My guess is that it got pulled by what's left of Dean. I'm thinking it'll rush back no later than this week.
Campeche is one of those legendary ports that were attacked by pirates way back when. The forts are impressive to this day.
A few years ago, they pulled a Netherlands and reclaimed about half a square mile from the ocean and built hotels and other buildings, so I hope the sea doesnt' take it out on them.
But yeah, going strolling on the ocean floor is damn tempting.
I remember that, 20-22 years ago, one summer night we were at the beach and the sea retreated about 100-200 yards. You could see boats lying on the moist sand for miles around you. We played futbol, tag, sandball wars for hours.
Oooo, neat! I wanna go to the beach. I'm hoping to maybe hit south Florida next summer, but it probably won't happen with finances (Tadhg and I are both going back to school soon) and scheduling around working summer school. I dunno, maybe.
To this day, I don't know what maritime cataclism caused that. I know I'm damn grateful it wasn't a tsunami prelude, like it was in Indonesia.
o_O Very much so.

Don't forget to turn off the circuit breaker.
Maybe I should find that first...
Right now, we just have one of those old dial thermostats.

I must say again that I'm amazed on how fast gold pours in at 70. It took me, since launch, to get to 1,200 gold (I used 900 for Riding skill and the mount). I even spent 100 gold to respec from Armorsmithing to Hammersmithing (geez, I gotta update that at the Sawed-Off board).
Last night I was *this* close to 1,000.

Damn. I need to get keyed for Karazan. I also need to do the Mana Tombs and pretty much every low instance from that level on.

I'll take about any upgrade, but the thing is, the proc on the Don Santos is actually quite frequent, and the +250 AP puts its DPS over the gun you get at Mount Hyjal.

Happy Birfday Mac Danny!
I installed a new thermostat once. It didn't work when I was done. I was never sure whether that was because I'm that incapable or because my grandfather built the house and probably rigged the wiring.
Probably a bit of both.

Virtua Fighter is so deep that you'll never master it. Don't bother.
Soul Caliber 3 and Tekken 5 are better choices for non-insane people and people with girlfriends.
I agree with this statement. My eight-year little girl does pretty well at Soul Caliber 3. So I think Ed could handle it.

Tadhg says the reason we keep blowing lightbulbs is that the fixtures are old and need replacing.
I don't think I'm that adventurous.
However, when we DO replace the bedroom one? With a lighted ceiling fan. So not negotiable. (Fortunately, I -think- he agrees.)

I do NOT however recommend getting a lot of help for the first 8-10 levels. THAT'S where you get the learning curve worked out.

I can't remember where this yesterday, but it's interesting that the settlement between Harlan Ellison and Fantagraphics basically boils down to Cronin splitting up a flamewar and telling everybody to shut up.
“Plaintiff and Defendants agree that henceforth (1) Defendants shall refrain from making ad hominem, personal attacks on the Plaintiff so long as Plaintiff shall live, and (2) Plaintiff shall refrain from making ad hominem, personal attacks on the Defendants so long as Defendant shall live (or be in existence, in the case of a business entity). Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Parties agree and affirm that they shall be free at all times to review, criticize or comment upon one another’s work, writings, advocacy, public statements or other public activities, broadly construed. The Parties further agree that they shall make no further statements or nonverbal communications regarding the settlement of the Lawsuit…”

Yeah, it's damn annoying
waking up to a strange person
in your bedroom
demanding to know where their things are.
And,
take the class to the beach!
The beach is at the edge of campus; I don't think it's practical today, though. I may try to fit a beach day in before the end of summer.
If it helps, I mainly just sit in front and bounce a ball because it amuses me. I also drink Coke.
Every so often somebody raises their hand and asks why they aren't learning math. I distract them by doing something cool with the ball.

Speaking of teaching, I'm concerned about the honesty of kids these days.
Yesterday a student came to my office with her exam she'd gotten back the day before to point out I'd made a mistake grading her test.
She had missed a problem but I hadn't noticed and hadn't marked it wrong. She wanted to make sure I knew. The answer should have been arctan(x) and she wrote tan(x). I glanced over it too quickly I guess.
I'm very concerned.
In my day, we took the answer marked wrong, changed what we had written and showed that to the teacher

I saw it. Two of the things on that list are spoilerish final 10 minute revelation kind of things. One is pure misdirection.
What it seems like to me is a grand Bollywood style 4 hour epic trimmed to an hour and a half for American audiences.
What it *is* is a straight to video style sword epic reminiscent of the 80s. Think of all those Krull wannabes and you're there.
The final scene though? The final "reveal" that was telegraphed back about 30 minutes before and basically PRE-revealed 5 minutes earlier?
A guy stood up on that final reaveal and yelled at the screen "JESUS CHRIST! Beat us over the HEAD with it, why don't you?!?!?!"
And he was right.

You'd think, wouldn't you.
She told Nate last year when the kids were doing a mock trial that his defense theory for John Wilkes Booth wasn't any good. He then explained to her that his Dad, The Defense Attorney and former Prosecutor thought it was the only viable defense. She then changed her mind and decided it just needed "tweaked." She was just the mother of another student at the time.
It's going to be a LONG year.

She wasn't then. She is now. They've moved from the grade school "pull-out" program to the Junior High. So she was just an annoying parent. Now she's the teacher. The worst part is her daughter pulled out of their groups History Day project at the last minute leaving Nathan and another girl having done a ton of work with no payoff.

For true moral relativistic loop-de-loops, check out Courtland Milloy's opinion-piece in the Washington Post.
He basically equates training, having them kill each other in combat and murdering dogs through drowning, hanging and smashing their bones into the ground with eating steak.

Nathan brought home a letter from his Advanced Placement English teacher yesterday (first day of school). As background, she and my wife don't get along and Nathan doesn't like her from past encounters. The class will be in a two hour block and takes the place of separate English and Reading classes.
The letter begins by stating there is one rule for the class. It then goes on to set out three rules. This does not bode well for her ability to write properly.
The one rule is that there is three rules. Four is right out.

I've never seen Aqua-Teen Hunger Force.
Sunset Boulevard I love. Billy Wilder was a chameleon of a director, able to do almost any genre brilliantly. Swanson and Preminger are wonderfully over-the-top.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers is high on my list of favorite movies. I firmly believe that Don Siegel is the most underrated director ever. Siegel could do more on a shoe-string budget than anyone else and Invasion is one of the Great B-films.

Blasphemy!
Actually, I don't think it does well outside the show. I'm partial to the Judy Collins version, but that's because that's how I was introduced to the song. Within the context of the musical, it paints a nice sadly ironic picture of the Desiree/Frederik relationship. It's by no means Sondheim's best, but it does service the characters well. But hey 95% of showtunes don't do well outside of their shows. And on the flip side, the ones that do sometimes don't service their shows well. And nowadays with these commerical megamusicals, that's more often the case than not.
