and Jason 1 were all prominent. We were walking to the restaurant when I noticed I hadn't put on any clothes before leaving the hotel, but every time I looked down there was another article of clothing that had made its way onto my body (and I was the only one who noticed).
We got there and ordered food and everyone ate. When we were about to go somewhere else I got a call from my father saying that there was a Level 5 cyclone tearing through Reno and he started sobbing. I left the restaurant and suddenly we were all in someone's house and I was wandering through the rooms trying to get him to tell me what was wrong.
I got back into a room were everyone was talking and then my dad said that some insane homeless woman had broken into my parents' house and killed all our pets. Cut them up really sick. Then I dropped the phone and was about to start screaming when I woke up.
That was damn weird.

Speaking of the fam...
It's definitively established now that the whole rape thing was a lie. Jennifer's moving to Winnemucca, which is a hick town even by hick town standards, to get away from Reno. My father has been accused of my soon-to-be-divorced uncle (mom's side) of having an affair with my aunt. Mom's lost forty pounds and looks great, though I wish she'd stop breaking into my house to stuff my cupboards with food I'm never going to eat.
Dad still complains about everything and spent the recent dinner we had together lecturing the Filipino busboy about how to cook a seafood linguini plate and then insulted our waiter.
Something tells me I need to move far away.

I'm just in a morbid mood, and not just because of earlier stated reasons.
Check this: my boss is gone today because of a death in the family. Now, the person designated to take over for the day has left as well because of a death close to her.
Add to that the passing of a favorite comic artist of mine, and most importantly to me: my pug passing away on Friday(which I am still very torn up over and likely will be for some time), and my head is in a real weird place right now. I feel like I'm having an Aspie moment in front of God or something.

Geez, nervmeister is back already? Was that a 48 hour ban? Time to plug in the Air Wick.
Anywho......
Couple of quick movie reviews:
"300": Meh. Good, but not great. I wish I had rented instead of bought it. Good imagery, a little too much on the stylistic violence, not so much on the underlying Spartan code. This was a popcorn movie, plain and simple, and reading homoeroticism and racism into it was giving it WAY, WAY too much thought. Still, in my mind, incredibly overrated. I might as well have been watching it in a persistent vegetative state. I personally thought Snyder's "Dawn of the Dead" was a much more superior movie, with much more subtlety and nuance (there was no equivalent to a Ving Rhames, Sarah Polley or Jake Weber here), in addition to the visually striking violence present in 300. Rental. Not 2-Day.
"Hot Fuzz": Excellent. Different in tone than "Shaun of the Dead," and probably more striking in its send-up of picturesque villagery in Britain than here in the States, but it worked. Maybe too clever by half, and sometimes overly engrossed in homage over substance, it's still a fun little ride. Smarter than your average flick, and willing to share lots of little laughs with the audience. Rental. Potentially worth buying once it hits cult status in a half decade or so.
"Blake Snake Moan": Flawed, but good. Talk about a bait-and-switch movie poster. This movie basically turned the grindhouse feel on its head, and made a movie that could have been exploitation into a dialectic on the healing power of blues. Executed well, though, but in the end, it's about people with problems becoming people who overcome problems with another "magical" black man leading the way. It's hard not to like though, because the characters lend enough vulnerability to their roles that they never fully fall into stereotypes, even when that'd be the easy way to go. And I never thought I'd ever type this, but Justin Timberlake wasn't awful. Definitely worth a rental.
